You can earn money with apps that let customers route internet traffic through your connection, but the amount depends on actual demand—not your internet plan’s data allowance. Honeygain, PacketStream, and Pawns.app all offer ways to earn from sharing bandwidth, though their payout terms and other earning features differ. Before installing one, consider what traffic may use your connection, how payouts work, and whether the app fits your devices and network.
What it means to sell internet data
These apps do not sell your browsing history or hand over your internet-plan allowance. They let customers route traffic through your connection, using its public IP address. That traffic can support activities such as web crawling, research, or content delivery. In return, the app credits your account according to its rules and the traffic it routes.
Sharing is not the same as earning a fixed amount for every gigabyte your internet plan allows. Honeygain says its traffic rate is not fixed and depends on factors including location and demand. PacketStream states a per-gigabyte rate for customer traffic actually routed. Pawns.app’s published $0.20-per-GB figure is on its business SDK page, not a universal promise to consumer users.
Compare the three apps
| App | How sharing works | Platforms stated for sharing | Cash-out threshold and method | Key qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Honeygain | Unused bandwidth is used for data-intelligence tasks, including web crawling and content delivery. | Windows, macOS, Android, and Linux via Docker; no iOS. Android and macOS installation is manual rather than through their app stores. | $20 or 20,000 credits. Current listed methods: PayPal through a third-party provider or JumpTask. | No fixed traffic rate; demand, location, network type, and other factors affect traffic. |
| PacketStream | Customers route traffic through a Packeter’s connection. | Windows, macOS, and Linux via Docker; mobile sharing is not supported. | $5 minimum, paid in USD through PayPal. PacketStream says processing is within one week and charges a 3% cash-out fee; PayPal may charge extra. | $0.10 per GB of customer traffic actually routed, according to PacketStream. |
| Pawns.app | Bandwidth sharing is one earning option within an app that also offers surveys, games, and quests. | The consumer site offers iOS and Android apps; the supplied consumer-page information does not establish all desktop sharing platforms. | Withdrawals start at $5 earned. The site lists PayPal, Bitcoin, ACH, Venmo, Visa gift cards, and other gift cards. | The $0.20-per-GB rate appears in Pawns’ business SDK offer, not as a guaranteed consumer-app rate. |
Honeygain: flexible devices, variable traffic
Honeygain says its app uses unused bandwidth for data-intelligence tasks such as web crawling and content delivery. It also says partners do not know the user’s identity, while the user does not know which partner is using the connection. That does not make the activity invisible to your internet provider or remove the fact that third-party traffic uses your connection. See Honeygain’s explanation of how the service works.

Follow the download instructions on Honeygain’s getting-started page, and install only from Honeygain’s official site.
- Open dashboard.honeygain.com, select “Sign-up” or “Start earning now,” and register. A download window appears after registration.
- In the Dashboard, select “Confirm email.” Open the message titled “Please verify your email” and select “Verify email.” If verification repeats or fails, Honeygain says to log out of the Dashboard and back in.
- On Windows, select “Download For Windows.” In the installer, select “Next,” check “I accept Honeygain’s Terms of Use…,” select “Next,” launch the app, and choose “Log in.”
- On Android, download the application from Honeygain’s website, select “Open” and then “Install,” choose whether to allow notifications, accept the Terms of Use, then select “Sign up & Claim” and register by email or social login.
Traffic and earnings
Honeygain does not currently state a fixed traffic rate. Traffic depends on location, demand, network type, and how many other users are supplying bandwidth; the company may temporarily reduce traffic when supply exceeds demand. It also limits how many devices can operate on one internet connection. Its traffic-rate guidance explains why a per-gigabyte figure should not be assumed.
Honeygain says traffic is often higher during the first one to two weeks while it checks IP compatibility, fraud signals, and speed, and can decline later as supply and demand change. The company says desktop users earn 30% more than mobile-only users; this is Honeygain’s stated comparison, not a guaranteed individual result. Details appear in its explanation of traffic and earnings declines.

