RFK Jr. Reportedly Earned More Than $1.16 Million From Children’s Health Defense in 2022–2023

Corrected disclosures reportedly list $1,165,627.25 in RFK Jr.’s Children’s Health Defense compensation for 2022 and 2023. Here’s how that compares with his public statements and other disclosed income.

Corrected personal financial disclosures reportedly show Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received $1,165,627.25 from Children’s Health Defense (CHD) in 2022 and 2023 combined. That compensation contrasts with Kennedy’s earlier public descriptions of his advocacy work as unpaid or as having “the opposite of a profit motive.” The records document the reported amounts and statements; they do not, by themselves, establish that Kennedy intended to mislead anyone.

How much did Kennedy earn from Children’s Health Defense?

The Daily Beast reported that Kennedy’s corrected personal financial disclosures listed $836,571.25 from CHD in 2022 and $326,056 in 2023, for a two-year total of $1,165,627.25. Those are reported compensation figures from corrected disclosure forms, not a calculation that includes his other income.

A separate nomination disclosure, transcribed by ProPublica, lists $326,000 in CHD salary and bonus income. The Associated Press, citing government ethics forms released in January 2025, likewise reports $326,000 for three months of CHD work in 2023. These 2023 figures are consistent in scale, though they come from different filing contexts and the reported amounts are not identical.

For the original reporting on the corrected two-year figures and Kennedy’s explanation, see The Daily Beast. ProPublica’s transcription of the nomination disclosure and the Associated Press report provide additional detail on that filing.

What Kennedy said about whether the work was paid

The Daily Beast reported that Kennedy told Tucker Carlson in 2017, “I’m getting unpaid for this. This has been probably the worse career move that I’ve ever made.” In 2021, he told InfoWars his advocacy had “the opposite of a profit motive,” according to the same report. These are Kennedy’s public statements as quoted or reported by The Daily Beast.

Why the 2023 figures do not tell the whole story

The nomination disclosure transcription lists Kennedy as CHD chairman and chief legal counsel from May 2016 through December 2024. It also lists an unpaid leave agreement effective April 1, 2023, without benefits or other compensation, and says he resigned in December 2024. A period of unpaid leave beginning in April does not mean he received no compensation earlier in 2023; the disclosed 2023 amount covers compensation reported for that year, including the earlier period.

In a December 11, 2024 letter to the Office of Government Ethics, Kennedy said he had used net pay rather than gross wages for CHD income. The Daily Beast reproduced his description of the discrepancy as an “inadvertent error.” That is Kennedy’s explanation for the correction, not an independently established finding about how the original figure came to be wrong.

CHD compensation was separate from other reported income

Kennedy’s nomination disclosure included income in categories besides CHD pay. ProPublica’s transcription lists $451,000 from Skyhorse Publishing for consulting on author introductions, book ideas, forewords, and a bonus, as well as $857,000 in referral fees from WisnerBaum. The Associated Press separately reports more than $850,000 in referral fees from the law firm, which sued Merck over Gardasil.

Those publishing and law-firm amounts are not CHD compensation and should not be added to the $1,165,627.25 reported for CHD in 2022 and 2023. They are distinct categories in a different disclosure context.
