The Move 2 was listed at $336 (a $113 reduction from $449), while the Roam 2 was $134 (down $45 from $179). That promotion has ended; Sonos’ US pages showed the Roam 2 at $179 and the Move 2 at $499 when checked on August 18, 2026.
The Memorial Day offer was genuine, but it was a time-limited 2025 promotion—not a discount readers should assume is still available. The coverage focused on the Sonos Move 2, Sonos Roam 2 and bundles containing those speakers.

Engadget’s article was updated May 26, 2025. Its headline product card showed the Move 2 at $336, although another line in the same article said $339. The stated arithmetic—$449 minus $113—supports $336, so $339 appears to be a copy or price-update error.

#1 Best Overall
- The new acoustic architecture replaces Move's single tweeter with two, unlocking a higher-fidelity stereo soundstage with crisp vocals and detailed instruments. With deep, dynamic bass powered by the precision-tuned woofer, you'll feel the emotional charge of a live performance.
- With automatic Trueplay tuning, Move 2 continually optimizes the sound for its surroundings. So, no matter where you are or what you play, you get the best listening experience.
- Listen twice as long as with the previous generation. All the acoustic updates work in concert for increased efficiency, giving you up to 24 hours of playback on a single charge.
- Shock absorbent materials protect against accidental drops, and the IP56 rating ensures spills, splashes, rain, dirt, and dust don't dampen your listening experience.
- Use the built-in handle to bring your music from one place to the next. When the battery needs a boost, set Move 2 on the included Wireless Charging Base, upgraded with a detachable power cable and more compact adapter. Charge on the go with any USB-PD power supply.
Sonos Move 2: better for a patio, yard or large room
The Move 2 is the larger speaker. Sonos rates its battery for up to 24 hours, an estimate that varies with volume, settings, environment, connection type and use. It weighs 6.61 pounds, so its built-in handle and battery make it movable, but not genuinely lightweight travel gear.
- Protection: IP56 water and dust resistance. This is not the same as a submersion rating.
- Connections: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and Apple AirPlay 2, plus voice control. AirPlay 2 requires a compatible Apple device and Wi-Fi.
- Charging: A charging base is included.
- Input: Line-in capability is available with the relevant accessory.
- Best fit: A backyard, patio, living room or other space where fuller output and longer claimed battery life matter more than carrying weight.
The 2025 discount was meaningful because it cut more than $100 from the price cited at the time. At the current $499 price shown by Sonos on August 18, 2026, buyers should not describe the Move 2 as 25% off without checking for a new promotion.

Sonos Roam 2: the genuinely grab-and-go option
The Roam 2 weighs 0.95 pounds—less than one pound—and is designed for bags, travel, parks, beaches and poolside listening. Sonos quotes up to 10 hours of battery life, also dependent on usage conditions.
- Protection: IP67; Sonos says it can be submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. That is a stronger water-resistance specification than the Move 2’s IP56 rating, although IP tests cover different conditions.
- Connections: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2 and Apple AirPlay 2, with voice-control availability varying by country and language.
- Charging: A USB-C cable is included, but a compatible USB-C power adapter is sold separately. Sonos also lists a Roam Wireless Charger at $49.
- Best fit: Buyers who value minimal weight and water protection over maximum volume or bass authority.
Sonos’ US Roam 2 page showed $179 on August 18, 2026. The black model was listed on backorder with an estimated August 24, 2026 shipment when inspected, so availability should be confirmed before ordering.

Choose the Roam 2 when portability is the priority
Its sub-one-pound body is suitable for carrying in a bag, and IP67 protection is useful around splashes or brief accidental submersion. It is the lower-cost entry into Sonos’ portable range, provided 10 hours of claimed playback and a separately purchased power adapter meet your needs.
Choose the Move 2 when coverage and endurance matter
The Move 2 is the more appropriate choice for filling a larger indoor or outdoor area, moving between rooms or using a charging base. Its 6.61-pound weight makes it a poor fit for hiking or long-distance carrying.

- Delivers seriously big stereo sound and deep bass in a take-anywhere design
- Up to 24 hours of playback and easy charging with included Wireless Charging Base.
- Optimized power management keeps your battery going longer, and swapping in a replacement is quick and easy.
- Drop-resistant durability plus waterproof and dustproof protection (IP67).
- Stream over WiFi with your Sonos system at home, and stream with Bluetooth anywhere.
How Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work in practice
Both speakers can play over Bluetooth away from home and connect to Wi-Fi for Sonos features after setup. The Move 2 requires initial setup through the Sonos app and Wi-Fi before Bluetooth playback. The Roam 2 is similarly intended to use Wi-Fi at home and Bluetooth when away.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBluetooth-only use should not be assumed to provide every Sonos function. Wi-Fi enables the broader Sonos ecosystem and AirPlay 2; AirPlay requires a compatible Apple device and Wi-Fi. Voice services depend on country and language availability. Buyers seeking a simple speaker with no app or network setup should consider conventional Bluetooth alternatives instead.

Historical bundles and accessories
Engadget reported these bundle examples during the 2025 sale:
- Two Roam 2 speakers for $268.
- A Roam 2 plus Move 2 for $479.
- A Roam 2 bundled with an OtterBox case.
Those prices and availability were specific to the Memorial Day promotion and are not current offers. Sonos’ Roam 2 page listed an OtterBox case at $39.95 but showed it out of stock when checked, while the Roam Wireless Charger was listed at $49. The Move 2’s charging base is included; other adapters or line-in accessories may cost extra.
Current status and buying checklist
The Memorial Day 2025 promotion has ended. Sonos’ US pages showed $179 for the Roam 2 and $499 for the Move 2 on August 18, 2026. Sonos displayed free shipping, 30-day returns and a price-match promise subject to terms, but those policies and stock conditions should be verified at checkout.
Recommended Free Tools
- Buy the Roam 2 if you need a lightweight, water-resistant travel speaker and already use—or want to join—the Sonos system.
- Buy the Move 2 if you need longer claimed battery life, a larger sound presentation, line-in capability or a charging base for a patio, yard or room.
- Reconsider either model if you want a straightforward Bluetooth-only experience, need an included USB-C power adapter, or are shopping outside the US where pricing and services differ.
- Do not treat “up to” battery figures as guaranteed runtimes, and do not call the Move 2 waterproof; its official rating is IP56 water and dust resistance.
For readers comparing brands rather than joining Sonos, Bose, JBL and Ultimate Ears offer Bluetooth-focused alternatives, while Apple’s HomePod mini is a stationary smart-speaker option rather than a battery-powered portable model.
