Shark Tank Pakistan put founder-investor pitches on television with the stated aim of encouraging entrepreneurship and teaching business fundamentals. The available evidence shows that ambition and an investor’s account of real, diligence-dependent commitments; it does not establish that the show revitalized Pakistan’s startup ecosystem. Its promise depends on whether it makes business scrutiny visible to viewers—and whether televised offers become durable investments and businesses.
What Shark Tank Pakistan set out to do
Shark Tank Pakistan describes itself as a Pakistani business reality series produced by Grenlit Studios and the Pakistani franchise of the American Shark Tank. Entrepreneurs present businesses to investors, or “sharks,” who decide whether to invest.
At the August 2024 launch, coverage reported a Green Entertainment and GreenLit Studios agreement and introduced seven investors: Rabeel Warraich, Aleena Nadeem, Junaid Iqbal, Karim Teli, Faisal Aftab, Usman Bashir, and Romanna Dada. That is the launch panel reported at the time, not a guarantee that the same investors appear in every episode or season. FHM Pakistan’s launch coverage quoted Green Entertainment CEO Fasih Ur Rehman: “Shark Tank motivates people to start their own businesses and bring their ideas to life. It also educates about business fundamentals and I hope success stories from this show will inspire a wave of new startups.” This describes the program’s stated ambition, not a measured result.
What the available figures do—and do not—show
The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (OICCI) 2025 Digital Report search excerpt reports an 11-episode inaugural season and more than 90 startup pitches. It also reports a PKR 1.5 billion deal for Saraaf. These are claims attributed to OICCI’s report; the figures and the reported deal’s precise status have not been independently established here. Even if accurate, episode and pitch counts measure the scale of the television format, not its effect on entrepreneurship. The sources available do not provide independent measures of businesses formed or surviving, jobs created, audience size, or the share of announced investments completed. A large headline deal is not by itself evidence that the wider ecosystem has changed.
Do companies actually raise money, or is it just for entertainment?
Investor Junaid Iqbal addressed this distinction in a December 2024 LinkedIn post. He said investors make real commitments from their own funds, while checks shown on air are symbolic. After a commitment, he said, the parties conduct legal, financial, operational, and commercial due diligence before finalizing the investment. Iqbal’s account of the process helps explain why a televised handshake or check should not automatically be described as a completed investment.

That account is an investor’s explanation of the process, not a verified tally of completed deals. The available sources do not establish completion rates or the final status of every offer. Viewers should distinguish a commitment made on camera from funding that has passed diligence and closed.
Does the show teach investors’ business fundamentals?
That depends in part on the quality of the questions and analysis viewers see. In a January 9, 2025 Dawn opinion piece, lawyer Sara Malkani argued that some pitches she watched did not clearly establish business plans, product value, pricing, market size, competitive position, or scalability. She also questioned whether investors applied sufficiently rigorous analysis, discussing examples involving a coffee business and an AI legal-services application. Malkani’s critique is an informed judgment about selected episodes, not a systematic assessment of every pitch in the season.

Her central point is relevant to the show’s educational promise: audiences learn more when a pitch is tested against the business’s economics and risks, not just when a dramatic offer is made. Iqbal’s description adds that an on-air commitment can be followed by further scrutiny. The evidence available does not show whether that later diligence resolved weaknesses that were visible on television, or whether it led to completed, healthy investments.

For viewers assessing the show’s business lessons, or founders learning how to present a company, the most useful test is whether each pitch makes the underlying case understandable and verifiable:

- Economics: What are revenue, costs, margins, and cash needs? For a business with outlets or multiple customer types, what do the economics look like for each?
- Market and growth: How large is the addressable market, and what supports the forecast for reaching it?
- Competition and risk: Who else serves the customer, what differentiates the business, and how vulnerable is it to copying or substitution?
- Valuation and use of funds: What are the proposed investment terms, and how will the business use the capital?
- Outcome: Did an on-air offer survive due diligence and result in a completed investment?
These questions make the difference between a compelling television moment and a useful account of how a business works. They also help viewers interpret offers without treating a deal’s size as a substitute for the company’s fundamentals.
How it fits Pakistan’s broader startup landscape
Shark Tank Pakistan is one television platform, not a proxy for the entire startup ecosystem. Bazaar on ARY describes a separate platform offering mentorship and investment opportunities. Its official website is a source for what Bazaar says it offers, but its promotional description does not establish comparative outcomes: Bazaar on ARY. It should not be conflated with Shark Tank Pakistan.
