The Max Cyber Monday promotion referenced in the original headline offered eligible new and returning U.S. subscribers six months of the ad-supported plan for $18 total. But its redemption window ran from November 25 through December 2, 2024, so it is not a live deal as of September 5, 2026.
The phrase “ends tonight” applied only to Monday, December 2, 2024. Contemporaneous coverage reported that the promotion was subject to early termination and automatically renewed after the discounted period.

What the $18 Max deal included
| Term | Historical offer |
|---|---|
| Service | Max with Ads |
| Promotional period | Six months |
| Total price | $18 |
| Effective monthly cost | $3 |
| Reported regular price at the time | $10 per month |
| Geography | United States |
| Redemption dates | November 25 through December 2, 2024 |
This was a subscription promotion, not a permanent price cut, a lifetime subscription, or six months of an ad-free plan. Ads were part of the discounted tier.
Using the December 2024 price cited in the original reporting, six months at $10 would have cost $60. The $18 promotion therefore represented a nominal $42 saving, or about 70% off. That comparison is historical: it should not be used as Max’s current price in 2026.

Who was eligible?
The reported audience was eligible new and returning U.S. subscribers. That wording does not mean every former Max customer qualified. Account status, billing method, geography and prior promotional history could affect eligibility.
Customers billed through a cable company, app store, streaming platform or another third party might not have been eligible for a direct Max promotion. If a deal appeared during checkout but failed at redemption, the sensible first checks were the account’s current status, billing provider and the promotion’s stated terms—not repeated payment attempts.
Anecdotal contemporaneous discussion also illustrated that canceling an existing subscription did not necessarily make an account immediately eligible if access remained active through the existing billing period. That was an individual account experience, not a universal Max rule. The discussion is available here.

The automatic-renewal warning
The six-month period did not end the subscription automatically. Unless the customer canceled, the account renewed at the regular applicable rate after the promotion. The original coverage described that rate as $10 per month in December 2024, but that figure is not a verified current Max price.
For any future Max promotion, check the checkout screen for:
- the exact promotional end date;
- the renewal date;
- the post-promotion price;
- the plan tier and advertising terms; and
- which company will handle billing and cancellation.
If you sign up for a discounted subscription, add a calendar reminder several days before renewal. Confirm cancellation on the billing page and save the confirmation email or screen. Do not assume that canceling in Max will stop charges from a separate third-party provider.

Why old pages still say “ends tonight”
The original deal article was updated at 8:05 p.m. Eastern on December 2, 2024. Search engines and syndicated pages can continue displaying that headline long after the promotion ends. One later-circulating copy preserved the old urgency, but its continued appearance does not prove that the offer remains active. This is an example of the syndicated wording.

Check the official Max website for the current subscription offer and read the price and renewal terms shown at checkout. Current pricing, plan names, eligibility rules and promotions can change, and the historical $18 deal should not be used as a current buying reference.
Before subscribing, use this checklist:
- Confirm the offer is displayed on the official Max checkout page.
- Verify whether the plan includes ads.
- Confirm that the titles you want are currently available.
- Check the total promotional cost and renewal price.
- Make sure you are not already receiving Max through a bundle or provider.
- Set a reminder before the first renewal.
A current offer is worth considering only when its terms are clear and the subscription does not duplicate access you already have. A deal that looks cheaper but renews unexpectedly can cost more than the original promotion saves.
