People Can Fly said on June 1, 2025, that it was suspending development of Project Gemini and Project Bifrost and would scale down its teams. Contemporary reporting put the June redundancies at 60, although CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski did not give a figure in his announcement. The company used the word “suspend”; the available reports do not establish that either project was permanently cancelled.
What People Can Fly announced
CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski announced the decisions on June 1, 2025. The studio said it would “significantly regroup as a studio and scale down our teams” as it responded to uncertainty around Gemini and its financial capacity. The two projects had different publishers and different stated reasons for stopping production.

Project Gemini: publisher and milestone uncertainty
Gemini was being developed with Square Enix. People Can Fly said Square Enix had not provided a draft of a subsequent content rider to the publishing agreement, which would cover terms for further project milestones. The publisher also had not communicated whether it intended to continue or terminate the project.
Wojciechowski’s statement, reproduced by PC Gamer, described the suspension as resulting from the missing rider and the lack of communication about the publisher’s intentions. PCF did not state that Square Enix had permanently cancelled Gemini.

Project Bifrost: funding and resources
Bifrost was planned as a self-published game. People Can Fly said its cash-flow analysis showed no prospects for securing the organizational resources and funding needed to continue production and release the project. The company linked that decision to uncertainty around Gemini and its own ability to finance continued development.
How many developers were laid off?
Game Developer reported that a separate current report put the June 2025 redundancies at 60. That number was not included in the CEO’s social announcement, so it should be attributed to the contemporary report rather than presented as a figure Wojciechowski announced. Game Developer also reproduced his expression of regret and gratitude to those affected: “We wish to express our deepest regret and sadness over how these events have unfolded and our sincere gratitude for everyone’s contribution up to this point.” Read the report.

The available reporting does not specify which roles, locations or teams were affected by the June redundancies.
Why “suspended” is more precise than “cancelled”
Some headlines described the games as cancelled, but People Can Fly’s reported wording was that development was suspended. The June announcement explains why work stopped; it does not establish that either project was permanently abandoned or later restarted. Until the studio or its partners clarify their status, “suspended” is the more precise description.

How this differs from People Can Fly’s 2024 cuts
The June 2025 action followed a separate restructuring in December 2024. People Can Fly had ended development on Project Victoria and reduced the Bifrost team; GameSpot reported 120 layoffs in that earlier round. That 120 figure is not the count for June 2025, when contemporary reporting attributed 60 redundancies to the studio. GameSpot’s report covers the earlier restructuring.
People Can Fly has also developed released games including Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War: Judgment and Outriders, according to its investor information. Those titles are background to the studio’s history; they were not among the two projects suspended in June 2025.
