Verdict: ExpressVPN’s U.S. checkout currently shows a two-year introductory subscription with four bonus months. Basic costs $83.72 upfront for 28 months (about $2.99 per month when averaged), then renews at $99.95 annually. The page checked on August 18, 2026 displayed a maximum saving of 80%, not 81%, so verify your own checkout total before paying.
What the current ExpressVPN deal includes
The promotion is a prepaid introductory term, not a $2.99 monthly billing plan. Sales tax may be added. After the initial 28 months, the subscription renews annually; ExpressVPN says renewal pricing can change with advance notice. See the official checkout page and subscription terms.

Is the “up to 81%” claim real?
The deal itself is genuine: the checkout page offers discounted introductory pricing and four additional months. However, the official U.S. page checked August 18, 2026 showed “up to 80%” for Basic. The 81% headline could reflect another comparison price, location, checkout version, rounding method or an earlier promotion. Treat it as an unconfirmed headline rather than a guaranteed percentage.
Basic’s $2.99 figure is calculated by spreading $83.72 over 28 months. The transaction is a single upfront charge of $83.72 plus applicable tax, not 28 monthly payments.

- 10 simultaneous connections.
- Lite Protection blocking ads, malicious sites and adult sites.
- 10 MB per month of private email relay.

- Unlimited ExpressKeys password manager.
- 100 MB per month of private email relay.

What every tier includes
ExpressVPN’s feature material lists 256-bit AES encryption, leak protection, a kill switch, Lightway protocol support, unlimited data and apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile devices and browsers. Connection counts are simultaneous-use limits, not necessarily limits on how many devices can have the app installed. A VPN does not legalize unlawful activity, guarantee anonymity or promise access to every streaming service; availability varies by service, location, network and local law. Refunds, trials and cancellation traps
Eligible first-time customers who buy through ExpressVPN’s website may request a full refund within 30 days. Apple App Store and Google Play purchases are handled by those stores and do not qualify for ExpressVPN’s 30-day money-back guarantee; a three-day mobile trial may be available instead. Renewal purchases are not covered, previous refund recipients may be ineligible, and a promotion can exclude refunds if its terms say so. Review the refund policy, terms of service and trial page before checkout. Extending or upgrading an existing subscription does not automatically create a new guarantee period.
