What is documented is that the Club’s asset sale to Arise Capital Partners LLC completed in May 2026, after which the EFL said the Club was no longer regarded as in administration.
Did Sheffield Wednesday halve its takeover price for Mike Ashley?
The claim in the headline is unverified. The available sources do not establish an original price, a revised price, who reported the alleged reduction, or a connection between Mike Ashley and that change. The lack of a source in those records does not prove that no earlier bid or price report existed; it means the specific claim cannot be confirmed from them.

The documented completed transaction was different: the administrators agreed a transfer of Club assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC. Neither the EFL nor the joint administrator’s sale-completion announcement identifies Ashley as the buyer. The EFL’s 2 May 2026 statement and BTG’s 5 May 2026 announcement identify Arise as the purchaser.
What happened in the documented sale?
On 2 May 2026, the EFL said the administrators had formally concluded an agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC to transfer the Club’s assets. It also said the Club had met League requirements and was no longer regarded as in administration. The EFL said it would not impose a 15-point deduction following the Club’s exit from administration.

#1 Best Overall
- Inspired by the world's largest soccer matchup, the adidas FIFA World Cup 26 soccer ball pairs design with performance. A seamless TSBE surface enhances touch. The butyl bladder ensures consistent shape retention for every match or practice session.
- TSBE TECHNOLOGY: Seamless surface for better touch and lower water uptake
- KEEPS ITS SHAPE: Butyl bladder for best air retention
- REQUIRES INFLATION: Ships flat, pump not included
- FIFA QUALITY AND OFFICIALLY LICENSED: Officially licensed by FIFA, the ball passed FIFA tests on circumference, weight, rebound and water absorption
On 5 May, joint administrator BTG announced that the sale to Arise had been completed. BTG described the buyer as a consortium led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The announcement quotes joint administrator Kris Wigfield describing the process as challenging and saying the aim had been to protect the Club and secure its future.
Why do Companies House filings not contradict the EFL statement?
The records refer to different things. The EFL’s statement concerns Sheffield Wednesday as a football club and the transfer of its assets. Companies House records filings for Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited, the company associated with the administration process.
Rank #2
- A recreational soccer ball with a resilient butyl bladder for casual games
- SOFT AND DURABLE: Machine-stitched construction ensures a soft touch and high durability
- KEEPS ITS SHAPE: Butyl bladder for best air retention
- REQUIRES INFLATION: Ships flat, pump not included
Companies House lists an administrator’s progress report filed on 2 June 2026 and an extension notice filed on 30 August 2026 for that company. Those filings are relevant to the company’s record, but they do not negate the EFL’s separate statement that the Club was no longer regarded as in administration after the asset transfer. A sale of Club assets and the legal status of the former company should not be treated as interchangeable.
How did the administration affect the Club’s points?
The EFL’s 2025 statements describe two related but distinct point totals:
Rank #3
- Regulation-size soccer ball
- Machine-stitched construction for high durability
- Butyl bladder for best air retention
- Size 5 ball (official size) suggested for ages 12 plus
- Requires inflation
- 12 points: On 24 October 2025, the EFL said Dejphon Chansiri had taken steps to appoint administrators to Sheffield Wednesday Football Club and the company owning Hillsborough. It said the appointments triggered an automatic 12-point deduction under League regulations.
- 18 points: In a statement on 19 December 2025, the EFL said administration, together with separate disciplinary proceedings over breaches in 2024/25, resulted in 18 points of deductions taking effect in the 2025/26 season.
The 15-point deduction mentioned in the 2026 EFL statement was a separate contemplated penalty after the Club’s exit from administration; the EFL said it would not impose it.

The verified record supports a completed asset transfer to Arise Capital Partners LLC and the EFL’s account of the Club’s exit from administration. It does not support stating that Sheffield Wednesday halved a takeover price, naming figures for an alleged reduction, or presenting Ashley as its beneficiary. No verified price comparison is established in the cited statements.
