Schneider Electric removed Peter Herweck as chief executive and appointed Olivier Blum, with both decisions taking effect immediately, the company said on November 4, 2024. Its stated reason was “divergences in the execution of the company roadmap at a time of significant opportunities.” The announcement did not identify the specific decisions behind the divergence.
Why did Schneider Electric remove Peter Herweck?
In its regulated announcement dated November 4, 2024, Schneider Electric said its Board decided to remove Herweck as CEO “due to divergences in the execution of the company roadmap at a time of significant opportunities.” The phrase “strategic differences” is a shorthand for that explanation, not a more detailed account of a particular dispute.
The company did not specify which roadmap decisions were at issue. Its announcement also does not establish whether Herweck’s departure was negotiated or contested, or what was said during Board discussions. Claims about a specific disagreement over acquisitions, restructuring, financial targets or personnel would go beyond what the company disclosed.
Who replaced Herweck, and what was Blum’s role?
The Board unanimously appointed Olivier Blum CEO, effective immediately, according to the same announcement. Schneider Electric described Blum as the leader of its Energy Management business and said he had served on its Executive Committee since 2014. His previous roles included Group Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer, country president of Greater India, and strategy and business leadership in China.

The company said its Governance, Nominations & Sustainability Committee conducted a comprehensive succession process and considered several internal and external candidates. Chairman Jean-Pascal Tricoire and Vice Chairman and Lead Independent Director Fred Kindle praised Blum’s experience and record; those are assessments attributed to company leaders, not independent evaluations.
