There is no universally best virtual-assistant platform. The right choice depends on whether you want to recruit and manage a freelancer yourself, buy a dedicated managed assistant, purchase flexible hours, or send occasional tasks to a shared pool. This guide compares 13 services by hiring model, location, continuity, pricing signals, management burden, and best-fit use case.

Which type of platform do you need?
Open marketplaces
Upwork and Fiverr let you search profiles or gigs, interview sellers, set terms, and manage quality. They offer the widest choice and easiest paid trials, but recruiting, onboarding, supervision, and replacement are your responsibility.
Direct-hire networks
OnlineJobs.ph gives you access to Philippines-based candidates while leaving the employment relationship with you. It can reduce cash cost, but you must handle screening, payment arrangements, holidays, availability, and continuity.
Managed agencies
BELAY, Wishup, Wing, MyOutDesk, and Prialto add matching, contracts, billing, customer support, and—depending on the plan—replacement or backup coverage. You still need a clear brief and performance process.
Task and hour-package services
Time Etc, Zirtual, TaskBullet, and Fancy Hands sell capacity rather than a conventional hire. Dedicated packages preserve context; pooled request services trade continuity for convenience.
The 13 best platforms
1. Upwork — best overall for maximum choice
How it works: Post a role or search virtual-assistant profiles, then interview and contract directly. It supports short projects and long-term hourly relationships across generalist and specialist skills.
Strengths: Broad international talent pool, flexible pricing, direct control, and easy small paid tests.
Trade-offs: Quality varies, and you write the brief, check references, onboard, manage, and replace the freelancer. Advertised rates exclude your management time and any current marketplace fees.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Best alternative: Choose BELAY or Time Etc if you want provider-managed matching. Poor fit: Anyone unwilling to supervise a contractor.
2. Fiverr — best for defined, repeatable deliverables
How it works: Buy a listed gig for research, data cleanup, formatting, lead lists, or basic content administration.
Strengths: Clear packages, reviews, delivery dates, and an easy way to test a task.
Trade-offs: A gig is not a dedicated assistant. Check revisions, ownership, turnaround, communication, and add-on charges. It is a weak fit for inboxes, calendars, and context-heavy operations.
3. OnlineJobs.ph — best for direct Philippines hiring
How it works: Advertise or search candidates and manage the relationship yourself.
Strengths: Large Philippines-based pool and potentially low direct-hire cost for a dedicated role.
Trade-offs: You handle interviews, onboarding, payments, supervision, local considerations, internet reliability, holidays, and replacement. The cheapest rate may create the highest management load.
4. BELAY — best managed U.S. agency
BELAY matches U.S.-based virtual assistants for administrative, executive, bookkeeping, and social-media work. BELAY says U.S. VA support commonly costs about $30–$75 per hour, or approximately $1,200–$3,000 monthly for part-time support, depending on scope, hours, and experience (BELAY pricing guidance).
Matching and client support reduce recruiting work, but pricing is generally quote-based. Confirm minimum hours, contract term, assistant classification, and replacement terms. It is a poor fit for a few inexpensive errands.
5. Time Etc — best transparent hourly package
Time Etc lists monthly packages of $390 for 10 hours, $760 for 20, $1,480 for 40, and $2,160 for 60 (published August 18, 2026). Those prices imply effective rates of $39, $38, $37, and $36 per hour respectively. The company advertises U.S.-based assistants, matching, rollover on specified plans, satisfaction protection, and plan switching or cancellation; verify exact terms before purchase (Time Etc plans).
This is a useful middle ground between a marketplace and a premium agency. Minimum packages can still be wasteful for sporadic users, and dedicated does not mean unlimited instant availability.
6. Zirtual — best structured U.S.-based plans
Zirtual lists Entrepreneur at $599 for 12 hours, Grow at $899 for 20, Small Business at $1,199 for 30, and Team at $1,699 for 45 hours per month (published August 18, 2026). Effective rates range from about $50 to $37.76 per hour. It also offers outbound-calling and broader support plans (Zirtual plans).

