Nine airlines publish student or young-adult fares: Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Air France, Vietnam Airlines, Cathay Pacific, IndiGo, KLM, SAS and Loganair. The offers vary substantially: some require current enrollment, others are age-based, and discounts, baggage and change rules depend on the route and fare. Compare the full price and conditions for your itinerary rather than choosing by the advertised percentage alone.
How to compare student and youth fares
A student fare usually requires proof of enrollment; a youth fare may be available based on age alone. Before booking, check these details for the exact flight:
- Eligibility: age limits, enrollment status, and accepted proof.
- Itinerary: eligible routes and whether every operating flight must be served by that airline.
- Fare and channel: cabin or fare class, booking website/app or agent, and inventory limits.
- Total cost: whether the advertised discount excludes taxes and surcharges, plus any baggage or service charges.
- Flexibility: change fees, fare differences, cancellation terms and refunds.
Compare the student or youth ticket with a standard fare for the same origin, destination, dates, baggage and flexibility. An advertised discount may apply only to selected fares, and the lowest total price may be a regular ticket. Rules below reflect the airlines’ cited pages checked October 3, 2026; offers and market-specific terms can change.

Cathay Pacific
Cathay Pacific publishes student fares with campaign-specific prices and baggage or change benefits. The cited Canadian campaign is dated April 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027. Accepted proof can include an ISIC, student visa, student number, or institution-issued admission or acceptance document.
If asked for proof and unable to provide it, a passenger may have to buy a new non-student ticket, subject to availability; the airline says the unused student ticket may be refundable subject to applicable charges. SAS
SAS Young is age-based, not an enrollment-based student fare. The US page says savings start at 10% on SAS flights and can reach 70% on less popular flights compared with regular fares; the maximum is not guaranteed for a particular flight. A physical ID is required to verify age at the airport.
Baggage and refund rules vary by Young ticket type. SAS lists free date or time rebooking until departure, with any fare difference payable. Young tickets for destinations outside Europe are round-trip only, and youth tickets must be booked separately from adult tickets. SAS Young ticket rules.
Loganair
Loganair’s Student Study Travel fares are for eligible 12–25-year-olds enrolled in full-time, vocational, technical or nurse-training courses at a UK college or university, traveling between home and their place of study. Young Scot members in that age range may also qualify. Accepted verification includes an education document, Young Scot card or Student Union card.
The fare must be booked through Loganair’s call centre or selected travel agents and is restricted to the nearest airports serving the home and study locations. Loganair advises comparing it with lower-priced online advance fares, which may offer different flexibility. Loganair Student Study Travel.

Quick Recap
What to have ready before booking
- Confirm eligibility. Check the age cutoff and whether full-time enrollment is required. A youth fare and a student fare are not interchangeable.
- Check the actual flight. Confirm the eligible route, operating carrier, fare class and booking channel, along with any minimum-stay or trip-type rules.
- Read the fare conditions. Verify baggage allowance, change and cancellation charges, refund rules, and whether the offer excludes taxes or surcharges.
- Prepare valid proof. Check which documents are accepted and when they may be inspected. Carry the required current ID or enrollment evidence for travel.
- Compare like for like. Price the student or youth fare against a standard fare with the same itinerary, baggage and flexibility before paying.
