Rimini Street says it will provide third-party support for SAP ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA releases through 2040. That is Rimini Street’s service commitment—not an extension of SAP’s own maintenance dates for every SAP product or release. Separately, SAP says at least one S/4HANA release will remain in maintenance through the end of 2040.

What Rimini Street’s 2040 announcement covers

In an announcement dated June 5, 2025, Rimini Street said its support coverage through 2040 applies to SAP ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA releases, for both current and new clients. The company also said existing Rimini Support for SAP clients would not be affected by SAP end-of-maintenance dates. These are statements about Rimini Street’s service offer; customers should check the current contract and confirm coverage for their specific product and release. Rimini Street’s announcement

How SAP’s separate 2040 commitment differs

SAP’s own maintenance commitment is narrower than “every S/4HANA release is supported until 2040.” SAP says there will always be at least one S/4HANA release in maintenance through the end of 2040. A customer’s particular release may have a different lifecycle date, so the commitment does not by itself establish that the installed version will remain in SAP maintenance until then. SAP has separate dates for Business Suite 7 core applications: mainstream maintenance runs through the end of 2027, with optional extended maintenance through the end of 2030. SAP says the optional period runs from 2028 through 2030 and adds a two-percentage-point premium on the maintenance basis for the covered Business Suite 7 scope. Customers who do not opt in, or whose extended maintenance ends, receive customer-specific maintenance. Check eligibility, scope, and applicable terms with SAP rather than assuming the dates apply identically to every system. SAP’s maintenance strategy page

Check the lifecycle date for your own system

Rimini Street’s 2025 release says SAP ECC 6.0 mainstream maintenance is scheduled to end by 2027 and gives December 31, 2025, as the stated end date for enhancement packs 0–5. It also notes that S/4HANA end dates vary by version. Those are not interchangeable dates: identify the exact product, enhancement pack, and release, then verify its current status in SAP’s lifecycle information before making a plan. What to compare before choosing a support path

A 2040 support offer can create more time to decide, but it does not decide whether third-party support, SAP maintenance, or migration is right for a particular organization. Compare the options against the work the system must do and the obligations the organization must meet.

  • Lifecycle: Record the exact SAP product, release, enhancement pack, and applicable maintenance date.
  • Required support: Identify the fixes, updates, services, and response levels the business needs, and establish precisely what each provider will cover.
  • Customizations: Ask how support will handle the organization’s custom code and integrations.
  • Cost and transition: Compare full contract costs with the costs and timing of migration, including work needed to maintain or replace the current environment.
  • Risk ownership: Clarify who is responsible for security, tax, legal, and compliance requirements under each option.
  • Roadmap: Test whether continuing the current system fits planned business changes and the organization’s longer-term technology direction.

Rimini Street’s announcement claims potential savings of up to 50% off SAP annual support fees and up to 90% on total support costs. These are vendor claims, not independently verified outcomes across customers; they should not be treated as a forecast or guarantee for a specific organization. Rimini Street’s announcement

Customer examples show choices, not universal answers

In September 2025, Rimini Street reported that Japanese company Idemitsu Kosan chose it as a long-term ERP support and services partner for SAP ECC 6.0 and deferred a move to S/4HANA. The announcement quotes Idemitsu deputy general manager Takayoshi Sawai saying the company’s strategy was to add capabilities to its existing system rather than replace it. This is a company-published example of one organization’s decision, not evidence that the same approach will fit every SAP customer. Rimini Street’s Idemitsu announcement

The transition question is not new: SAP co-CEO Christian Klein said in 2020 that SAP wanted customers to have flexibility to migrate to S/4HANA at their own pace. That statement provides context for the transition policy at the time; it does not change the current product-specific lifecycle dates. SAP News Center’s 2020 article
