Simon Jordan and entrepreneur Ryan Howsam considered buying Sheffield Wednesday after examining the club’s finances, but they did not submit a formal offer. A December 3, 2025 report said they walked away over a reported expectation that they pay close to £20 million to former owner Dejphon Chansiri. Jordan said the deal had to be right, and this one was beginning not to be.

Did Simon Jordan make a formal bid for Sheffield Wednesday?

No. The December 3, 2025 account by Sheffield Wednesday News says Jordan and Howsam reviewed the club’s financials while considering a possible purchase, then withdrew without making a formal offer. The close-to-£20 million figure in that report was the amount they reportedly objected to paying Chansiri—not the value of an offer from Jordan’s group.

The report does not disclose a complete proposed purchase price, financing plan, ownership structure or draft terms. With no formal offer submitted, those details should not be treated as settled terms of a bid.

Why did Jordan and Howsam walk away?

The reported sticking point was paying close to £20 million to Chansiri. Jordan’s public explanation, reproduced in the December report, was that the transaction had to be right and was beginning not to be. He also praised Howsam, writing: “Ryan Howsam is one of the best UK entrepreneurs, a fabulous businessman.”

Jordan added: “Football is a very different business, and whilst I have endlessly advocated for #SWFC, a deal has to be right, and this one was beginning to not be.” He later wrote, “That said, I think #SWFC will be fine…” These were Jordan’s comments as reproduced by Sheffield Wednesday News on December 3, 2025; they do not set out a bid price or binding financial terms.

Who was in Jordan’s potential takeover group?

The reported potential purchase involved Jordan and entrepreneur Ryan Howsam. The account says they examined the financials together but does not identify additional members, spell out a consortium structure or describe how a purchase would have been financed.

How Jordan’s discussions differ from other Sheffield Wednesday takeover efforts

Jordan’s interest has sometimes been conflated with separate takeover activity. The episodes involved different people and had different reported statuses:

In its January 15, 2026 report, The National also quoted Jordan describing Wednesday as a possible investment opportunity: “If someone gets hold of [Wednesday] who knows what they are doing, it wouldn’t take much to get them up to the Premier League, then flip it and make some money.” That is Jordan’s opinion as quoted by the outlet, not a verified financial assessment or a forecast.

What is known about Sheffield Wednesday’s ownership status?

The cited accounts record a preferred bidder in January 2026 and a talkSPORT video listing in February describing a takeover collapse. They do not confirm the club’s official ownership or takeover status on October 8, 2026. The later process should not be presented as a completed purchase—or as definitively unresolved beyond what those dated reports establish—without a current official statement.

The National’s January account described Wednesday as having received an 18-point deduction for unpaid bills. That figure belongs to the later takeover context, not to Jordan and Howsam’s reported discussions.
