In October 2016, HNA Holding Group Co. Limited agreed to acquire eight Washington golf-course properties associated with Scott Oki for a price contemporaneous reports put at about $137 million. The agreement did not mean Oki Golf immediately stopped running them: Oki Golf Management was to lease and continue managing the properties after closing. HNA’s subsidiary later sold the holding company and a shareholder loan in 2019 for US$86.5 million. That later figure covered a different transaction, and the available records here do not establish who owns the courses today.
What happened in the 2016 deal?
A Hong Kong Exchange announcement dated October 11, 2016, said HNA Holding Group Co. Limited had agreed to acquire eight golf-course properties and related assets from eight Washington limited liability companies associated with Oki. The filing set a planned closing of 5 p.m. Pacific Time on December 31, 2016, or another date agreed by the parties, subject to closing conditions. It establishes an announced agreement, not the date the transaction actually closed. Read the 2016 Hong Kong Exchange announcement.
Which golf courses were included?
The agreement named eight properties, all in Washington State:
- The Golf Club at Newcastle, Newcastle
- Harbour Pointe Golf Club, Mukilteo
- Washington National Golf Club, Auburn
- The Golf Club at Redmond Ridge, Redmond
- The Plateau Club, Sammamish
- Trophy Lake Golf & Casting, Port Orchard
- The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie, Lacey
- Indian Summer Golf & Country Club, Olympia
How much did Scott Oki sell them for?
Contemporaneous coverage reported the 2016 transaction at $137 million or $137.5 million. “About $137 million” is the clearest way to describe the reported price without implying greater precision than those reports support. The figures are secondary-source reporting; the cited announcement identifies the deal and assets but does not, in the material summarized here, verify a precise purchase-price figure. Golf Inc.’s contemporaneous report gave $137.5 million, while Puget Sound Business Journal coverage reported $137 million.

Did Oki Golf keep managing the courses?
Yes, under the announced arrangement, Oki Golf Management LLC—an affiliate of Oki Development and the existing operator and manager—was to lease the properties and continue managing them for five years after closing, with an extension possible by mutual agreement. Golf Inc. reported annual rent of $7.1 million; that figure is its report, not a lease term verified here from the complete contract.
That distinction matters: the property sale changed ownership, but did not call for an immediate handover of day-to-day operations. The 2016 filing describes the planned lease and management arrangement; it does not establish how long Oki Golf ultimately operated each course.

What happened to the properties in 2019?
In a later transaction, HNA International Recreational Property Company Limited agreed to sell the target company holding the golf-course interests and an outstanding shareholder loan to Magic Radiance Limited. CWT International’s November 2019 circular states that the consideration was US$86.5 million and that the disposal completed on November 15, 2019. The target company then ceased to be a CWT subsidiary. Read CWT International’s 2019 circular.
The US$86.5 million is not a second reported sale price for the same package of course properties on directly comparable terms. It was consideration for a target company and a loan. The circular separately reported an independent market valuation of US$101.7 million for the eight U.S. properties as of November 14, 2019; a valuation is not the same as the disposal consideration.

The circular also reported unaudited target-group net losses after tax of US$1,381,445 for 2017 and US$31,135,548 for 2018. Those are results for the target group, not Oki’s personal earnings or the profit he made on the 2016 transaction. CWT’s board cited difficult market conditions, limited improvement in average operating performance, and a need to dispose of non-core assets to increase liquidity.
What is known about Oki’s background?
Golf Inc. reported that Oki was a former Microsoft vice president, founded Oki Golf two years after leaving Microsoft, and bought The Golf Club at Echo Falls in Snohomish in 1994 before adding Washington facilities over the following decade. That account does not establish a precise Microsoft title or Oki’s personal fortune, so the sale price should not be treated as evidence of his net worth.

The cited records establish the 2016 agreement with HNA and the completion of HNA’s subsidiary’s disposal in 2019. They do not establish the present owner of each individual course or its current operator. The later company-level transaction should not be used on its own to claim a specific current ownership arrangement.
