For everyday branded clothing, start with Poshmark; use eBay for broad reach and unusual items, Depop for vintage and streetwear, and specialist services for luxury or a hands-off closet cleanout. This guide is for U.S. sellers. Fees, shipping, returns, taxes, and payout rules vary by location and can change, so check each platform’s current terms before listing.
The eight picks below are organized by use case rather than a universal ranking. The 2025 title is updated because current platform policies include changes introduced after 2025, including ThredUp’s 2026 Direct Listing beta.
Quick picks: which clothing-selling app should you use?
| Platform | Best for | Workload | Shipping and selling model | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Poshmark | Everyday branded clothing | List, negotiate, pack, and ship each order | Fashion marketplace; prepaid label after a sale | Commission can make low-priced sales less worthwhile |
| eBay | Wide reach, unusual brands, and items with searchable sales histories | Detailed self-service listing and order management | Fixed-price or auction; shipping and fee details depend on listing and account | More rules to manage, including returns and category-specific fees |
| Depop | Vintage, Y2K, streetwear, and visually distinctive fashion | Self-service, with photography and style presentation important | Fashion marketplace; check current U.S. fee and shipping terms | Ordinary basics may not suit its trend-led audience |
| Mercari | Beginners selling mixed household goods and clothing | Self-service listing and fulfillment | General marketplace; check current fees, shipping, and withdrawal rules | Less fashion-focused than specialist apps |
| ThredUp Clean Out | Sending in a large closet cleanout with minimal listing work | Managed intake, listing, and fulfillment | Send eligible items to ThredUp; payout depends on the program and sale | Less control and potential processing or unsold-item costs |
| Vestiaire Collective | Designer fashion and international luxury buyers | Self-service listing with authentication and shipping steps | Luxury marketplace with a published U.S. fee schedule | Fees can take a large share of lower-priced sales |
| The RealReal | Hands-off consignment for high-end designer goods | Managed consignment | RealReal handles much of the selling process; seller receives a variable share | Less control over pricing, timing, and proceeds |
| Grailed | Menswear, designer fashion, and streetwear | Self-service listing and shipping | Specialist marketplace; check current seller terms | Smaller, more specialized audience than eBay |
For local pickup, Facebook Marketplace is a useful alternative for inexpensive bundles or bulky items. It is not included in the eight national platform picks because its local, in-person model differs from shipped clothing marketplaces.
How to choose the best site for your clothes
Match the item to its buyers
- Everyday branded basics: Try Poshmark, Mercari, or eBay. Compare similar sold items before deciding whether each piece is worth listing individually.
- Vintage, Y2K, or visually distinctive pieces: Depop may suit trend-led items; eBay can be useful when buyers search by exact label, era, model, or measurements.
- Men’s streetwear or designer: Consider Grailed or eBay.
- Luxury designer: Compare Vestiaire Collective, where you manage the listing, with The RealReal, which offers managed consignment.
- A large batch of eligible clothing: ThredUp Clean Out trades control and potential proceeds for less listing work.
- Bulky or low-value bundles: Local Facebook Marketplace pickup can avoid packing and shipping individual orders.
- Handmade or customized garments: An independent store or a marketplace designed for handmade goods may fit better than a resale app. Etsy has its own rules for what qualifies; check them before listing.
Decide how much work you will do
On eBay, Poshmark, Depop, Mercari, Vestiaire, and Grailed, expect to photograph and describe items, set prices, answer questions, and fulfill orders. ThredUp Clean Out and The RealReal handle more of the selling process, but give you less control. An independent store such as Shopify gives a repeat seller control over the storefront, but does not bring marketplace traffic automatically; it is usually a poor fit for clearing a few items.
#1 Best Overall
- CLOTHING SHIPPING BAGS: Use these mailer bags for clothing and other non-fragile items that fit the selected dimensions.
- ADHESIVE CLOSURE: These poly shipping bags use a covered adhesive strip; remove the liner, fold the flap, and press across it.
- SIZE AND QUANTITY: This variation includes 100 black 10x13 in mailing bags; review the dimensions and quantity before packing.
- MAILING ENVELOPES: Use for flexible, non-fragile contents; add separate packing material or a box for rigid, sharp, or breakable items.
