Which Samsung phone is T-Mobile offering?
The offer is for the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, an entry-level Galaxy A-series phone rather than a flagship. T-Mobile store listings show a 128GB Blue Black version in at least some locations, but check the storage, color and stock for the specific store or order you are considering. T-Mobile’s store pages describe an offer tied to adding a qualifying line, but store-specific listings do not guarantee nationwide availability. T-Mobile’s New York store listing is one example.

How the “free” offer works
You finance the handset through T-Mobile, and the company applies promotional credits to the device payments over 24 months. If you receive every scheduled credit under the offer’s terms, they can offset the device cost. The credits are monthly rather than an instant discount, so the first bill may not look like a zero-cost phone.

T-Mobile store snippets have displayed a credit amount of up to $300.99, which does not match Samsung’s $169.99 March 2026 MSRP for the unlocked 128GB model. That displayed maximum should not be taken as the phone’s retail value or as a guaranteed credit. Check the live promotion details and installment agreement for the actual device price, monthly payment and credit amount before accepting the offer. T-Mobile’s store listing contains the displayed offer language.
Who may qualify?
The reported offer centers on adding a new line, not simply upgrading an existing line. The plan names below were reported for the offer, but eligibility can depend on the current promotion, account and sales channel. T-Mobile store pages use broader wording such as “qualifying plan” or “most plans”; that does not mean every plan qualifies.

The plan list and eligibility descriptions were reported by SamMobile. T-Mobile’s store listing says the device offer depends on a qualifying new line. Neither broad wording nor another customer’s eligibility confirms that your account qualifies. The available offer description does not establish that a trade-in or port-in is required; do not assume either is part of this promotion unless the live terms say so.
What you pay—and how to judge the real cost
Separate the handset promotion from the cost of keeping the required service. Before ordering, find the device’s pre-credit price and installment amount, the monthly credit, upfront tax and fees, and the plan charge for the full period you expect to keep the line. The exact service price and your taxes depend on your account and location, so a single total would be misleading.

Use this comparison: 24 months of qualifying service plus taxes and fees, minus promotional credits, compared with an unlocked phone bought outright plus the cost of a wireless plan you would choose anyway. The unlocked Galaxy A16 5G’s $169.99 March 2026 MSRP is a useful handset-price reference, but the better choice depends largely on whether you already want the T-Mobile service and need the line.

The credits are scheduled across 24 months. If you cancel the qualifying line, move to an ineligible plan, fall out of good standing or otherwise lose eligibility, future credits may stop. You can then be responsible for the remaining financed device balance under your installment agreement. A phone that is usable or unlocked is not the same thing as a promotion whose credits continue after you leave.

For illustration only, leaving after 12 months could mean roughly half of the scheduled credits have not yet arrived. That is not an official payoff calculation: the amount due depends on the actual financing balance, credits already applied and your agreement. Ask T-Mobile for the payoff and promotion terms tied to your account before making a change.
Is the Galaxy A16 5G a good fit?
It is aimed at people who want a basic 5G Android phone for everyday tasks such as calls, messages, streaming, navigation and social apps. The offer is less compelling if you need demanding gaming performance, advanced photography or premium materials. Consider the phone’s capabilities as well as the two-year service commitment; a low device price does not make an unsuitable phone a good value.
What does “best-selling” mean here?
SamMobile reported that the Galaxy A16 ranked fifth overall in a 2025 global best-selling-phone shipment list, making it the highest-ranked Samsung model in that list. This is a global shipment ranking as reported by SamMobile, not evidence that the A16 was Samsung’s best-selling phone in the United States or the best phone for every buyer. Affordable A-series phones can appeal to a much larger price-sensitive market than premium flagships, which is one reason their shipment volumes can be high. SamMobile’s report attributes the ranking to the 2025 list.
Check these terms before you order
- Confirm that your account qualifies for the specific promotion and that adding a new line—not upgrading an existing one—meets its terms.
- Check the exact eligible plan, device storage and color, stock, installment amount and total promotional credits in your checkout flow.
- Review the upfront sales tax, device connection charge and any down payment or shipping fee, along with the monthly service cost.
- Read when credits begin, how long they last, and what happens to the remaining device balance if you cancel, change plans or lose eligibility.
- Compare the cost of the required service over the time you expect to stay with T-Mobile against buying the unlocked phone and selecting another compatible service plan.