Payout options
Honeygain’s current help page lists PayPal through a third-party provider and JumpTask; older references to Bitcoin as a normal Honeygain payout method do not match that current list. Standard payout begins at $20 or 20,000 credits. For PayPal, request a payout, choose “PayPal,” enter the email verification code, and wait for a Tipalti registration invitation, which Honeygain says arrives within one business day. After registration, payment normally arrives in two to three business days. For JumpTask, choose “JMPT,” provide a wallet address that supports the BSC network, and enter the email verification code; Honeygain says the confirmed wallet address cannot be changed. See the current payout-method list and payout instructions.

Honeygain says this mode pays in JMPT with no minimum withdrawal limit and instant payouts without processing delay; it changes payout currency, not device performance. To return to Honeygain, use the same top-bar toggle and select “Honeygain.” Details are on Honeygain’s JumpTask Mode page.
One practical caveat: when Content Delivery is enabled, a partner accessing the same streaming service through your connection may temporarily prevent you from accessing that service.

PacketStream: a stated rate for routed traffic
PacketStream calls bandwidth sharers “Packeters.” It states a rate of $0.10 per GB of customer traffic routed through the connection—not per gigabyte included in your internet plan. Actual earnings therefore depend on how much customer traffic is routed. PacketStream says customers see the residential exit IP and approximate geography. Its share-bandwidth page describes the service and its rate.
Setup and network use
PacketStream supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, with the Linux client running through Docker; its FAQ says mobile sharing is not supported. To register, open the signup page, enter a username, email, and password, then select “Create account.” Download the Windows or macOS app, or use the Linux client through Docker, sign in, and leave the Packeter app running. Sharing occurs only while it is running. PacketStream says no inbound ports or router port forwarding are required, but the app transfers customer traffic through your connection and uses some available capacity. Closing or uninstalling it stops sharing.

The current share-bandwidth page does not provide a Linux Packeter installation command. Do not mistake commands in PacketStream’s proxy documentation for Packeter setup: those commands are for customers using PacketStream as a proxy, not people earning by sharing bandwidth.

Do not treat the business SDK’s $0.20-per-GB figure as a guaranteed rate for every consumer account. Pawns presents that rate in the context of its SDK for app developers, while the consumer site emphasizes variable earning opportunities rather than promising a universal bandwidth rate. The SDK’s platform list—Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux—is for SDK availability subject to eligibility and approval, not proof that every consumer app supports bandwidth sharing on each of those platforms.
Pawns.app’s homepage explicitly says its services are for people over 18, although a separate FAQ statement mentions parental or guardian permission for underage users. Because those statements conflict, do not assume a minor can use the service based on the FAQ alone.
Quick Recap
How to choose—and what to check before sharing
- Choose by payout terms, not headline rates. PacketStream gives a stated rate per GB actually routed. Honeygain’s traffic rate varies, and Pawns.app does not publish a universal consumer bandwidth rate. Compare thresholds, fees, payout currency, and likely demand for your location.
- Check the device you intend to use. Honeygain does not support iOS, PacketStream does not support mobile sharing, and Pawns.app’s mobile availability does not establish a fixed bandwidth rate or identical sharing features on every device.
- Consider network capacity and other users at home. Routed customer traffic uses some connection capacity. Avoid enabling a bandwidth-sharing app on a connection where added traffic could interfere with work, gaming, video calls, or a data cap.
- Understand the IP-address trade-off. A customer’s traffic exits through your residential IP. The providers’ descriptions explain their services, but they do not establish that every possible customer use is risk-free or that your internet provider permits it. Review the app terms and your ISP’s rules.
- Start with one app and monitor it. Check the app’s traffic or earnings display, your connection performance, and the provider’s payout conditions before deciding whether to keep it running. Earnings are not guaranteed, and demand can change.
