The right choice depends on whether you want cash, gift cards, motivation, or crypto—and how much health data, effort, or financial risk you accept.
The reward details below were checked August 16, 2026. Rates, caps, catalogs, redemption thresholds, country availability, and payout methods can change inside an app, so confirm the current terms before spending time or money.

How walking-reward apps work
- Track: The app reads phone motion data, Apple Health, Google Fit, or a wearable.
- Validate and sync: Anti-fraud checks, internet access, battery settings, and background permissions can affect which steps count.
- Credit: Steps become points, coins, marketplace credits, or progress toward a challenge. Bonuses may come from surveys, referrals, games, shopping, or sponsored programs.
- Redeem: You may face a minimum balance, identity or payment verification, a processing delay, country restrictions, or a manual collection step.
There is no reliable universal dollar-per-step rate. Economics depend on country, membership tier, daily caps, bonuses, available gift cards, and whether the app validates every step. Treat the base walking reward as a modest bonus; do not buy a phone, wearable, subscription, or cryptocurrency solely to chase it.

The 10 apps
1. Evidation
Best for: Users comfortable connecting health apps or wearables and completing activities beyond walking.
Evidation awards points for steps, sleep, surveys, health programs, and other healthy activities. Its official pages say points can be redeemed for cash and describe connected-health and research participation: Evidation’s activity and cash explanation and healthy-habits page. Because surveys and programs are part of the model, it is not simply a pedometer that pays a fixed amount for every 1,000 steps.
Trade-off: You may share broader health information than with a step-only app. Review connected-app permissions, program terms, account deletion, and data controls before linking an account.
2. WeWard
Best for: A broad mix of cash options, partner offers, challenges, games, and leaderboards.
WeWard says users can redeem Wards for PayPal or Venmo cash, gifts, offers, and donations: official WeWard site. The company also reports more than 30 million walkers across 29 countries, $50 million transferred, and a roughly 24% increase in steps; those are company claims, not independent guarantees. Cash-out rules and step conversion can differ by country and account.
Trade-off: The app may reward engagement with offers and challenges as well as walking. Do not treat a headline maximum such as “up to $1,000 a year” as a typical result.
3. CashWalk
Best for: People who prefer gift cards and can remember a daily app visit.
CashWalk’s FAQ says users earn one coin per 100 steps, with earning advertised up to 20,000 steps per day. Coins can be exchanged for cards from retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, and Starbucks: CashWalk. The app says it can work indoors and outdoors without GPS, subject to iOS Motion & Fitness or Android Physical Activity permissions.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Important failure mode: You must manually collect the coin box. Walking can be recorded without the reward being collected. CashWalk also says collected coins expire one year after collection, so do not leave a balance untouched.
4. Winwalk
Best for: iPhone users wanting a straightforward pedometer and gift cards.
The U.S. App Store listing states one coin per 100 steps, capped at 100 coins daily, with Apple Health synchronization and support for indoor, outdoor, and treadmill steps: Winwalk listing. Coins exchange for gift cards; PayPal rewards are available only in supported countries.
Trade-off: The listing says availability is limited to selected countries and warns that VPN use or multiple accounts can lead to suspension. A U.S. listing does not mean every reward is available to every U.S. account.

5. Sweatcoin
Best for: Users who value marketplace offers or understand crypto wallets and volatility.
Sweatcoin primarily issues an in-app currency for products, subscriptions, travel vouchers, partner offers, and challenges: Sweatcoin marketplace. Sweatcoins are not dollars. $SWEAT is a separate cryptocurrency; the company’s help pages say eligible users need both the Sweatcoin app and Sweat Wallet, with current minting rules tied to a step window and plan: $SWEAT rules and Sweatcoin/SWEAT distinction.
Trade-off: Token value changes, and wallet, identity, network-fee, and eligibility issues can apply. The company says it does not sell users’ location data and uses movement validation; treat those as company statements rather than independent audits.
6. StepBet
Best for: People who want a financial commitment to hit personalized goals.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →StepBet places users in games based on individualized step targets. Participants who complete the goals split the pot. StepBet says it retains 15% of the gross pot for administration, referees, transaction fees, and hosts: StepBet FAQ.
Payouts normally use PayPal. The support page says U.S. users without PayPal can request a check, with a $10 fee deducted from the points balance: StepBet check option. You cannot send the payout directly to a debit or credit card.
Risk: Missing a goal can mean losing the entry stake. This is a paid accountability challenge, not a free walking-rewards app or guaranteed income.
7. Macadam
Best for: Users seeking a cash-oriented alternative to gift cards.
Macadam’s terms say its iPhone and Android app connects to a phone pedometer, converts steps into points, and may let users exchange points for money, promotional codes, or charitable support: Macadam terms. A functioning pedometer, internet service, recent-enough phone, and Macadam account are required.
Trade-off: The terms do not establish one universal U.S. point-to-dollar rate. Verify the live U.S. cash-out method, minimum threshold, processing time, and privacy policy before relying on it.
8. Moneywalk
Best for: Readers looking for another step-reward option to investigate.
Moneywalk is a provisional inclusion here. Before downloading, confirm the official publisher, current U.S. app-store presence, active step rewards, redemption method, minimum threshold, expiration policy, and recent payout history. Do not assume that a current-looking listing proves that rewards are still available or that gift cards are offered in your country.