- SHIPPING BAGS FOR SMALL BUSINESS: Use for packing clothing and other non-fragile items that fit the selected size.
Compare net earnings, not just the headline fee
Use this estimate for each item: net payout = sale price − seller commission − payment-processing fees − shipping subsidy − packaging costs − return-related losses − optional promotion costs. A platform advertising no seller commission may still involve payment processing, shipping, buyer fees, returns, or withdrawal costs. Your time matters too: divide net earnings by the hours spent photographing, listing, messaging, packing, and resolving issues.
Eight best sites and apps to sell clothes online
1. Poshmark: best all-around for everyday branded clothing
Poshmark is a strong first stop for recognizable women’s, men’s, and children’s brands when you want a clothing-focused audience and a guided shipping process. You set the price, create the listing, handle offers, and ship when an item sells. Poshmark provides a prepaid shipping label after the sale; its social features can help expose listings but can also add ongoing work. See Poshmark’s selling information and its support center for current fees and shipping rules.
Poshmark’s commission can be a poor fit for inexpensive pieces, especially after negotiation. Calculate the expected payout before listing a low-priced item, and consider bundling similar items if the platform and current rules allow it. Skip Poshmark if you do not want to manage listings and shipping yourself.
2. eBay: best for broad reach and unusual inventory
eBay works across clothing categories and is especially useful for vintage, niche labels, uniforms, shoes, and items whose value depends on an exact model, year, size, or condition. You can choose fixed-price or auction formats and use sold-item searches to inform pricing. Start with eBay sold-item research and the Seller Hub.

Fees are not one universal percentage. eBay says its final value fee is calculated from the total sale amount plus a per-order fee; the amount can include the item price, shipping collected from the buyer, sales tax, and other applicable charges. U.S. sellers may receive up to 250 zero-insertion-fee listings per month, subject to terms and exclusions. Category, Store status, and account factors affect the actual rate, so check eBay’s Store fee table and general selling-fee rules before pricing. Shipping, returns, and seller-performance rules also take more attention than on a simpler fashion app.
3. Depop: best for vintage, streetwear, and trend-led pieces
Depop’s fashion-first presentation suits vintage, Y2K, streetwear, archival fashion, and items whose appeal depends on styling or subculture. Strong photos and accurate aesthetic keywords matter; ordinary basics may have a harder time finding the right audience. See Depop’s selling information.
Available sources conflict on Depop’s U.S. seller-fee structure: a U.S. seller handbook states a 10% flat-rate fee, while recent secondary coverage describes no U.S. selling fee but a payment-processing fee. Do not assume either figure applies to your account; check Depop’s live U.S. terms and payment details before setting prices. This uncertainty makes an all-in payout comparison more useful than a headline commission comparison.
4. Mercari: best for beginners with mixed inventory
Mercari is a general marketplace, so it can suit someone selling clothes alongside shoes, accessories, toys, or household items. Its simpler general-purpose approach may be convenient for casual sellers, but clothing has less specialized exposure than it does on Poshmark or Depop. See Mercari’s U.S. selling page.
Rank #3
- HOODIE-READY SIZE & BUNDLE CAPACITY: Stop worrying about fit. At 14.5" x 19", these mailers are specifically sized for high-volume clothing sellers. Comfortably fit thick winter hoodies, denim jeans, or Poshmark bundles that smaller 12x15" bags can’t handle. The generous width allows you to seal the flap without forcing the seams, ensuring a professional look for every order.
- TAMPER-PROOF "SET & FORGET" ADHESIVE: Engineered for high-stress transit. Our ultra-strong, wide adhesive strip creates a permanent seal that won't "pop" under pressure from bulky items or melt in hot delivery trucks. Once sealed, it is tamper-evident—it will tear the bag before opening—giving you and your customers peace of mind that the contents are secure without needing extra packing tape.
- HEAVY-DUTY TEAR & PUNCTURE RESISTANCE: Built to survive the warehouse floor. These waterproof mailers feature reinforced side seams and high-density polyethylene that resists punctures from shoe box corners, book edges, and zippers. They offer the professional "heft" of brands like Fuxury, ensuring your apparel arrives clean, dry, and rip-free even in rain or rough handling.
