OpenAI announced $110 billion in new investment on February 27, 2026, at a stated $730 billion pre-money valuation. Amazon accounted for $50 billion of the announced total, while NVIDIA and SoftBank each committed $30 billion. The package also includes cloud and compute arrangements, which are separate from the investment commitments.
Who invested $110 billion in OpenAI?
OpenAI’s February 27 announcement named three investors: Amazon, NVIDIA and SoftBank. It said additional financial investors could join as the round progressed. The stated breakdown and related arrangements are:
| Investor | Announced investment | Timing or conditions | Associated infrastructure or partnership |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon | $50 billion | $15 billion initially; the remaining $35 billion is subject to conditions. | AWS distribution and compute partnership, including approximately two gigawatts of Trainium capacity. |
| NVIDIA | $30 billion | OpenAI’s announcement did not detail a tranche schedule. A later completion report is secondary reporting. | Dedicated compute plans using NVIDIA Vera Rubin systems. |
| SoftBank | $30 billion | Three scheduled $10 billion tranches; the first was completed April 1, 2026. | The cited announcements describe the investment but do not specify a comparable operating partnership. |

What is OpenAI’s valuation after the funding round?
OpenAI described the $730 billion figure as a pre-money valuation, meaning the valuation before the announced investment is added. It is not the round’s post-money valuation. Adding the announced $110 billion to $730 billion produces $840 billion arithmetically, but OpenAI did not identify that sum as a separate transaction valuation.

The announced amount is not proof that every dollar had already transferred on February 27. The companies described commitments and investment terms, some of which depend on later conditions or scheduled closings.
How much is Amazon investing, and what does the deal include?
Amazon announced a $50 billion investment: $15 billion to start, followed by $35 billion in the coming months if specified conditions are met. Amazon’s February 27 SEC filing says the further commitment is separate from the current-round purchase and is tied to specified milestones and/or a public listing transaction, subject to the agreement’s terms. The filing says the obligation terminates if it has not been invested by December 31, 2028, with possible acceleration. Amazon’s Form 8-K sets out the filing details.

The investment sits alongside a multi-year strategic partnership. Amazon and OpenAI said:
- AWS would be the exclusive third-party cloud distribution provider for OpenAI Frontier.
- They would co-create a Stateful Runtime Environment available through Amazon Bedrock.
- OpenAI would use approximately two gigawatts of Trainium capacity through AWS infrastructure.
- They would expand an existing $38 billion, multi-year AWS agreement by $100 billion over eight years.
These are commercial and infrastructure commitments, not additional equity investment figures. The companies’ announcement describes the partnership terms at Amazon’s press center.
What are NVIDIA and SoftBank contributing?
NVIDIA: investment and planned compute
OpenAI announced a $30 billion NVIDIA investment alongside plans for three gigawatts of inference compute and two gigawatts of training compute on Vera Rubin systems. OpenAI said the plans build on Hopper and Blackwell systems already operating across Microsoft, OCI and CoreWeave. These are infrastructure plans described by OpenAI, distinct from NVIDIA’s investment commitment; the announcement does not establish that all planned capacity is already deployed. OpenAI’s announcement provides the figures.
SoftBank: staged investment
SoftBank announced a $30 billion follow-on investment through SoftBank Vision Fund 2, structured as preferred shares in three $10 billion tranches scheduled for April 1, July 1 and October 1, 2026. Its April 15 offering memorandum confirms that the first tranche closed on April 1. SoftBank’s announcement and its April 15 offering memorandum filed through SGX provide the schedule and closing detail.

OpenAI linked the financing to expanding infrastructure and deploying frontier models. At the time of the announcement, the company also said ChatGPT had more than 900 million weekly active users and more than 50 million consumer subscribers. Those are company-reported figures dated to the announcement, not independently audited user counts in the cited materials.
