The SSC Stenographer 2024 application deadline was 17 August 2024 at 11 p.m. The recruitment window and the December 2024 computer-based examination have both passed, so this is a historical update—not a current application opportunity. The original notice estimated about 2,006 vacancies, but SSC’s later final table listed 2,123: 215 Grade C and 1,908 Grade D posts.

What was the SSC Stenographer 2024 last date to apply?

SSC accepted online applications from 26 July through 17 August 2024. The application deadline was 17 August at 11 p.m.; candidates who had already applied could pay the fee online until 18 August at 11 p.m. The correction window ran from 27 to 28 August 2024, closing at 11 p.m. on 28 August. These dates are from the Staff Selection Commission’s 2024 examination notice.

Because the deadline has passed, candidates looking for an open recruitment should check the latest SSC notice rather than rely on the 2024 dates.

How many vacancies were there: 2,006 or 2,123?

Both figures appeared in SSC material, but they describe different stages of the recruitment. The original 26 July 2024 notice gave an approximate estimate; SSC’s later vacancy table, dated as of 27 June 2025, listed the final totals.

Figure What it represents Source and date
Approximately 2,006 Tentative estimate in the original notice SSC notice, 26 July 2024
215 Grade C; 1,908 Grade D; 2,123 combined Later final vacancy table SSC table, dated as of 27 June 2025

The final table does not provide a state-wise or zone-wise breakdown: SSC said it does not collect those details in the original notice. For a possible location-specific breakdown, candidates would need to consult the relevant user department where available. An aggregate vacancy count also does not determine an individual candidate’s chances of selection.

What were the Grade C and Grade D eligibility differences?

The essential educational qualification for both posts was 12th standard or equivalent, assessed as of 17 August 2024. Age was reckoned as of 1 August 2024. The notice identified Grade C as Group B, non-gazetted, and Grade D as Group C.

Post Group Age under the 2024 notice
Stenographer Grade C Group B, non-gazetted 18–30 years
Stenographer Grade D Group C 18–27 years

Category-based age relaxations and the notice’s detailed eligibility conditions applied. The dates and age limits above describe the 2024 recruitment, not a future SSC examination.

When was the 2024 exam, and what was the selection process?

SSC’s schedule notice of 6 September 2024 set the computer-based examination for 10–11 December 2024. The selection process included that examination and a mandatory stenography skill test for candidates shortlisted from it. The skill test was qualifying, not a separate source of merit: final selection was based on computer-based examination merit among candidates who qualified, subject to the notice’s allocation and preference rules.

For the skill test, candidates received one 10-minute dictation in English or Hindi, at the language selected in the online application. They then transcribed it on a computer. The required dictation speed and transcription time depended on the grade and language:

Post Dictation speed English transcription time Hindi transcription time
Grade C 100 words per minute 40 minutes 55 minutes
Grade D 80 words per minute 50 minutes 65 minutes

The notice specified separate additional time for eligible candidates using a scribe. Candidates should refer to the official notice for the applicable conditions.