- 100% OPAQUE FOR TOTAL PRIVACY: Protect your brand and your customer’s privacy. The multi-layer white exterior is completely opaque—zero transparency even when shipping black leggings or bright neon apparel. The clean, crisp white surface provides a professional "boutique" feel and is optimized for thermal labels and permanent markers, ensuring barcodes scan perfectly every time.
- THE SMALL BUSINESS "SWEET SPOT" VALUE: This 100-pack offers the perfect test quantity for occasional sellers and growing small businesses who need "bulk-grade" quality without the storage headache. Designed to be lightweight to keep you in lower USPS Ground Advantage tiers, these mailers save you money on both material costs and postage compared to bulky boxes.
Recent secondary coverage reports a 10% seller fee, but policies have changed over time and that figure should not be treated as a confirmed current all-in cost. Check the Mercari Help Center for live seller fees, buyer charges, shipping options, and withdrawal rules. Include any payment, shipping, or withdrawal costs in your estimate.
5. ThredUp Clean Out: best for a low-effort closet clearout
With Clean Out, you send eligible clothing to ThredUp; the service handles inspection, photography, listing, fulfillment, and returns. That can be useful when avoiding individual listings matters more than controlling every price or maximizing the sale of a particularly desirable piece. Check eligible items and the process at ThredUp Clean Out.
ThredUp’s current help page lists processing fees per 30-pound-capacity Clean Out label or bag: $14.99 for a standard bag, $30 for a premium bag, or $34.99 for a premium bag with unaccepted-item returns. It also lists a $5.99 reclaim fee per unsold item, plus return shipping. These are policy figures shown on the current page in 2026, not established 2025 rates; review the current fee rules before sending a bag. Payout varies by item and program, and eligible inventory, processing, or unsold-item costs can make this a poor choice for a few valuable garments. ThredUp explains possible earnings in its earnings information.
6. Vestiaire Collective: best for luxury with international reach
Vestiaire Collective is designed for designer fashion and an international luxury audience. Its authentication-related process and shipping arrangements may add steps, so it fits items valuable enough to justify them better than inexpensive clothing. See Vestiaire’s selling page.

For U.S. sellers listing in USD, the current fee page says items under $83 incur a fixed $10 selling fee; items from $83 to $16,667 incur a 12% selling fee; and items over $16,667 incur a fixed $2,000 selling fee. Payment processing is 3%, with a $3 minimum, and the minimum listing price is $18. Vestiaire says this schedule applies to items listed from July 18, 2025 onward. Check the current U.S. fee schedule and authentication information when calculating a specific sale.
7. The RealReal: best for hands-off luxury consignment
The RealReal is aimed at high-end designer clothing and accessories. Its managed consignment model handles much of the photography, merchandising, authentication, fulfillment, and customer service, making it an option for a substantial designer wardrobe when hands-on listing is undesirable. Learn how it works through The RealReal’s seller information and consignment page.
You have less control over pricing and sale timing than on a self-service marketplace, and the seller’s share varies by category, sale price, seller status, and program. Secondary coverage describes commissions broadly around 20% to 70%, but this is directional rather than a universal schedule. Request terms for your items and read the current consignor terms before committing. It is not suited to ordinary fast-fashion or low-value basics.
8. Grailed: best for menswear, streetwear, and designer fashion
Grailed’s specialized audience makes it a fit for menswear, streetwear, sneakers, archive pieces, and contemporary designer labels. Include measurements, clear condition details, and photos of labels and flaws; knowledgeable buyers may scrutinize authenticity and specifics. Start with Grailed’s selling page and confirm current rules through Grailed support.

