“Today” in the SSC CGL 2024 deadline headline meant 27 July 2024. The Staff Selection Commission extended the application deadline from 24 July to 27 July at 11 p.m. India time; the fee-payment deadline moved to 28 July at 11 p.m. Both dates have passed, so SSC CGL 2024 applications are not open now.
What was the final SSC CGL 2024 application deadline?
SSC’s original notification set 24 July 2024 at 11 p.m. as the application closing time. A later official notice, issued on 24 July, extended the final deadline to 27 July 2024 at 11 p.m. The extension notice governs the final date; the earlier date explains why some copies of the original timetable still show 24 July. SSC’s 24 June 2024 examination notice and its 24 July 2024 extension notice record the change.

The extension changed the application and fee-payment deadlines, but not the correction window. These dates are historical, not an active opportunity as of 8 October 2026.
Why did the headline say “today”?
The phrase came from a 27 July 2024 news report, when the extended application window was due to close that day. Scroll’s contemporaneous report used the same deadline-day framing. Scroll’s 27 July 2024 report is useful for understanding the headline, while SSC’s notice is the primary source for the official deadline.

How many vacancies did SSC announce?
SSC described the CGL 2024 total as approximately 17,727 tentative vacancies and said firm vacancies would be determined later. It is the figure in the 2024 notice, not a current vacancy count or a guarantee that exactly that number of posts would be filled.
What posts and eligibility did the 2024 notice cover?
The examination was for likely Group B and Group C posts across Government of India ministries, departments, organizations and other bodies. Examples in the notice include Assistant Section Officer, Income Tax Inspector, Auditor, Accountant and Tax Assistant. Pay levels and conditions varied by post.

The general educational requirement was a bachelor’s degree, but some posts had additional qualifications. Age limits depended on the post: the notice listed bands of 18–27, 18–30, 20–30 or 18–32 years, with age calculated as of 1 August 2024. Category-based age relaxation and supporting certificate requirements also applied. Some inspector and sub-inspector roles had specific physical, medical or educational standards. The notice—not a single general age limit—determines eligibility for a particular post and category.
What were the fee and application requirements?
The application fee was ₹100. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen candidates were exempt under the 2024 notice. Applications were submitted online through SSC’s then-new portal at ssc.gov.in, and applicants needed to complete One-Time Registration there. Existing OTR credentials from the old ssc.nic.in portal did not work on the new site.

No. The 2024 notification gave tentative dates of September–October 2024 for Tier I and December 2024 for Tier II. Those were planning dates for that examination cycle, not a current schedule. For new recruitment notices, dates, vacancies and application instructions, use SSC’s official website and candidate resources.
