Recommended Free Tools
Yes—you can build and host a basic business website with HubSpot without coding or a credit card. HubSpot’s free website tools include drag-and-drop editing, themes, hosting, SSL/security features, forms and analytics. The important catch is that “free website” does not mean a free registered domain: you can connect a domain you already own at no HubSpot upgrade cost, or publish on a HubSpot-assigned subdomain.
This guide walks a solo founder, freelancer, consultant or local business through the complete process: account setup, design, pages, lead capture, domain connection, publishing and post-launch checks.
What HubSpot’s free website option includes
| Included or potentially available at no charge | Not automatically included |
|---|---|
| Drag-and-drop website editing | Registration of a new domain name |
| Themes and templates | Every premium Content Hub feature |
| HubSpot hosting | Advanced custom development |
| SSL and security features for HubSpot-hosted content | Unlimited access to all marketing tools |
| Forms and analytics tools | Premium marketplace themes or modules |
| Connection of an existing custom domain | Professional copywriting, design or development |
HubSpot advertises a free drag-and-drop builder and says no credit card is required to start. Advanced functionality is offered in paid Content Hub editions, and feature limits can vary by account and plan. See HubSpot’s builder details and its CMS overview.
Prepare these items before you start
- Business name, audience and service area
- Logo, brand colors and preferred fonts
- Short descriptions of each service or product
- Accurate email, phone number, hours and address
- Original photos, team biographies, credentials and testimonials
- A domain you already own, if you want a branded URL
- Privacy-policy and other legal text appropriate to your business
- One primary call to action, such as “Request a quote” or “Book a consultation”
A small business can start with one focused page. Four thin pages are less useful than one page that clearly explains the offer and gives visitors a way to contact you.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Step 1: Create a free HubSpot account
- Open HubSpot’s signup page.
- Create or sign in to your account and complete the onboarding prompts.
- Open the website, CMS or Content Hub area in the product navigation.
The exact menu label can change as HubSpot updates its interface. If you see a trial or premium onboarding path, look for the free CMS or website-builder route rather than assuming an upgrade is required. Your expected result is a workspace where you can select a theme and create pages.
Step 2: Choose a responsive theme
Open the theme or template selection screen and choose a design that fits your business. HubSpot describes a theme as a packaged set of templates and assets that controls the appearance of multiple pages; a template is an individual page layout.
Check these points before applying a theme
- It adapts cleanly to phone and desktop screens.
- The navigation is easy to read and supports your planned pages.
- It includes suitable service, contact and form modules.
- Basic pages do not depend on paid modules.
- Typography, spacing and contrast remain readable.
HubSpot says its marketplace contains hundreds of professional themes, but individual themes or modules may be paid. Preview the mobile view before committing. If a theme creates awkward layouts, change themes early instead of rebuilding every page.
Step 3: Set branding and navigation
- Upload your logo and set the site’s colors and fonts.
- Configure the header and footer, including contact details and legal links.
- Create a short primary menu: Home, Services, About, FAQ and Contact are common choices.
- Add a visible contact, quote or booking button.
- Set a favicon if the current editor provides that option.
Keep navigation focused. Visitors should know what you do, who you serve and how to take the next step without searching through a crowded menu.

Step 4: Build the core business pages
Use the content editor to add and customize text, images, videos, custom fonts and uploaded files. Give every page one job.

State who you help, what you provide, where you operate and the next action. Put the primary CTA near the top.
About
Explain why the business exists and add relevant experience, credentials, team information or other trust signals.
Services or Products
Describe specific offers, outcomes, process, service area and a way to ask questions or buy. Avoid vague lists that do not tell a visitor what happens next.

