By 26 April 2018, a report by AS citing Transfermarkt put the estimate at €80 million. Those two dated figures show a rise in the reported estimate, but they do not establish its full path or prove the transfer caused it.
What the figures show
| Date | Reported figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| 1 July 2017 | €35 million | Transfermarkt’s recorded market value at the time Salah transferred from Roma to Liverpool. Transfermarkt |
| 1 July 2017 | €42 million | The transfer fee recorded by Transfermarkt for the Roma-to-Liverpool move; it is not the same as the market-value estimate. Transfermarkt |
| 26 April 2018 | €80 million | AS reported that Salah’s market value had risen to this amount according to Transfermarkt. AS |
| 3 June 2026 | €22 million | Transfermarkt’s page displays this as a later value last updated on that date. It is a separate snapshot, not a complete trajectory or necessarily a directly comparable historical point. Transfermarkt |
Market value is not the transfer fee
A market-value estimate is not money paid to Salah, nor does it establish what a club would actually pay to sign him. The €42 million figure is the fee Transfermarkt records for the 2017 transfer; the €35 million and €80 million figures are reported market-value estimates. Treating them as interchangeable would confuse an estimate with a transaction.
What can—and cannot—be concluded
The 2017 and 2018 figures support the narrow conclusion that Transfermarkt’s reported estimate increased between those points. They do not provide a continuous year-by-year series, so they cannot show when or how quickly the increase occurred. Nor do the cited figures isolate the effect of Salah joining Liverpool: they establish timing, not causation.
Transfermarkt’s current page also displays a €22 million value updated on 3 June 2026. That later snapshot does not fill in the missing intervening history. Without a dated series and a confirmed basis for comparing each point, it is not sound to infer a smooth rise, decline, or precise overall trajectory from the three figures.