Recent comparison coverage cites a 9% commission plus payment-processing fees, but seller terms can change. Verify the live schedule and calculate both charges rather than treating 9% as the total cost. The audience is narrower than eBay’s, so ordinary basics may be a weak fit.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Estimate the payout before you list
Suppose a garment sells for $50. Its take-home amount is not automatically $50 minus a platform’s advertised commission: the result depends on the platform’s current fee schedule, who pays shipping, processing charges, packaging, and any return or promotion costs. For example, Vestiaire’s published U.S. schedule for a $50 listing falls in its under-$83 tier: $10 selling fee plus a 3% processing fee, subject to the $3 processing minimum. That means $13 in stated platform fees before shipping, packaging, returns, or other costs, leaving $37 before those deductions. This illustration applies only to the stated Vestiaire U.S. fee schedule for eligible listings; it is not a general estimate for other platforms.
For eBay, do not apply a single clothing percentage to the same $50 example without checking the exact category, seller status, order fee, shipping amount, and other applicable charges. For ThredUp or The RealReal, use the specific program’s estimate or terms rather than assuming a fixed payout share.
Price and prepare a listing that buyers can trust
Price from comparable sold items
- Search completed or sold listings where available; compare the exact brand, style, size, color, material, age, and condition.
- Adjust for season and condition. Original retail price alone is not a reliable resale price.
- Leave room for offers where negotiation is common, but set a minimum acceptable payout after fees.
- Use actual measurements for vintage, unisex, altered, or inconsistently sized garments.
Include the details that prevent avoidable disputes
- State the brand and exact model or style name, tagged size, and measurements.
- Include material and care-label details where available.
- Describe stains, pilling, odor, repairs, missing buttons, alterations, and any other flaws plainly.
- Photograph the front, back, label, fabric, size, and every flaw in clear light.
- Use accurate searchable keywords; do not imply a brand, style, or authenticity you cannot support.
- Weigh the packed item and measure the parcel when shipping charges depend on them.
Shipping, returns, and payout risks to plan for
- Shipping: Check whether the platform supplies a prepaid label, lets you calculate postage, or expects local pickup. Package coats, shoes, handbags, and embellished items so they are protected without creating avoidable weight or dimension overages.
- Evidence and tracking: Photograph the garment and its condition before shipping, keep the tracking number, and retain relevant transaction records.
- Returns and disputes: Review the platform’s return and buyer-protection rules before listing. Undisclosed flaws can prompt “not as described” claims, and a “sold as-is” statement does not necessarily override marketplace protections.
- Counterfeits: Do not list luxury goods you cannot authenticate or accurately identify. Suspected counterfeits can lead to removal, withheld funds, or account action.
- Payout timing: Funds may be released after delivery, buyer acceptance, an inspection period, a return window, or another platform-specific event. Check the current policy rather than assuming an instant payout.
- Off-platform requests: Keep payment and communication on the marketplace where the sale began; taking a buyer off-platform can remove protections and expose you to scams.
- Cross-listing: Remove an item promptly when it sells elsewhere, track each platform’s shipping deadline, and organize inventory locations to prevent double sales. Cross-listing software is worth considering only when sales volume justifies its cost.
Choose based on your specific selling goal
- “I have ordinary women’s or children’s branded clothes.” Start with Poshmark; compare Mercari or eBay for items with strong search demand.
- “I have vintage or Y2K pieces.” Try Depop for visual, trend-led items and eBay for exact-label or era searches.
- “I have men’s streetwear.” Compare Grailed with eBay.
- “I have designer goods.” Choose Vestiaire if you want to manage the listing and reach luxury buyers internationally; compare The RealReal if convenience is worth less control.
- “I need to clear a whole closet.” Consider ThredUp Clean Out after estimating processing and unsold-item costs.
- “I want local cash and no shipping.” Use Facebook Marketplace for suitable local bundles or bulky items, and take care with in-person safety and payment arrangements.
- “I want the least work.” Compare managed ThredUp Clean Out or The RealReal, depending on what you own; self-service marketplaces require more hands-on work.
- “I want to sell repeatedly under my own brand.” An independent store can give you storefront control, but you must bring customers yourself and account for operating costs.
Keep records and check tax rules
U.S. sellers should keep records of sale prices, platform fees, shipping and packaging costs, refunds and returns, payouts, and—if selling for profit—the item’s original cost basis. Tax reporting and tax owed depend on current federal and state rules and your circumstances; do not assume a platform’s reporting threshold determines whether income is taxable. Check current IRS guidance or consult a qualified tax professional for your situation.
