Samsung’s permanent Galaxy phone trade-in service did come to Europe through France, but it was announced on January 14, 2025—not in 2026. The newer European announcement, dated January 13, 2026, concerns Samsung-certified refurbished phones. As of August 18, 2026, Samsung’s French Shop offers both a purchase-linked trade-in discount and a separate way to sell an existing Samsung phone without buying another device.
Those routes have different partners, deadlines and financial risks. The online estimate is provisional: inspection can reduce the value and trigger a later charge.

What Samsung actually launched
Samsung’s permanent Galaxy trade-in program was announced first for France and South Korea on January 14, 2025. Samsung said eligible Galaxy owners could trade in a device even without purchasing a new one, with Likewize named as the initial operating partner. The announcement described France as the first European pilot market, not proof that every European country would receive identical terms. Availability and eligibility remain country-specific. Samsung’s launch announcement lists the original scope.
The genuinely new European development in 2026 was Samsung’s expansion of its refurbished-phone program to France, Germany and the United Kingdom. France uses the name Reconditionné Premium par Samsung; Germany and the UK use Certified Re-Newed branding. That is a route for buying an inspected refurbished phone, not the launch of the original trade-in service. Samsung’s January 2026 announcement says the program initially starts with Galaxy S25-series devices.

The three routes now visible in France

Do not confuse mobile Trade in: Offre de reprise with Samsung’s separate Trade up take-back promotions for televisions and appliances. Samsung’s mobile page and Trade up page describe different services.
How the French purchase-linked trade-in works
- Choose the new product. Start with an eligible Galaxy phone, tablet or connected watch on the French Samsung Shop.
- Identify the old device. Enter its brand, model and condition, then answer the diagnostic questions. The live estimator controls current eligibility; the 2025 launch list is historical only.
- Review the provisional value. Samsung applies the estimated value, plus any applicable product-specific promotional bonus, immediately in the shopping cart. Samsung says up to three devices can be combined in the relevant French Evollis flow.
- Wait for the shipping label. Samsung’s FAQ says the prepaid label should arrive by email within 48 hours of order confirmation.
- Send the old device. In this purchase flow, the stated deadline is seven calendar days after receiving the label.
- Wait for inspection. Evollis diagnoses the phone; Samsung’s FAQ states a result can take up to 72 working hours in the purchase flow.
- Accept or reject a revision. If the final assessment is lower, you have five calendar days to respond. No response may allow Evollis to validate the revised value automatically.
The terms above are those Samsung currently surfaces for its French Shop and should not be assumed to apply in Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or French overseas territories. The Evollis service is described as tied to Metropolitan France.
The financial catch: an estimate is not a guaranteed discount
If inspection finds a lower value than the estimate, Samsung’s French FAQ describes two choices:

- Accept the lower value: you are charged the difference between the estimated and final trade-in amounts.
- Reject it: Samsung charges back the estimated trade-in amount, including any applicable bonus that reduced the purchase price, and the old phone is returned under the stated process.
If you never ship the old phone within the seven-day period, Evollis can also charge an amount equal to the estimated trade-in value and associated bonus. A trade-in discount therefore behaves more like a conditional credit than a permanent coupon.
Condition mismatches can include cracked glass, a non-working display, battery or water damage, missing parts, an incorrect model or storage capacity, or an account lock. Samsung says some damaged devices may receive only a minimum value of at least €1, but the exact diagnostic rules depend on the current model-specific conditions. Do not treat “any condition” language as a promise of the quoted amount.
How the no-purchase sale differs
Samsung’s current French page separately describes a partner-operated route for selling an existing Samsung smartphone without buying a new product. The sequence is straightforward:

- Get a condition-based estimate.
- Accept it and send the phone by the stated deadline.
- Wait for the partner’s final inspection and value.
- Receive payment by bank transfer within 48 working hours after final agreement, according to Samsung’s FAQ.
The 2025 launch announcement named Likewize for the standalone program, while the current purchase-linked page names Evollis. Treat those as potentially different routes or an operational change; Samsung’s current page is the controlling source for the transaction you are starting.

- Back up photos, messages, files and authenticator data.
- Sign out of Samsung and Google accounts.
- Disable device-finding and other anti-theft locks.
- Remove the SIM and microSD card.
- Perform a factory reset.
- Photograph the front, back, edges, screen, cameras and identifying information before the reset where practical.
- Package the phone securely, retain the receipt and save tracking details.
- Send accessories only when the instructions specifically require them.
These steps protect your data and give you evidence of the phone’s condition if the inspection result is disputed. Samsung explicitly instructs customers to back up data and reset the device before sending it. See the current French instructions.
Eligibility: use the live estimator, not an old list
At launch, Samsung listed Galaxy S23, S22, S21 and S20 series phones, plus Galaxy Z Fold5/Fold4/Fold3 and Z Flip5/Flip4/Flip3. That list is useful historical context, not a current guarantee. Samsung changes eligible models, storage variants, condition rules and bonuses by country and promotion. Check the live valuation interface on the day you order.

The purchase flow covers Samsung smartphones, tablets and connected watches subject to product eligibility. The three-device limit cited by Samsung applies to the relevant French Evollis purchase flow, not automatically to every market or promotion.
What if you return the new phone?
Samsung says that exercising the French Shop’s legal withdrawal right reconciles the trade-in discount with the returned purchase. If the old phone has already been sent, it is handled under the stated return conditions rather than allowing you to keep the discount. Samsung’s consumer information refers to a 14-day withdrawal period from receipt of the new product. That period is a French Shop term and may differ elsewhere.

Samsung trade-in makes sense when
- You are already buying a new Galaxy from Samsung.com.
- A temporary trade-in bonus materially improves the quote.
- Convenience, prepaid shipping and an immediate discount matter more than maximizing proceeds.
- The phone is in accurately declared, good condition.
A private sale may be better when
- You own a recent flagship with strong second-hand demand.
- The Samsung quote is low or no bonus is available.
- You can manage buyer messages, payment, shipping and fraud precautions.
- The device is unlocked and unusually clean cosmetically.
An independent refurbisher may be better when
- You want cash without purchasing a Samsung product.
- The device is older or from another brand.
- You want to compare several transparent grading and guaranteed-quote policies.
Samsung does not publish one universal trade-in price. The result depends on model, storage, condition, country and promotion. Compare the final, risk-adjusted proceeds—not just the headline estimate.

What the 2026 refurbished expansion means
Samsung’s refurbished expansion is a separate way to lower the cost of owning a Galaxy. Samsung says certified renewed devices receive in-house inspection, more than 100 quality tests, genuine Samsung parts, current software, recyclable packaging and warranty coverage comparable to a new Galaxy, subject to market terms. These are Samsung’s stated program features, not a guarantee that Samsung itself refurbishes every individual device.
On April 22, 2026, Samsung France also announced a Samsung Partner Refurbisher Program with Recommerce and introduced premium refurbished versions of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 in France. Samsung’s French announcement explains that partner model.
Bottom line for French shoppers
France was the first European market named for Samsung’s permanent Galaxy trade-in program, but the service began in January 2025. In 2026, the new European headline is about refurbished phones, not a newly launched trade-in system. Use Samsung’s trade-in route when convenience and a promotion outweigh the possibility of a higher private-sale price. Before submitting, verify the live quote, condition rules, deadlines and chargeback terms—and keep proof of the phone you shipped.
