For U.S. shoppers looking back at Black Friday 2024, Target’s offers began in early November, Best Buy’s sale started November 21, Walmart promoted several holiday deal events, and The Home Depot ran select savings through November 29. The dates, prices and promotions below describe past 2024 offers, not current deals.
When did each retailer’s Black Friday 2024 deals start?

What Target advertised
Target announced an Early Black Friday Sale for November 7–9, then publicized broader Black Friday deals later in the month. Its November 21 release said deals were available through November 30 and highlighted a special three-day offer period, November 28–30. A separate announcement called November 24–30 Black Friday week, so the retailer’s own releases described overlapping event windows rather than one single start date.
Target said offers spanned home decor, kitchen, tech, toys and other categories. One stated promotion was buy two, get one free on books, movies and music with Target Circle. The promotion was membership-conditioned; the announcement does not mean every product in those categories was included.
What Best Buy advertised
Best Buy said its Black Friday Sale began Thursday, November 21, and could be shopped in stores, on BestBuy.com and in its app. Its 2024 holiday calendar presented savings as a sequence of events over the season. The sale-start announcement establishes timing and channels, not the exact inventory or price of every advertised product.

What Walmart advertised
Walmart’s October 28 holiday announcement described three deal events and named toys, tech, home, fashion and decor as categories. It specifically advertised a 65-inch Samsung DU69 4K Smart TV at $398 as a Special Buy. That was a historical price stated in the 2024 announcement, not evidence of today’s price or availability. Walmart followed up with a Black Friday and Cyber Monday announcement on November 18.
What The Home Depot advertised
The Home Depot described monthlong Black Friday savings on select products, with the company’s holiday release saying deals ran through November 29 in stores and online. Power tools and kitchen appliances were among the categories mentioned. Its November 21 holiday gift guide also covered tools, smart-home devices, appliances and home decor.

The guide described select free-tool-with-battery-or-kit offers across brands including RYOBI, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita and RIDGID. These were qualifying-product promotions: a shopper would need to verify which battery or kit qualified and which free tool was included. For cordless tools, compare the platform and battery compatibility as well as the headline offer; brand names alone do not establish that batteries work across product lines.

These announcements are useful for reconstructing timing and representative promotions, but they are not complete item-by-item scans of all four original ads. They also disclose prices unevenly, so they do not establish that one retailer was cheapest overall. A meaningful comparison requires matching the exact product and its conditions.
- Match the model or SKU. For electronics, compare the complete model number and specifications, not just screen size or brand. A similar-looking television may differ in features.
- Check the offer conditions. Confirm whether a promotion required Target Circle, a qualifying battery or kit, or another stated condition, and whether it applied to the exact item.
- Compare the final checkout amount. Account for any required bundle, membership, shipping or pickup conditions shown in the offer. A headline price alone may not describe the total cost.
- Account for timing and location. Event windows differed, and local store hours or stock could vary. The Associated Press reported store-hour details on November 27 and advised shoppers to compare prices, check price histories and read fine print: its Black Friday store-hours coverage.
The Home Depot’s holiday announcement quoted executive vice president of merchandising Billy Bastek: “At The Home Depot, we know the holidays don’t just happen – it takes doers to decorate the home, select the perfect gifts and create unforgettable memories.”
