Ryanair’s 15 October 2025 announcement said it would cut more than 800,000 seats and cancel 24 routes across nine German airports for Winter 2025. Those figures are not the latest cuts: on 8 October 2026, the airline announced 700,000 fewer seats for Winter 2026, including 12 cancelled Berlin routes. Here’s what the two announcements mean for passengers planning travel.

What changed for Winter 2026
Ryanair’s 8 October 2026 announcement says it plans 700,000 fewer seats across Germany in Winter 2026 than in Winter 2025—a 10% reduction, according to the airline. The largest reductions are at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), where Ryanair says winter capacity will fall by 50%, and Hamburg, where it says capacity will fall by 5%. The airline says it will grow at Memmingen and Cologne and operate at Friedrichshafen and Saarbrücken for the first time in winter. Ryanair’s Winter 2026 announcement.

Ryanair also says it will reduce frequencies on remaining Berlin routes, so a route still on sale may offer fewer departure options.
Berlin base closure
Ryanair says it will close its seven-aircraft Berlin base from 24 October 2026 and redeploy the aircraft elsewhere in the EU. That does not mean the airline will stop serving Berlin: Ryanair says it will continue flying to and from the capital, but with lower capacity. In an April 2026 release, Ryanair DAC CEO Eddie Wilson said the planned closure followed what he described as the airport’s latest 10% fee increase. That is Ryanair’s stated position. Why Ryanair says it is reducing flights—and BER’s response
Ryanair attributes its German cuts to aviation tax, security charges, air-traffic-control charges and airport fees. Its explanations are the company’s account of its decisions; the available reporting does not establish independently that those costs alone caused the cuts.
BER disputed Ryanair’s characterization of fee increases, according to airliners.de’s 8 October 2026 report. The report says BER expects other airlines to cover six of the 12 connections Ryanair is dropping, but that the airport does not expect them to replace all of Ryanair’s reduced capacity.

A cancelled route does not tell you by itself whether a particular booking has changed. Schedules can vary by date, and replacement service may involve a different airline, fewer departures or another airport. Check your specific itinerary rather than relying on the route announcement alone.
