Why are Macy’s and Apple associated with the building?
Macy’s had been a major corporate tenant at 11 Penn Plaza for decades. City records list Macy’s-related business activity at the address, including a 12th-floor office location (New York City administrative record; New York City operations report).
Macy’s later moved a substantial part of its headquarters operations to Long Island City. Space that Macy’s no longer needed could be subleased or otherwise restructured, creating an opportunity for Apple to establish a larger New York workplace in the building. Apple entered that former Macy’s office area in 2020 and subsequently took additional space.

Is 11 Penn Plaza an Apple Store?
No. Apple’s presence described in the available reports is corporate workplace space. There is no basis for treating the address as an Apple Store, Genius Bar or customer-support center. Visitors seeking products or repairs should use an Apple retail location, such as the Fifth Avenue store, rather than arriving at Penn 11.

Is Macy’s Herald Square inside 11 Penn Plaza?
No. Macy’s Herald Square is the company’s landmark retail department store at 151 West 34th Street. 11 Penn Plaza is a nearby office property with a long Macy’s corporate history. A map search for “Macy’s” may return Herald Square even when the intended destination is an office appointment at 11 Pennsylvania Plaza.
