Intuit Assist is not one standalone chatbot. It is a generative-AI layer embedded in Intuit products, where it can use product context to answer questions, surface insights, draft recommendations, and—in some workflows—propose or perform actions. What you see depends on the product, account, plan, location, and rollout stage.
Intuit introduced Assist on September 6, 2023, for TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp. Its current branding increasingly overlaps with broader “Intuit AI” or “Intuit Intelligence” features, and Intuit’s apps can also be accessed through ChatGPT and Claude. The practical benefit is context; the practical risk is trusting generated output too much in financial or business decisions.
What Intuit Assist actually is
Intuit Assist is an AI assistant built into Intuit’s financial and marketing software. You ask a question or describe a task in ordinary language, and the product can respond using relevant account, tax, business, customer, or campaign context. Intuit describes the experience across TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp.
That makes it different from a blank chat window. A general chatbot can explain bookkeeping in the abstract; an embedded assistant may answer a question about your overdue invoices or draft a reminder using your existing records. The feature set is not identical across Intuit products, however, and “can do” may mean explain, recommend, draft, preview, schedule, or execute depending on the workflow.

From the 2023 launch to the current product
Intuit announced Assist on September 6, 2023, positioning it as a generative-AI assistant for consumers and small businesses. The launch emphasized three levels of help:
- Answers: responding to questions in natural language.
- Insights: finding patterns or issues in the user’s data.
- Actions: preparing recommendations, drafts, or workflow steps.
Early rollout was uneven: TurboTax had broader availability, while QuickBooks, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp experiences were described as beta or limited release. Current QuickBooks documentation often uses the broader name “Intuit AI,” so a current interface may not match screenshots or descriptions from 2023.
Intuit also announced that its TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp apps were available in ChatGPT for logged-in Free, Plus, and Pro users in the United States on March 5, 2026 (Intuit announcement). On April 23, 2026, it announced availability in Claude, including for Enterprise customers (Intuit announcement). Those integrations do not make Intuit Assist a general-purpose chatbot; they are another way to reach Intuit-powered workflows.

What it can do in each Intuit product
| Product | Typical assistance | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|
| TurboTax | Explain tax concepts, guide filing, compare standard deduction and itemizing, and connect users with a human expert when needed. | It assists with the return; it does not remove the taxpayer’s responsibility to review facts and results. |
| Credit Karma | Suggest ways to earn rewards, surface potentially relevant cards, and present financing options for an expense. | Recommendations can reflect a commercial marketplace and are not fiduciary advice or approval guarantees. |
| QuickBooks | Answer profit-and-loss questions, identify overdue invoices or cash-flow pressure, find top-selling products or unusual spending, and draft invoice reminders. | Intuit says generative AI does not calculate the numbers in QuickBooks and should not be the sole basis for important decisions. |
| Mailchimp | Create campaign drafts, tailor copy to audiences, use connected product information, and suggest follow-up steps. | Review claims, prices, dates, audience permissions, links, and compliance settings before sending. |
TurboTax
At launch, Intuit said Assist could understand an individual tax situation, explain tax-law concepts, guide the filing process, and help compare choices such as the standard deduction and itemizing. It could also connect a customer with a human expert.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The current TurboTax online page advertises “AI-Powered Intuit Assist.” When checked, federal do-it-yourself online products were displayed at $0 to $149, with state costs additional; the price varies by product, filing situation, promotion, and date (TurboTax pricing page). A generated answer can be incomplete if you omit income, deductions, filing-status, or jurisdiction details. Self-employment, rental property, cryptocurrency, stock compensation, foreign income, and multistate returns deserve particular scrutiny.
Credit Karma
Credit Karma’s Assist examples included finding ways to earn more rewards, suggesting potentially relevant credit cards, and presenting financing choices for an unexpected expense. That can be convenient, but a personalized suggestion is not automatically an independent recommendation. Credit Karma operates a financial-products marketplace, so compare annual percentage rates, fees, rewards conditions, penalties, eligibility, and approval terms on the underlying offer.
Rank #3
The core Credit Karma proposition is generally free to consumers, but the sources do not establish a separate universal Assist fee. Product terms and marketplace economics vary by offer (Credit Karma).
QuickBooks
QuickBooks examples include questions such as “Which invoices are overdue?”, “What is affecting cash flow?”, and “Which products sell best?” Assist can also highlight anomalies and prepare customized invoice reminders. Intuit later described Intuit Assist for QuickBooks as a “done-for-you” experience for U.S. QuickBooks Online customers that combines AI with access to human experts (QuickBooks announcement).

