What TSMC reported for the quarter
On October 8, 2026, TSMC released its September monthly revenue report. Reuters calculated the company’s July–September quarterly revenue from its monthly announcements at approximately NT$1.49 trillion, or US$46.71 billion, compared with NT$989.92 billion in Q3 2025. Reuters called that a 50% year-over-year increase in its article text. The 51% in the headline is consistent with a different rounding of the approximate underlying comparison; the reported totals and period are the clearest way to understand the result.

September alone brought in NT$511.86 billion, up 54.6% from September 2025, Reuters reported. That is a one-month comparison, not the growth rate for the full quarter.

Reuters linked the quarterly growth to surging demand for AI applications. That makes AI a reported demand driver, but the available figures do not show what share of TSMC’s revenue increase came from AI-related products. They also do not establish that AI was the sole cause of the higher sales.

There is relevant preceding-quarter context, but it should not be mistaken for a Q3 disclosure. In its July 16, 2026 Q2 release, TSMC CFO Wendell Huang said, “Our business in the second quarter was supported by strong demand for our leading-edge process technologies.” The company reported that advanced technologies—defined as 7-nanometer and more advanced—accounted for 77% of Q2 wafer revenue. Neither statement supplies a Q3 technology mix or an AI-specific revenue breakdown.
How the result compared with TSMC’s forecast
In July, TSMC forecast Q3 revenue of US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion. Reuters’ reported Q3 figure of US$46.71 billion was above that range. TSMC’s Q2 release also forecast Q3 gross margin of 65%–67% and operating margin of 56%–58%; those were outlook figures, not reported Q3 results.

Revenue is not the same as profit
The October 8 update was a monthly revenue report, not a full earnings release. It did not provide Q3 profit or margin figures, new forward guidance, or a Q3 breakdown by business or technology. Reuters said TSMC was scheduled to report Q3 earnings the following week. Until those figures are released, the revenue total alone cannot show how much profit the company made or whether margins matched its July outlook.

Q2 gross margin was 67.7%, operating margin 60.3%, and net profit margin 55.6%. These are Q2 results; they should not be read as Q3 profitability.

Risks that can affect future results
A strong quarter does not remove the risks TSMC identifies in its company disclosures. It lists semiconductor industry cycles and market conditions, demand for and supply of manufacturing capacity, competition, significant changes in customer orders, maintaining technology leadership, managing capacity, natural disasters or other production disruptions, and currency movements among factors that could affect results. These are disclosed risk factors, not predictions that any particular event will occur.