9. PaidToGo
Best for: Users who specifically want a subscription or challenge structure.
PaidToGo should be considered only after checking its current subscription price and payout terms. Calculate net value over 30 days: rewards redeemed minus the subscription and the value of time spent on offers. If ordinary walking rewards cannot exceed the fee under your expected activity, a free app is the better choice.
10. STEPN
Best for: Crypto-native users who understand wallets, digital assets, and token-market risk.
STEPN is not a simple free pedometer. Its movement-to-reward model is tied to digital sneakers and a crypto ecosystem, so acquisition costs, token prices, network fees, wallet security, and platform rules can materially change the outcome. It belongs in a crypto comparison, not alongside free gift-card apps without that distinction. Verify the current official product and U.S. availability before committing funds.
Which app fits your goal?
- Cash options: Start with Evidation or WeWard, then verify the current redemption threshold and payment method in your account.
- Gift cards: CashWalk is straightforward if you will manually collect coins; Winwalk is an alternative for supported iPhone countries.
- Accountability: Choose StepBet only if you can afford the stake and accept that missing goals can cost money.
- Marketplace or crypto: Sweatcoin is the less direct cash option; STEPN is for experienced crypto users, not casual walkers.
- Testing strategy: Use one cash-oriented app and one gift-card or motivation app for 30 days, then compare actual redeemed value—not advertised maximums.
Tracking, privacy, and troubleshooting
Permissions and syncing
- On iPhone, allow Motion & Fitness and, where applicable, Apple Health access.
- On Android, allow Physical Activity and review battery-optimization settings that can stop background counting.
- Keep internet access available for syncing and redemption.
- Check whether indoor and treadmill steps are supported; Winwalk says they are, while each app’s validation rules can differ.
- Confirm the app’s daily reset time and phone time zone.
When steps do not credit
- Open the app and force a sync rather than assuming background data has posted.
- Check that the correct Apple Health, Google Fit, or wearable source is connected.
- Disable battery restrictions for the app if background counting stops.
- Look for a manual coin-box or daily-claim control.
- Keep screenshots of the step total, balance, and redemption confirmation before contacting support.
Protecting health data
Grant step data only when possible. Evidation’s model includes surveys, connected health data, programs, and research participation, so it deserves more privacy scrutiny than a step-only counter. Review the privacy policy, data deletion and export controls, location access, advertising choices, and any payment-verification requirements before signing up.
How to maximize value without wasting time
- Carry the same phone or connected device consistently.
- Open apps that require manual collection before the daily reset.
- Redeem before points expire and save confirmation emails or screenshots.
- Treat surveys, referrals, shopping, and games as separate paid activities; do not count them as earnings from walking.
- Do not use VPNs, duplicate accounts, or other methods prohibited by an app’s terms.
- Never stake money or buy crypto you cannot afford to lose.
- Recalculate net value after subscriptions, entry fees, taxes, and the time required to complete offers.
Are walking-app rewards worth it?
They can be worthwhile as a small behavioral nudge or occasional gift card. They are usually not worthwhile as a wage. The most honest test is your own 30-day ledger: record verified steps, time spent, fees, rewards redeemed, and any data or privacy trade-off. Keep an app only if the net benefit and motivation justify those costs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do walking apps really pay cash?
A few offer cash-out methods such as PayPal or Venmo, but many provide gift cards, discounts, points, or marketplace credits instead. Check the specific app’s redemption method and threshold.
Can I use several walking apps at once?
Often, multiple apps can read the same Apple Health or Google Fit total, but caps, validation rules, battery use, manual claims, and privacy exposure differ. Test one cash app and one additional app before adding more.
Do these apps work on treadmills?
Some do. Winwalk’s listing says it supports treadmill steps, but every app has its own permissions and validation rules.
Are walking rewards taxable?
Tax treatment depends on the reward type, amount, and your circumstances. Keep payout records and consult a qualified tax professional or current IRS guidance.
What if my steps do not sync?
Check activity permissions, Apple Health or Google Fit connections, battery restrictions, internet access, daily reset timing, and any manual claim button. Save screenshots before contacting support.
