JetBlue began flying on February 11, 2000, with a first customer flight from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Fort Lauderdale. The airline says it started with 10 destinations; by December 31, 2025, it served 112 across the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America, Canada, and Europe. Those milestones show how much its network expanded, but they do not by themselves explain what caused the growth or how JetBlue performed against competitors.
When was JetBlue founded and when did it start flying?
JetBlue Airways Corporation was incorporated in Delaware in August 1998 and commenced service on February 11, 2000, according to its 2025 Form 10-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Incorporation marks the company’s legal formation; the 2000 date marks the start of its airline service.
JetBlue identifies its first customer flight as a service from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Fort Lauderdale. In a February 11, 2025 anniversary announcement, the airline said that route continued to operate as flight 1 at the time of the announcement. The statement is a snapshot as of that anniversary, not a claim about the flight’s status today. JetBlue’s 25th-anniversary announcement also says the airline began with 10 destinations.
How large had JetBlue’s network become by 2025?
JetBlue reported serving 112 destinations as of December 31, 2025. The company’s 2025 Form 10-K gives the network’s geographic scope as the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America, Canada, and Europe. This is a dated company-reported destination count, not a count of daily flights or passengers.

The contrast between 10 destinations at the start and 112 at year-end 2025 is a useful measure of network expansion over time. It does not establish how quickly the airline grew in each intervening year: the cited milestones do not provide a complete annual series.
What these milestones do—and do not—show about JetBlue’s rise
The dated record establishes the company’s formation, the start of its service, its inaugural route, and the later size and reach of its network. It does not establish a single cause for that expansion. JetBlue’s anniversary announcement presents the company’s history in celebratory terms, while its 2025 Form 10-K supplies the dated corporate and operating figures; neither of these facts alone demonstrates that a particular service feature, executive, or route decision drove growth.

Nor do the figures prove that JetBlue was the fastest-growing airline or outperformed rivals. A defensible comparison would need like-for-like measures for the same period—for example, destinations served, passenger or capacity totals, route concentration, fares, service offering, or profitability. Without comparable figures, the 112-destination count describes JetBlue’s scale, not its rank.

JetBlue’s investor overview describes its network as serving more than 100 destinations and identifies New York, Boston, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Los Angeles, Orlando, and San Juan as leading markets. That current company description is useful for context, while the Form 10-K provides the more precise, dated figure of 112 destinations at December 31, 2025. The two statements use different levels of precision and should not be treated as conflicting counts.
