Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold reportedly disappeared from the company’s U.S. online store within five minutes of its January 30, 2026 launch. That claim comes from a South Korean report cited by SamMobile—not from a Samsung sales release. Samsung confirmed the $2,899 price and launch date, but has not disclosed how many phones were offered.
What Samsung confirmed about the U.S. launch
Samsung announced the U.S. launch on January 27, 2026, with sales beginning January 30 at $2,899. The U.S. configuration is an unlocked 512GB model in Crafted Black. Samsung said the phone would be sold through Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores.

The TriFold opens into a 10-inch display, uses two hinges instead of the single hinge on a conventional book-style foldable, and measures approximately 3.9mm at its thinnest point when unfolded. Samsung also lists a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a 200MP main camera, an IP48 rating and a manufacturer test of 200,000 multi-folding cycles. The thickness figure excludes the camera and pre-installed protective film, and the cycle test is not an independent guarantee of real-world durability. According to a South Korean report cited by SamMobile, Samsung’s U.S. online inventory sold out within five minutes of going on sale. Samsung’s own announcement confirms the date, price, configuration and sales channels, but does not state “sold out in five minutes,” publish an order count or identify the launch allocation. What “sold out” means here
The evidence supports a sellout on Samsung’s U.S. online store. It does not prove that every TriFold assigned to the United States—including store inventory, demonstration units or any other channel—was gone in five minutes. Samsung’s launch language covered Samsung.com and Experience Stores, while the secondary report specifically described the online store. At that point, the phone was not broadly listed through carriers or ordinary retail partners.
The missing number: how many phones were available?
A sellout measures demand against available supply. Without the initial allocation, five minutes cannot be converted into a sales total. Samsung has not disclosed whether the first U.S. shipment contained hundreds, thousands or another number of devices, and the available reporting provides no order or revenue breakdown.

Three explanations remain possible:
- Strong genuine demand: buyers were willing to pay nearly $3,000 for a new form factor.
- Scarcity-driven urgency: a very small allocation created a buy-now effect.
- Both: an enthusiastic niche audience met unusually limited supply.
The defensible conclusion is intense early interest, not proof of mass-market demand or a large number of phones sold.

The device combines a phone-sized folded form with a tablet-like open workspace. Two folding sections, dual hinges, a large flexible display and specialized reinforcement add engineering and manufacturing complexity. Samsung also positions it as a pioneering premium product and launched it in limited quantities.

Those factors explain the price, but they do not establish value for every buyer. A 10-inch screen may replace some tablet tasks, while a separate phone-and-tablet setup can offer greater flexibility and potentially lower replacement risk. Financing advertisements should not obscure the full $2,899 price, before taxes and any financing charges.

What buyers should consider before chasing a restock
- Confirm the total price rather than relying on a monthly-payment headline.
- Assess whether a 10-inch display replaces enough tablet use to justify the premium.
- Recognize that a first-generation dual-hinge design has more mechanical and display complexity than a single-fold phone.

As of the latest verified page status available on August 18, 2026, Samsung’s U.S. purchase page listed the unlocked 512GB Crafted Black TriFold as “Out of Stock” and “SOLD OUT.” The page directs visitors to Samsung Experience Stores to see the device but gives no confirmed restock date. Stock can change, and a store demonstration does not guarantee sale inventory. Monitor the official purchase page rather than assuming an unofficial marketplace listing has legitimate U.S. warranty coverage.
