10 Tesla Insurance Companies to Get Quotes From (and What to Know Before You Buy)

There is no insurer that is cheapest for every Tesla owner. The best price depends on your model and trim, location, driving history, mileage, coverage and eligibility. Use these 10 companies as a quote shortlist—not a ranking—and compare personalized quotes with the same limits and deductibles.

Why the cheapest Tesla insurance company varies

A Tesla’s insurance premium can change with the vehicle’s model, year and trim, where it is garaged, who drives it, annual mileage, driving history, coverage selections and discounts. The winner can also change when you switch from a state-minimum-liability comparison to a full-coverage one. Compare the same protection and deductibles, not just the headline premium.

Published rates are useful for deciding whom to ask for a quote, but they are not offers to you. For example, GEICO says its Tesla estimates are not quotes and that actual rates vary by driver, vehicle and location. Its published estimate ranges draw on aggregated policyholder data from January and February 2026; they do not guarantee eligibility, coverage or your price. GEICO’s Tesla insurance page explains those limits.

10 Tesla insurers to include in your quote search

This is a practical shortlist assembled from insurer comparisons, not a cheapest-to-most-expensive order. Not every company is available or competitive for every driver in every state.

Company Why it is worth a quote What to keep in mind
State Farm MoneyGeek’s 2026 broad Tesla comparison found the lowest average overall rates in its dataset. That is an average across the study’s scenarios; a different state, model or coverage choice can change the result.
USAA MoneyGeek found it cheapest for minimum coverage on five of the six Tesla models it analyzed, and among the cheapest for full coverage on several models. Membership is limited to eligible military members, veterans and family members.
GEICO MoneyGeek found competitive prices across several models, including its lowest analyzed full-coverage rates for Cybertruck and Cyberbeast. Its own online estimates are not personalized quotes or guarantees of coverage.
Travelers It appeared among the lower-cost options in MoneyGeek’s broad and model-specific comparisons. Its position depends on the Tesla model and coverage scenario.
Nationwide MoneyGeek found it among the lower-cost choices for particular models and full-coverage comparisons. Check the exact model and year you own or plan to buy.
Auto-Owners It ranked well for several Tesla models in MoneyGeek’s analysis. MoneyGeek says it sells through independent agents, and availability is geographic.
American Family MoneyGeek named it the lowest-priced option for full coverage in its Model X Long Range comparison. That result applies to a particular model and study scenario, not every Tesla owner.
Progressive It appears in NerdWallet’s Tesla insurer comparisons and MoneyGeek’s Cybertruck and Cyberbeast full-coverage comparisons. Confirm the quote and policy terms available in your area.
Allstate NerdWallet includes it in its Model 3 and Cybertruck median-rate tables. The model-specific medians differ, one reason not to assume a single ranking applies across Teslas.
Farmers NerdWallet includes it in its model-specific comparisons. Use a personalized quote rather than treating a national table as your likely premium.

MoneyGeek’s figures are modeled comparisons, while NerdWallet’s page reports median monthly rates for full coverage from large national insurers by Tesla model. Their methodologies and assumptions differ, so their numbers should not be combined into one ranked list. MoneyGeek’s 2026 broad comparison, MoneyGeek’s model-specific comparison and NerdWallet’s Tesla insurance analysis are starting points for shopping, not substitutes for quotes. Regional insurers may also offer a better fit; NerdWallet recommends checking them as well.

What published Tesla insurance rates can—and cannot—tell you

The figures below are study results, not current offers to an individual driver. The MoneyGeek figures come from its 2026 analyses; differences in modeled drivers, coverage assumptions and methodology mean they should be read within each stated comparison rather than used as a direct price match against another publication.

