Everett’s 737 MAX line began production in July 2026, so Renton is no longer the only 737 production site. Here, “Seattle” means the Puget Sound region—not the city of Seattle itself.
Where are Boeing planes built?
| Location | Boeing aircraft programs | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Renton, Washington | 737 | Boeing identifies Renton as the long-standing home of the 737 program. It remains a production site, but is no longer the only one. |
| Everett, Washington | 737 MAX, 767 and 777; historically associated with the 747 | The Everett North Line began 737 MAX production in 2026. Boeing says all 777 family models are built in Everett. Boeing’s current careers page lists the 747 there, but the 2026 production account describes Everett as its original home and does not establish current 747 production. |
| North Charleston, South Carolina | 787 Dreamliner | Boeing identifies South Carolina as a location for 787 final assembly and manufacturing. |
The location associations come from Boeing’s manufacturing careers page, its U.S. locations page, and program-specific information about the 777.
Which Boeing planes are built in Seattle?
For this comparison, the Seattle-area sites are Renton and Everett, two separate Washington cities. Renton is associated with the 737 program. Everett is associated with the 767 and 777 and, since 2026, a new 737 MAX production line. Boeing says the 737 program moved to Renton in 1970.
Renton: the long-standing 737 site
Renton has been the 737 program’s home for more than five decades. That description remains accurate, but it should not be read to mean every 737 is built there: Boeing began producing 737 MAX airplanes in Everett in 2026.

Everett: 767s, 777s and a new 737 MAX line
Boeing lists Everett with the 767 and 777, and states that all 777 family models are built there. In July 2026, Everett began production on its first 737 MAX airplane, marking the first 737 production outside Renton in more than five decades, according to Boeing’s July 10, 2026 report.
Boeing’s April 7, 2026 account of the North Line said it was designed to build all 737 MAX models and would initially focus on the 737-8, 737-9 and 737-10. Boeing described the process as replicating Renton’s, including a wing transport tool for moving partially completed wings toward final assembly. These are Boeing’s descriptions of the line and its planned models.

The 747: Everett association, current status unclear
Boeing’s careers page still associates the 747 with Everett, while Boeing’s 2026 account calls Everett the aircraft’s original home. Those sources do not establish whether 747 production is currently active, so it is more precise to describe the 747 as historically associated with Everett rather than state that it is being built there now.
Are Boeing 737s built in Charleston?
No 737 production is identified at Boeing’s South Carolina site. Boeing associates the 737 with Renton and, since the Everett North Line began production in 2026, Everett. North Charleston is associated with the 787 Dreamliner.

Where is the Boeing 787 assembled?
Boeing identifies North Charleston, South Carolina, as its 787 Dreamliner site and describes the state operation as 787 final assembly and manufacturing. Boeing’s U.S. locations page supports that current site association.
A February 2018 Boeing backgrounder also listed 787 manufacturing in Everett, as well as North Charleston. That older reference does not establish current Everett 787 production, and Boeing’s current location information reviewed here emphasizes North Charleston. Accordingly, North Charleston is the location to cite for 787 final assembly; the available current information does not resolve whether any 787 work remains in Everett.

Does a plane come entirely from the city where it is assembled?
No. A program’s association with a factory does not show that every component originates there or that every production step happens at that site. Boeing’s location pages identify broad program and manufacturing associations, and its South Carolina description specifically names 787 final assembly and manufacturing. They do not provide a complete map of suppliers, components, or work performed at every facility.