7. Wishup — best for automation-oriented operations
Wishup markets managed, pre-vetted support with training, account management, replacement, and workflow or no-code capabilities. Its pricing page shows part-time plans beginning at $1,299 per month, a published Prime full-time tier at $1,999, Elite at $2,999, and a U.S.-based tier at $5,400 (published August 18, 2026) (Wishup pricing).

These are provider-published plan signals, not independent verification of skill. Confirm whether the displayed amount is monthly, part-time, full-time, annualized, or promotional. Simple calendar work may not justify the premium.
8. Wing Assistant — best for substantial coverage at a lower published price
Wing lists a general-VА part-time plan at $699 for 80 hours and a full-time plan at $999 for 160 hours per month (published August 18, 2026). Its page positions dedicated assistance, replacement, customer success, quality control, and a workspace application as included (Wing Assistant).
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →That is attractive for recurring volume, but verify assistant location, working-hour coverage, dedication, replacement selection, and unused-hour treatment. It is a poor fit for five occasional tasks or highly sensitive executive judgment without additional review.
9. TaskBullet — best for fluctuating demand
TaskBullet uses flexible hour buckets rather than a traditional fixed retainer and advertises a free-hours trial or introductory offer; eligibility and conditions require confirmation on the current page (TaskBullet).
Calculate the effective rate from the bucket you actually use. Ask who performs the work, where they are located, what backup exists, and how priorities are handled when requests exceed your balance. It is not ideal when one assistant must remain continuously available.
10. Fancy Hands — best for occasional simple requests
Fancy Hands assigns individual requests to a shared pool. It can suit errands, straightforward research, and low-volume delegation without a hiring commitment.

Because the assistant may change from task to task, it is unsuitable for confidential, multi-step, or context-heavy workflows. Check current request limits, task length, turnaround, revisions, and subscription rules on Fancy Hands.
11. Boldly — best premium fractional executive option
Boldly targets experienced U.S.-based support for executive assistance, scheduling, communications, and high-context work. Its premium positioning may fit an established company where judgment matters more than the lowest rate. Published pricing was not reliably available, so request a current quote at Boldly rather than relying on an unsourced number.
12. MyOutDesk — best for full-time managed staffing
MyOutDesk provides dedicated staffing and role-specific support, including administrative and real-estate functions. Its pricing guide cites $1,988 per month for a dedicated virtual professional and describes common managed full-time offshore pricing around $1,988–$3,000; treat these as indicative provider figures and verify current hours, role, location, and contract terms (MyOutDesk cost guide).
Rank #4
Full-time capacity is inefficient for intermittent work. Examine supervision, replacement, security, and the actual specialist experience of the assigned person.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches13. Prialto — best for continuity and backup coverage
Prialto uses a managed assistant pod or team. This can protect executive workflows when one person is absent and can provide process ownership and handoffs.
A pod may feel less personal than one dedicated assistant and generally costs more than direct hiring. Ask how many people are assigned, who owns the relationship, how work is handed off, and what the current quote includes at Prialto.
What does a virtual assistant really cost?
Compare models, not headline rates:
- Direct marketplaces: potentially low offshore rates or high specialist rates, plus your recruiting and management time, platform fees, and replacement risk.
- Flexible packages: Time Etc’s published $36–$39 effective hourly range includes a managed, dedicated package rather than a bare labor rate.
- U.S. managed part-time: commonly about $30–$75 per hour or $1,200–$3,000 per month according to BELAY’s guidance.
- Dedicated managed offshore: reviewed examples run roughly $699–$2,999 monthly, with hours and inclusions varying sharply.
- Premium executive support: often costs more than general administration and is usually quote-based.
- Per-request services: can look inexpensive but become costly for complex work because every request carries context and revision overhead.
Use effective hourly rate = monthly fee ÷ usable included hours. Then account for rollover rules, minimum commitments, onboarding, rework, meetings, platform fees, replacement delays, and your own supervision time.
Match the platform to the workload
- Fewer than five simple tasks monthly: Fancy Hands or Fiverr.
- Ten to 60 recurring hours: Time Etc or Zirtual.
- You want to recruit directly: Upwork or OnlineJobs.ph.
- Eighty to 160 recurring hours at lower published cost: Wing Assistant or MyOutDesk.
- Premium U.S.-based executive help: BELAY, Boldly, or Zirtual.
- Automation-capable operations: Wishup.
- Uneven demand: TaskBullet.
- Backup and team continuity: Prialto.
Tasks a VA can handle—and where caution is needed