Contact
Include a form, business email, phone number, hours, location and expected response time. Make phone and email links usable on mobile.
Optional pages
Add an FAQ, testimonials, portfolio, location and directions, or blog only when each page serves a real visitor need. A blog is worthwhile only if you can maintain accurate, useful updates.
Step 5: Add lead capture and trust elements
Place a contact form and a clear CTA on relevant pages. Examples include “Request a quote,” “Book a consultation,” “Schedule a demo” and “Call today.” HubSpot promotes forms, calls to action, analytics, live chat, meetings, calls and CRM-connected tools across its platform, but availability and limits can depend on the account or plan; review the controls shown in your portal. Details are available on the CMS page and builder page.
Add only truthful proof: customer testimonials, certifications, guarantees, case studies, service-area information or a map. A form tool does not by itself satisfy every privacy, consent, accessibility or industry-specific compliance obligation, so provide the notices your business requires.

Test the form before launch
- Submit it yourself on desktop and mobile.
- Confirm the submission appears in the expected HubSpot location.
- Confirm notification emails arrive.
- Check required fields, validation and error messages.
Step 6: Connect a domain or use the HubSpot subdomain
A domain is the address visitors type, such as yourbusiness.com. A subdomain is a prefix such as www or a HubSpot-assigned address. DNS is the system at your domain provider that points the address to your website.
If you already own a domain
- Open HubSpot’s domain-connection workflow.
- Enter the domain and copy the DNS records HubSpot displays.
- Sign in to the company where the domain’s DNS is managed.
- Add the exact record types and target values HubSpot provides.
- Return to HubSpot and complete verification.
HubSpot says an existing custom domain can be connected without upgrading, but you still pay the registrar’s fee for the domain itself. Start with HubSpot’s domain explanation and follow the current instructions in your account. Domain setup documentation is also available at Connect a domain to HubSpot.
If you do not own a domain
Publish temporarily on the account-generated HubSpot subdomain. The exact address is assigned by HubSpot and may resemble companyName-portalID.hubspotpagebuilder.com; do not promise a particular permanent format.
When domain verification fails
- Check for a wrong record type or a typo in the target value.
- Remove conflicting old records only when you understand what they serve.
- Confirm the domain uses the DNS provider you edited, rather than different nameservers.
- Allow time for DNS propagation and SSL issuance.
- Check whether your setup requires a subdomain instead of the root domain.
HubSpot’s marketing language and documentation distinguish general custom-domain connection from some root-domain configurations. Treat the domain setup screen’s current instructions—and your account’s plan and configuration—as authoritative.

Step 7: Preview, publish, test and improve
- Preview every page at desktop and mobile widths.
- Publish the pages from the website editor.
- Open the live address in an incognito or private browser window.
- Test menus, buttons, phone links, email links, forms and the domain.
- Review analytics after visitors arrive and improve pages based on actual behavior.
Launch checklist
- Every page has a useful browser title and meta description.
- Images have descriptive alt text and sensible file sizes.
- No placeholder copy or broken links remains.
- Business hours, phone, email and address are accurate and consistent.
- The privacy policy and other required legal links are accessible.
- HTTPS works on the published URL.
- The main CTA is visible without excessive scrolling.
- The site is usable on a phone.
After launch, HubSpot points users toward traffic analytics, Google Analytics integration and SEO recommendations. Use those tools to find pages visitors ignore, forms that fail and search queries you can answer. Add a blog only if you have a sustainable publishing schedule.
Is HubSpot the right free website platform?
Good fit
- A brochure or service website is the main need.
- Lead capture, forms and CRM records matter.
- You want hosting, editing and reporting in one hosted platform.
- You prefer no-code editing.
Consider another approach
- You need a full online store, membership system, directory or marketplace.
- You require server-level control or extensive custom functionality.
- You want maximum portability and minimal vendor lock-in.
- You expect “free” to include a registered domain and every marketing feature.
WordPress.com, Wix, Squarespace and Google Sites are comparison candidates, but their current prices and free-plan limits should be checked on their official sites before choosing: WordPress.com, Wix, Squarespace and Google Sites.
When to upgrade—or switch
Reconsider the free setup when you need advanced content controls, sophisticated testing or personalization, larger site-management capabilities, custom development, ecommerce or membership features. HubSpot’s optional AI website generator can help produce a first draft, but its current page advertises a 14-day free trial and paid-user access for repeated multi-page generation; it is not the core free workflow. See HubSpot’s AI generator page.
