Rare Carat is a US online retailer where you can search loose diamonds and start a custom engagement ring with either a stone or a setting. The available information confirms those shopping features, but does not establish that Rare Carat is the best US retailer. Whether it is a good choice for you depends on the stone, its grading documentation, the total price, and the retailer’s exact purchase and return terms.
What Rare Carat offers
Rare Carat’s loose-diamond catalog presents searchable natural-diamond listings with filters. Customers can also begin a custom engagement ring by choosing a diamond or a setting. Inventory and displayed prices can change, so check the specific listing rather than relying on a previously quoted count or price.
The retailer’s services page describes free insured shipping, a 30-day return period, a lifetime manufacturing warranty, one free ring resize within a year, and diamond authenticity inspection. These are Rare Carat’s own service claims, not independently audited performance findings. Its page also refers broadly to jewelry insurance through partners but does not identify providers or set out policy terms.
How to judge whether a listed diamond is right for you
Set your budget before filtering
Decide on a total spending limit before comparing stones. Consider the price of the diamond together with any setting and other costs shown for your order. Shape and cut affect appearance and price, so make tradeoffs according to what matters to you rather than following a single formula.

Compare the 4Cs, then look at the actual stone
The 4Cs are cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. A grade is useful for comparison, but it does not tell you everything about a stone’s appearance: GIA notes that diamonds with identical grading reports may still look different. Review the grading report and the individual stone’s imagery; use 360-degree views where available. GIA’s diamond buying guide offers questions to consider, including whether you have received a GIA grading report and whether you considered your budget.
Carat is a measure of weight, not a direct measurement of how large a diamond looks face-up. The FTC says one carat equals one-fifth of a gram. Compare the stone’s listed dimensions and appearance as well as its carat weight.

Check origin and grading paperwork
Make sure the listing and its paperwork clearly identify whether a diamond is natural or laboratory-grown. FTC guidance says lab-grown diamonds should be described in terms that disclose they are not mined diamonds. The FTC’s Jewelry Guides say that disclosure should appear immediately before the word “diamond” and be equally conspicuous. The agency sent warning letters to eight jewelry marketers in 2019 over online diamond ads that could mislead consumers about simulated or lab-created stones and required disclosures.
Check who issued the grading report and that the report corresponds to the specific stone. GIA recommends a reputable laboratory grading report for online purchases. The FTC also advises consumers to have important statements about origin, weight or size, treatments, and care requirements included in the sales paperwork.

What to confirm before ordering from Rare Carat
Read the return terms for the specific purchase
Rare Carat’s return policy states that its 30-day period begins on the shipment date. It requires the item to be unworn and in original condition, with the grading certificate included, and describes a return-label process and refund timing. Read the current policy before placing an order so you know the applicable steps and conditions.
Understand warranty and upgrade limits
The published warranty covers manufacturing defects. The diamond-upgrade rules are conditional, with requirements that include purchase-date cutoffs, minimum price multiples for a replacement diamond, condition and original-report requirements, eligible color grades, and other exclusions. Consult Rare Carat’s warranty and upgrade terms for the rules that apply to your purchase; a lifetime warranty should not be read as an unconditional diamond trade-in.

Get important promises in writing
Before paying, make sure the order documents identify the stone and record material representations about its origin, weight or size, treatments, and care. Confirm the shipping and insurance arrangements, warranty scope, return requirements, and any upgrade eligibility against the current terms linked to your specific purchase. FTC consumer guidance recommends checking a seller’s reputation and refund policy and keeping key product statements in the sales paperwork.

There is not enough independently verified comparative information to establish Rare Carat as the best US retailer. Its searchable catalog and custom-ring flow make it a place to compare natural loose-diamond listings, while its stated service and return terms give buyers concrete conditions to review. Choose it only if a particular stone fits your budget and preferences, its report and imagery meet your needs, and you are comfortable with the written terms. Apply the same checks to any other seller you consider.
