Russian authorities pursued ownership interests in three Russian Lesta entities, not the global World of Tanks franchise. RBC reported that a Moscow court granted the Prosecutor General’s claim in June 2025. Later court-docket entries show additional proceedings in 2026, but they do not establish that the ownership-transfer judgment was reversed.
What did the Russian court reportedly order?
On June 3, 2025, the Tagansky District Court of Moscow granted a claim by Russia’s Prosecutor General, according to RBC’s report. RBC said the court ordered ownership interests in three Lesta entities transferred to state income and prohibited the alleged association in Russia between Lesta owner Malik Khatazhaev and Wargaming owner Viktor Kisly. The hearing was closed; the public reporting cited here does not include the full decision. The allegations should therefore be understood as allegations attributed to the authorities, not as independently established facts.
The three companies identified in reporting on the case were LLC Lesta, LLC Lesta Games Moscow, and LLC Lesta Games Agency. The reported ruling concerned ownership interests in those entities. It should not be described as a transfer of the worldwide World of Tanks franchise or Wargaming’s operations outside Russia.
How did the case develop?
| Date | Reported or recorded event | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| 2022 | Wargaming announced it was leaving Russia and Belarus and that local live-games operations would transfer to Lesta Studio. | Wargaming said Lesta was no longer affiliated with it and that its operations in other countries would continue as before. |
| April 17, 2025 | RBC reported an initial freeze affecting three Lesta legal entities. The Prosecutor General was the claimant. Lesta said it was working to resolve the issue and operating under Russian and Belarusian law. | This was an interim asset freeze, not the later reported judgment transferring ownership interests. |
| June 3, 2025 | RBC reported that the Tagansky District Court granted the Prosecutor General’s claim. | The reported outcome concerned ownership interests in the three named Lesta companies and an alleged association between two owners. |
| July 2025 | Vedomosti reported a new claim by the Prosecutor General against Khatazhaev and Kisly. | This was a separate reported filing, not the June judgment or a debt-collection proceeding. |
| February 18–May 5, 2026 | Moscow City Court’s docket for appeal case 33а-3868/2026 records an order cancelling interim protective measures dated February 18, 2026. The appeal concluded on May 5, 2026, and left that order unchanged. | The docket entry concerns interim protective measures; it does not by itself show that the June 2025 ownership-transfer judgment was reversed. |
| May 6, 2026 | A separate Moscow City Court docket, case 33а-4229/2026, records that an appeal concluded with an appellate determination. | The available docket extract does not include the determination’s text, so its precise legal effect cannot be inferred from that entry alone. |
| March 25, 2026 | Kommersant reported that enforcement proceedings to collect a debt from Lesta Games Agency in favor of the state budget had been terminated. Lesta said the debt did not arise from its operations and had no consequences for studio operations. | This report concerns debt collection; it does not establish that the ownership-transfer judgment was overturned. |
How is Lesta connected to World of Tanks?
Wargaming announced its exit from Russia and Belarus in 2022 and said local live-games operations would be transferred to Lesta Studio. The Russian version of World of Tanks is called Mir Tankov. Wargaming said Lesta was no longer affiliated with it and that the company’s operations in other countries would continue as before. That corporate separation is why the court case involving Russian Lesta entities should not be treated as a seizure of the global game business.

What do the 2026 updates mean for the ownership case?
The public record described here shows more than one later development, but they concern different proceedings. The Moscow City Court docket for case 33а-3868/2026 records the cancellation of interim protective measures and an appeal that left that cancellation unchanged. A different appeal docket records an appellate determination on May 6 without giving its text. Separately, Kommersant’s report concerns termination of a debt-collection enforcement proceeding. None of those entries, on its own, establishes that the reported June 2025 ownership-transfer judgment was reversed.

The cited material does not report a transfer of Wargaming’s global World of Tanks operations. Wargaming’s 2022 statement said its operations in other countries would continue as before. The reported court claim concerned three Russian Lesta companies, so readers should distinguish that local corporate dispute from the worldwide game and its operations elsewhere.