Customer and sales support
Lead research, appointment setting, follow-up emails, customer-service inboxes, outbound calling, and basic pipeline administration.
Marketing and content

Questions to ask before paying
- Is the assistant dedicated, shared, or part of a pod?
- What happens during absence, resignation, or poor performance?
- Is replacement free, and how long does it take?
- Do unused hours roll over or expire?
- What are the minimum hours, contract term, cancellation rules, and refunds?
- Who owns work product, SOPs, and documentation?
- Who handles contracts, taxes, payments, and data-processing obligations?
- Can you interview the assistant and run a paid test?
- What timezone and response-time coverage is guaranteed?
- Who supervises quality and where are activity records stored?
Safe hiring process
- Define the work: list tasks, frequency, turnaround, examples, access needs, escalation rules, and actions the assistant may never take independently.
- Estimate volume: measure weekly hours before buying a full-time plan.
- Select the model: choose marketplace, direct hire, managed dedicated, hour bucket, or pooled requests.
- Create a realistic test: assess comprehension, accuracy, speed, judgment, formatting, and communication when blocked.
- Set security boundaries: use separate accounts, a password manager, two-factor authentication, role-based permissions, activity logs, least privilege, and immediate offboarding.
- Run a paid trial: start with a small assignment before a long commitment.
- Document the workflow: store SOPs, examples, owners, deadlines, and escalation paths in a shared workspace.
- Review after two weeks: measure quality, turnaround, rework, and management time before expanding hours.
Consider automation first for repetitive copying, calendar rules, CRM workflows, forms, spreadsheets, Zapier, Make, n8n, or AI-assisted processes with human review. A VA adds the most value through judgment, exception handling, coordination, and ownership.
Bottom line
Choose Upwork or OnlineJobs.ph when you can recruit and supervise directly; Fiverr or Fancy Hands for discrete tasks; Time Etc or Zirtual for structured U.S.-based part-time help; Wing or MyOutDesk for substantial managed capacity; Wishup for operations and automation; BELAY or Boldly for premium U.S. support; TaskBullet for variable demand; and Prialto when continuity and backup coverage outweigh the lowest price.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a virtual assistant cost?
Published examples range from candidate-specific marketplace rates to $36–$39 per hour in Time Etc packages, about $30–$75 per hour for U.S. managed support according to BELAY, $699–$999 monthly Wing plans for 80–160 hours, and premium quote-based services above those levels. Compare included hours and management obligations, not just the headline fee.
Is Upwork better than an agency?
Upwork offers more choice and direct control if you can vet and manage freelancers. An agency costs more but may provide matching, billing, supervision, replacement, and backup coverage.
Are offshore VAs reliable?
Reliability depends on communication, skill, availability, processes, and supervision—not nationality. Test the candidate, define overlap hours, verify connectivity, and document continuity arrangements.
What is the difference between a VA and an executive assistant?
A general VA usually handles repeatable administrative tasks. An executive assistant is expected to manage higher-context scheduling, communications, priorities, and judgment, which generally requires more experience and costs more.
Should I hire hourly or full-time?
Use hourly or bucket capacity when demand is uncertain or below full-time volume. Choose full-time only when recurring workload, response expectations, and utilization are demonstrable.
Can a VA access my email?
Yes, but use a separate account, least-privilege permissions, two-factor authentication, password-manager sharing, activity logs, and immediate offboarding. Restrict financial, medical, legal, and sensitive customer data unless controls and responsibilities are documented.
How do I replace a bad VA?
Ask the provider’s replacement timeline and cost before signing. With direct hires, keep SOPs in a shared workspace, use a defined trial, document performance issues, and maintain a backup plan.
What tasks should not be delegated casually?
Regulated medical or legal work, payroll, financial transactions, unrestricted customer-data access, and specialist automation require verified qualifications, confidentiality terms, data-processing controls, and clear approval boundaries.