The accounting boundary matters. Intuit’s support documentation says generative AI can uncover insights, answer business questions, or propose work, but is not used to calculate the numbers in QuickBooks. It warns that generated answers can be wrong and should not alone drive important business or financial decisions (QuickBooks support). Check the underlying ledger and report, and distinguish profit from cash in the bank before acting.

Some AI features may be beta and available at no additional cost to selected users; Intuit says availability and pricing can change. There is no single universal Assist subscription price established by the cited materials.
Mailchimp
Mailchimp’s launch examples included creating a campaign from existing brand information, producing segment-specific copy, using QuickBooks product or service data, and suggesting follow-up actions. This is most useful for a first draft, not a final approval.
AI can invent product claims, discounts, deadlines, or inventory details. Confirm the audience, subject line, links, prices, dates, unsubscribe controls, and any consent or privacy requirements before scheduling or sending. Mailchimp’s current AI-feature price is not established by the cited sources; check the official product site for current plans (Mailchimp).

How the technology is intended to work
Launch-era explanations described Intuit’s GenOS architecture as an orchestration layer: it adds customer-specific context to a request, sends the enriched request to a language model, and applies another accuracy or editing layer to the response. That is a useful model of the design, not a complete public specification of today’s production systems.
In practical terms, general-purpose language generation is combined with Intuit data, product tools, permissions, and workflow rules. More context can make an answer more actionable, but it also puts the system closer to sensitive financial records and commercial recommendations.
Accuracy, privacy, and safety
Generated text is not proof
Intuit has described safeguards and the use of product data, but that does not mean the assistant cannot make a mistake. Verify every important number against the tax return, bank statement, ledger, contract, or product terms. Confident wording is presentation, not evidence.
Data access is part of the trade-off
The value of Assist comes from context, which means considering what data and connected accounts the relevant product can process. Intuit says customer information is stored in a single Intuit Account, with an exception for TurboTax tax-preparation data, and provides download and deletion controls subject to product terms and legal exceptions (privacy overview; privacy controls). Review the specific product notice, permissions, connected services, and retention terms rather than assuming one setting governs every workflow.

When to involve a person
- Ask a qualified tax professional about unusual, high-value, business, investment, foreign, or multistate tax issues.
- Use an accountant when categorization errors, cash-versus-accrual treatment, or material financial statements are involved.
- Compare complete credit and financing terms instead of accepting a marketplace ranking.
- Have a human approve marketing claims and the final audience before a campaign is sent.
Intuit Assist compared with ChatGPT or Claude
| Criterion | Intuit Assist | ChatGPT or Claude |
|---|---|---|
| Primary strength | Intuit-domain financial and marketing workflows. | General-purpose reasoning, writing, and cross-app tasks. |
| Context | Intuit account and connected product context, subject to permissions. | User-provided context and available integrations, including Intuit apps. |
| Actions | Product-specific drafts, recommendations, and workflow actions. | Broader tools, with permissions and integrations varying by setup. |
| Best fit | People already keeping tax, bookkeeping, credit, or marketing data in Intuit. | People wanting a broader assistant beyond the Intuit ecosystem. |
Neither is categorically more accurate. The deciding factors are data access, workflow fit, permissions, commercial context, and how carefully you verify the result.
Who should use it?
- Good fit: Existing Intuit users who want account-specific explanations, summaries, drafts, or repetitive workflow help.
- Poor fit: Anyone seeking guaranteed tax, legal, investment, or accounting advice; a fully independent adviser; deterministic calculations; or a general assistant unrelated to Intuit products.
Intuit Assist is most compelling as an AI control layer over data you already keep in Intuit—not as a replacement for an accountant, tax professional, financial adviser, or final business review.
