A federal jury convicted Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud each. The Justice Department said the scheme involved more than $1 million in luxury merchandise and fake wire receipts. Turner was sentenced to five years in federal prison on July 23, 2025; Kingston received 42 months on August 15, 2025.

What were Sean Kingston and his mother found guilty of?

Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Paul Anderson, and Turner were each convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud. The federal jury returned its verdict in March 2025, according to the U.S. Department of Justice’s April 4, 2025 announcement.

The July 2024 indictment had charged each defendant with one conspiracy count and five wire-fraud counts. Those were charges, not findings of guilt: the jury ultimately convicted them on four wire-fraud counts each. The Justice Department’s charging announcement emphasized that indictment allegations are not proof and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

How did prosecutors describe the scheme?

At trial, prosecutors described conduct from April 2023 through March 2024. The Justice Department said Kingston contacted sellers through social media to seek high-end merchandise, negotiated purchases, and invited sellers to homes in Broward County. Prosecutors said he relied on his celebrity status, promises of social-media promotion, and possible referrals to other celebrities to build sellers’ trust.

When payment was due, the Justice Department said Kingston or Turner sent sellers fake wire receipts as purported proof of payment. The government’s account was that no money had been transferred from legitimate accounts. Most victims were not paid, though some received payment after filing lawsuits or involving law enforcement.

The merchandise identified by the Justice Department included a bulletproof Escalade, watches, and a 232-inch LED television. Prosecutors characterized the property involved as worth more than $1 million. These are descriptions of evidence in the criminal case, not findings about ordinary consumer purchases.

What prison sentences did they receive?

Defendant Sentence Sentencing date
Janice Eleanor Turner Five years in federal prison July 23, 2025
Sean Kingston (Kisean Paul Anderson) 42 months in federal prison August 15, 2025

The Justice Department reported both sentences in its sentencing announcement. These are the sentence terms announced by DOJ; they do not, by themselves, establish a person’s current custody status or any later change in the case.

Where can you find court documents?

The Justice Department directs readers to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and PACER for court records. The case number is 24-cr-60126. The DOJ releases summarize the charges, trial outcome, and sentences; the court docket is the place to look for filings and later procedural developments.
