Intel’s 2025 Santa Clara layoff notice covered about 107 employees connected to its headquarters, with layoffs expected to begin July 15, 2025, according to CRN. The report describes a California notice from 2025—not a new 2026 layoff announcement—and its role list is not a complete tally of Intel-wide reductions.
What the Intel Santa Clara notice said
CRN reported that the notice covered roughly 107 employees connected to Intel’s Santa Clara, California, headquarters. It gave July 15, 2025, as the expected start date. That date was a planned start, not confirmation that every employee’s separation occurred on that day.
The roles below are the positions CRN listed in connection with the notice. They should be read as a partial list, not a full inventory of the people affected or of Intel’s layoffs company-wide.
| Role listed by CRN | Number listed |
|---|---|
| Physical design engineers | 22 |
| Physical design engineering managers | 3 |
| System-on-chip logic design engineers | 3 |
| Product development engineers | 3 |
| Design-for-test design engineers | 4 |
| Cloud software architects | 6 |
| Cloud software engineering managers | 4 |
| Cloud software development engineers | 2 |
| AI systems and solutions engineering manager | 1 |
| Business-unit vice president of IT | 1 |
| Business project manager | 1 |
| Engineering project manager | 1 |
| Silicon design engineering manager | 1 |
| Strategic business development manager | 1 |
| Software product manager | 1 |
| Technology project manager | 1 |
| Technology strategy manager | 1 |
CRN’s account said affected employees had either received 60 days’ notice or a four-week notice accompanied by nine weeks of pay and benefits in lieu of further notice. Those terms describe the employees covered in that report; they should not be assumed to apply to other Intel workers.

Why Intel said it was reducing its workforce
In an April 24, 2025, message to employees, Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said workforce reductions would begin in the second quarter and proceed as quickly as possible over the following months. He linked the plan to simplifying the organization, removing layers, lowering costs, empowering engineers and retaining key talent. Tan acknowledged the consequences directly: “There is no way around the fact that these critical changes will reduce the size of our workforce.” He also said, “I’m a big believer in the philosophy that the best leaders get the most done with the fewest people.” The message is available from Intel.
How the manufacturing-cut report differs
CRN separately cited a report based on an internal memo that Intel planned to cut 15% to 20% of workers in its chip-manufacturing division. That percentage is not the size of the Santa Clara notice: it refers to a different reported scope, and CRN did not present it as a confirmed final total. It should not be added to the roughly 107 employees or treated as a company-wide layoff percentage.

Broader Intel workforce figures for 2025
For wider context, The Associated Press reported on July 24, 2025, that Tan said Intel planned to end the year with 75,000 core employees, excluding subsidiaries. AP compared that plan with 99,500 core employees at the end of 2024. These are company-level workforce figures reported by AP, not counts from the Santa Clara notice; the planned year-end figure included reductions through layoffs and attrition. See the Associated Press report.

No. The notice and workforce plans described here concern 2025. They do not establish a new layoff announcement in 2026. The roughly 107 figure is tied to one California notice, and neither that notice nor the role list provides a reliable total for all Intel layoffs under Tan.