MoneyGeek broad Tesla comparison State Farm: $36 per month for minimum coverage; $144 per month for full coverage Lowest average rates across Tesla models in MoneyGeek’s 2026 dataset.
MoneyGeek broad Tesla comparison Travelers: $48 per month for minimum coverage Next-lowest minimum-coverage average in that 2026 comparison.
MoneyGeek broad Tesla comparison Nationwide: $164 per month for full coverage Next after State Farm in the cited 2026 full-coverage comparison.
MoneyGeek model comparison Model 3 Long Range: $2,952 per year; Model S: $4,458 per year Full-coverage averages in MoneyGeek’s 2026 analysis.
MoneyGeek model comparison Cybertruck: $1,492 per year; Cyberbeast: $1,499 per year GEICO’s lowest analyzed full-coverage rates for those models in MoneyGeek’s 2026 study.

MoneyGeek notes that repair and replacement economics contribute to differences between Tesla models. The figures are not a promise that one model will cost a particular owner more or less: location, driver details, policy choices and insurer underwriting also affect a quote.

How Tesla Insurance differs from other options

Availability depends on your state

Tesla lists Insurance in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Virginia. Tesla says customers can get a quote and purchase through a Tesla Account or the Tesla app. Availability can change, so verify it directly with Tesla’s Insurance information page.

Real-time pricing can use driving data

In participating real-time markets, Tesla says premiums can reflect the vehicle, garaging location, mileage, chosen coverage, monthly Safety Score and, in selected states, use of Full Self-Driving (Supervised). Tesla describes a mileage-weighted monthly Safety Score and possible later premium changes. State, vehicle configuration, software and feature availability can affect what applies. Its real-time insurance details explain the program.

Tesla describes the product this way: “Tesla Insurance offers insurance using real-time driving behavior, including what vehicle you drive, where you live, how much you drive, what coverage you select, the vehicle’s monthly Safety Score and FSD (Supervised) usage, to determine your policy premium.”

California is an important exception

Tesla says California policyholders can receive Safety Score for educational purposes, but it does not affect their premium; Tesla’s real-time insurance is unavailable in California. Tesla also reports that the California Department of Insurance approved a 12.4% general rate increase for its California insureds with policy effective dates from August 11, 2025. That reported increase is specific to those qualifying California policies, not a nationwide increase.

Check current policy documents

Tesla’s coverage support page says some limits changed effective June 1, 2026. Check current declarations and state-specific policy documents rather than relying on an older summary of limits. Tesla’s coverage page provides its current coverage information.

How to compare Tesla insurance quotes fairly

  1. Gather the details insurers need. Have the VIN or exact year, model and trim, garaging ZIP code, annual mileage, drivers, current policy and desired start date ready.
  2. Set one coverage target. Choose the same liability limits, comprehensive and collision deductibles, and optional protections for each quote. If the Tesla is financed or leased, check lender requirements; compare any gap coverage separately.
  3. Request quotes from a mix of providers. Start with your current insurer, the 10 companies above, Tesla if available, and local or regional carriers. An independent local agent can help identify carriers that do not appear in national comparisons.
  4. Confirm eligibility and local availability. Check whether the insurer will write the policy for your location and vehicle before treating it as an option. USAA has membership restrictions; Auto-Owners sells through independent agents, according to MoneyGeek.
  5. Compare the contract as well as the premium. Review exclusions, repair options, claims access, discounts, renewal conditions and the actual policy language. GEICO notes that general descriptions do not change the insurance contract and that terms and availability vary.
  6. Evaluate Tesla’s data-based pricing separately. If Tesla Insurance is available, decide whether you are comfortable with driving-data use and potential monthly score-related premium changes; apply the California distinction if relevant.
  7. Save the details and shop again when circumstances change. Record each quote’s date, limits and deductibles. Requote at renewal or after changing address, vehicle, mileage or drivers, since premiums and insurer appetite can change.

How to choose after the quotes arrive

Pick the best match for your needs from quotes built on equivalent coverage—not the insurer with the lowest number in a national average. A lower premium is useful only if the policy’s limits, deductibles, exclusions, repair arrangements and claims process work for you. If two quotes are close, compare those terms and any discounts or renewal conditions before deciding.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
