Updated Aug. 16, 2026. NVIDIA’s pre-earnings setup is fundamentally strong but unusually demanding. The company’s fiscal first quarter produced record revenue of $81.615 billion, while its $91 billion fiscal second-quarter outlook already sits close to the latest outside consensus. That means the stock may need more than a routine beat on Aug. 26: investors are likely looking for a higher forward outlook, durable Blackwell demand, resilient margins and evidence that the Vera Rubin transition will extend growth.
The supplied market snapshot is from Aug. 18, after this article’s cutoff, so an exact Aug. 16 closing price, intraday high and split-adjusted all-time-high comparison should not be asserted here. The operating evidence behind the rally, however, is clear in NVIDIA’s reported results and guidance.
When NVIDIA reports next
NVIDIA will report results for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, on Wednesday, Aug. 26. Written CFO commentary is expected at approximately 1:20 p.m. Pacific, followed by the conference call at 2 p.m. Pacific (5 p.m. Eastern), according to NVIDIA’s investor-relations announcement.
The report covers fiscal Q2 2027. Investors will compare the actual result with company guidance, third-party estimates and—most importantly—the outlook for fiscal Q3.

The numerical hurdle for fiscal Q2
| Measure | NVIDIA guidance | Zacks consensus* | Zacks high estimate* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $89.18B–$92.82B, based on a $91.0B midpoint ±2% | $91.71B | $93.07B |
| EPS | No company EPS guidance cited | $2.09 | $2.13 |
*Zacks figures were captured from its detailed-estimates page on the research date, using 10 revenue estimates and 12 EPS estimates. Estimates can change before the release; the page does not make these figures interchangeable with every analyst’s accounting basis.
Consensus revenue of $91.71 billion is only modestly above NVIDIA’s $91 billion midpoint. A small revenue beat could therefore be insufficient if investors have positioned for a larger upside surprise and a raised next-quarter forecast. EPS must also be compared on the same basis: NVIDIA reported both GAAP and non-GAAP figures last quarter, while estimate providers may use an adjusted measure.
What NVIDIA actually reported last quarter
| Metric | Fiscal Q1 2027 |
|---|---|
| Revenue | $81.615 billion |
| Year-over-year revenue growth | 85% |
| Data Center revenue | $75.2 billion |
| Data Center year-over-year growth | 92% |
| GAAP gross margin | 74.9% |
| Non-GAAP gross margin | 75.0% |
| GAAP diluted EPS | $2.39 |
| Non-GAAP diluted EPS | $1.87 |
| Fiscal Q2 revenue outlook | Approximately $91 billion, ±2% |
These figures come from NVIDIA’s fiscal Q1 2027 results. GAAP EPS and non-GAAP EPS are different measures; neither should be compared with an estimate until the estimate’s accounting definition is confirmed.

Why the AI-investment case remains credible
Data Center growth is the financial anchor
Data Center revenue reached $75.2 billion, up 92% year over year. Under NVIDIA’s previous reporting structure, Data Center compute revenue was $60.4 billion, up 77%, while Data Center networking revenue was $14.8 billion, up 199%. The networking result matters because AI deployments require high-speed interconnects, switches and complete systems in addition to accelerators.

NVIDIA is moving to a framework built around Data Center and Edge Computing. Data Center will be split between Hyperscale and ACIE—AI clouds, industrial and enterprise—while Edge Computing includes PCs, gaming, workstations, AI-RAN, robotics and automotive. The new presentation may clarify the infrastructure opportunity, but historical comparisons will not necessarily be clean for every category.
Blackwell and Vera Rubin create the next debate
Investors are assessing whether Blackwell demand is still supply-constrained or beginning to normalize. NVIDIA has also announced the Vera Rubin platform, including the Vera CPU and BlueField-4 STX, as infrastructure for agentic AI. The announcement supports a future product cycle, but it does not by itself prove that Vera Rubin contributed material fiscal-Q2 revenue. The key question is whether customers are buying current Blackwell systems while preparing for Rubin, or delaying purchases during the transition.

What to watch in the Aug. 26 release
Revenue quality and customer mix
- Whether growth is broad across hyperscalers, AI clouds, enterprise and industrial customers.
- Compute versus networking contribution to Data Center growth.
- Whether complete systems and networking are expanding the revenue base beyond individual chips.
- Any discussion of customer concentration and the durability of hyperscaler capital spending.
Forward guidance
Fiscal-Q3 guidance may matter more than the backward-looking Q2 number. A company can beat Q2 and still disappoint if management merely maintains an outlook that investors expected it to raise.
Gross margin
NVIDIA guided to approximately 74.9% GAAP and 75.0% non-GAAP gross margins for Q2, each with a 50-basis-point range. Margin movement can reveal product mix, system-ramp costs, advanced-packaging or supply pressure, pricing power and the effect of unavailable China sales.
China and export controls
NVIDIA said its Q2 outlook assumed no Data Center compute revenue from China. That is a specific guidance assumption, not a statement that every NVIDIA product or business has no China exposure. Any upside from renewed shipments would need to be weighed against continuing regulatory uncertainty.

Capital returns
The company authorized an additional $80 billion for repurchases and raised its quarterly dividend from $0.01 to $0.25 per share in the Q1 release. An authorization is not the same as completed repurchases, and buybacks can support per-share results without proving that operating growth will persist.
Four ways the market could interpret the report
| Q2 result | Forward guidance | Possible interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Beat | Raised | Strongest bullish combination |
| Beat | Maintained | Could disappoint if the market expected an increase |
| Miss | Raised | Investors may focus on future growth, but the reaction is uncertain |
| Miss | Cut or cautious | Clearer evidence that expectations or demand are resetting |
This framework is not a price prediction. It explains why the share reaction can diverge from the headline revenue number.
What could undermine the rally
- Hyperscaler capital-expenditure growth slows or customers question returns on AI infrastructure.
- Blackwell demand decelerates sequentially, or customers defer orders while waiting for Vera Rubin.
- Product-transition costs, supply constraints or a less favorable systems mix push gross margin below expectations.
- Export controls remove additional addressable demand.
- Custom accelerators, AMD, cloud-provider chips or alternative architectures take share.
- High expectations leave little room for an execution error even if absolute growth remains strong.
- Operating expenses rise faster than revenue, reducing earnings leverage.
Historical momentum in context
| Period | Revenue | Year-over-year growth | Data Center revenue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q4 FY26 | $68.127B | 73% | $62.3B |
| Q1 FY27 | $81.615B | 85% | $75.2B |
| Q2 FY27 guidance | $91.0B midpoint | Not stated | Not separately guided |
The move from Q4 FY26 to Q1 FY27 was approximately 20% sequentially. The $91 billion Q2 midpoint implies approximately 11.5% sequential growth from Q1, a calculation from reported figures rather than a separate company growth promise. Q4 FY26 context is from NVIDIA’s fiscal 2026 results.

How investors can manage the event risk
A single NVIDIA share position offers the most direct upside and downside, but it also concentrates exposure in one company and one earnings event. A semiconductor ETF such as SMH or SOXX spreads risk across chip and equipment companies; broader funds such as QQQ or VGT provide less concentrated NVIDIA exposure. Waiting until after earnings, staging purchases or limiting position size can reduce event risk. Options add implied-volatility, time-decay and post-earnings volatility-collapse risks and require specialized understanding.
