The Western Australian Government named the retailer as anchor tenant for the Home X Trade Hub in October 2025. PerthNow later reported that a development assessment panel supported the proposal; a project traffic assessment’s use of 2028 is a modelling assumption, not a promised opening date.
What is confirmed about the Costco Alkimos opening date?
The official announcement naming Costco as the Home X Trade Hub’s anchor tenant did not give a store opening date. A project traffic impact assessment estimated full development completion by 2028 and used 2028 as the opening year for traffic modelling. That date is an assumption for planning vehicle movements, not a public commitment by Costco or a confirmed date customers can rely on. The state announcement and project traffic assessment therefore establish different things: a tenant announcement and a modelling horizon.
What has happened with the proposal?
On 4 August 2026, PerthNow reported that the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel unanimously supported the proposed warehouse. PerthNow described an $80 million project with a 14,193-square-metre warehouse on a 66,821-square-metre site along Romeo Road. These details and the reported panel outcome are from secondary coverage; the panel’s decision record and any approval conditions are not established here. PerthNow’s report called Alkimos Costco’s third Perth warehouse and its first north of the river.
Where is the planned store?
The warehouse is proposed for Alkimos Central’s Home X Trade Hub, a 24-hectare large-format commercial site near Alkimos Station, with Mitchell Freeway access via Romeo Road. Those location and hub details come from the Western Australian Government’s 15 October 2025 announcement. The announcement also said DevelopmentWA was seeking expressions of interest from other commercial operators for up to 17 hectares in the hub; that is a commercial leasing and development detail, not a consumer offer.

Is the 2027 Alkimos opening date for Costco?
No. DevelopmentWA’s project timeline says the first stage of the separate Alkimos Central town-centre retail precinct is expected to open in 2027, and warns that timeframes may change. That precinct is distinct from the Costco warehouse. The state describes its first stage as a 2.4-hectare, $33 million retail and services development with a full-line supermarket, childcare, medical and allied health services, and specialty, convenience and hospitality stores. See DevelopmentWA’s timeline and the state announcement about the retail precinct.

Planning and Lands Minister John Carey described the commercial opportunity for other businesses as a chance to establish alongside a global retail leader and draw customer traffic. That was the minister’s promotional characterization of the leasing opportunity, not an independent forecast or a Costco opening announcement.
