Clippers turn selected moments from longer videos into short social posts, and some are paid according to how those clips perform. In a report published by AOL on October 12, 2026, 22-year-old Londoner Eknoor Singh said he earns at least £10,000 a month—more than £120,000 a year at that monthly rate. That is one person’s reported income, not an audited figure or a typical beginner’s expectation.
What does a social media clipper do?
A clipper takes a client’s longer video—such as a podcast, performance, or promotional video—and selects moments to reshape into short vertical posts. The work can include finding a hook, editing the excerpt, and publishing it on platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

Singh told AOL he looks for moments that are funny, quick to watch, and engaging. The goal is not simply to cut a video shorter: the clip needs to make sense on its own and encourage people to watch or seek out more of the creator’s work.
Jimmy McLoughlin, host of the Jimmy’s Jobs of the Future podcast, described clips as “almost like trailers for the main events.” This captures one reason clients use them: short extracts can introduce a longer video to people who might not otherwise find it.

How do clippers make money?
In the model described by AOL, clients pay people to make and distribute clips, with some arrangements tying earnings to views. Singh put it this way: “The more views a clip gets, the more money I make.” The report says clippers may earn up to $3 (£2.30) per 1,000 views, but it does not establish that as a standard rate or guaranteed payment schedule.
Singh also recalled earning $300 from an Instagram clip featuring Dua Lipa. That is his reported result for one clip, not evidence of a predictable return for other videos.
Not every arrangement is necessarily view-based. The report describes a broader paid clipping model but does not set out standard contracts, fixed fees, payment thresholds, or typical rates. Anyone considering a job should confirm in writing how compensation is calculated, which views count, when payment is due, and whether any costs or platform fees apply.

How much do clippers earn?
The headline figure comes from Singh’s claim that he earns at least £10,000 monthly. AOL’s October 2026 report presents that as more than £120,000 a year, but includes no audited accounts, earnings methodology, representative sample, or independent data showing how commonly clippers make that amount.
Another person in the report, 24-year-old Ethan Weems, said he earns at least $1,000 a month as side income making short videos for YouTuber and podcaster Caleb Hammer. These are individual accounts, not a reliable earnings benchmark.
The report also includes a direct warning from social-media consultant Lia Haberman: “The vast majority make little to nothing.” That cautions against treating viral success stories as a dependable side-hustle formula. Results can depend on the client, the terms of the deal, whether clips attract views, and the time spent finding and editing usable moments.

What makes clipping time-consuming?
Finding a strong excerpt can take much longer than exporting a finished clip. Streaming-industry analyst Devin Nash warned that clippers “watch hours and hours of content, and they just live in that world”. A creator’s long video may contain only a few moments worth turning into standalone posts, so the work involves selection as well as editing.

The report gives examples of the potential scale clients hope to reach, including McLoughlin’s account of long plays attracting close to 50,000 views while clips reached “millions,” and Boxabl founder Galiano Tiramani’s estimate that the firm had “probably a billion views” of clips. Those are attributed statements, not independently audited campaign metrics.

Do you need expensive equipment?
Singh said he needs a mobile phone and a decent internet connection. That is the equipment account given in the profile; it does not establish a universal minimum, nor does it support a claim that every clipper needs a professional camera, lighting kit, or computer. Before spending money, find out what a prospective client expects and whether your current setup can meet the required format and delivery schedule.

AOL’s October 2026 report names Reddit and Discord communities and sites including Clipping Culture, Vyro, Whop, and Kick as places that connect clippers with clients. It says the named sites charge companies a fee. These are examples from that report, not vetted job recommendations or confirmation of current availability, eligibility, fees, or payment terms.
Clipping Culture founder Evan Stanfield said the company had connected more than 340,000 clippers with brands. The report also says Clipping Culture lists Capital Records, Universal Music Group, and HBO Max. Those are claims carried in the article and do not establish that a particular applicant will find work or secure one of those clients.

- Check whether a listing is for paid work, a trial, or a performance-based arrangement.
- Get the rate, view-counting rules, payment timing, and any intermediary fee in writing.
- Confirm what you are allowed to edit, post, and reuse, and who owns the finished clips.
- Check that the client and the account or channel you are expected to post from are legitimate.
What about copyright and platform monetization?
Get clear permission for the source footage, music, and any other third-party material included in a clip. Permission to use a client’s video does not automatically resolve rights to music or other material within it, and it does not guarantee that a platform will allow monetization.
YouTube says its reused-content monetization review is separate from copyright enforcement: a channel can meet copyright requirements and still fail reused-content guidance if it makes only minimal changes to other people’s material. YouTube also says commercial use requires the relevant rights to third-party visual and audio elements. Check YouTube’s channel monetization policies and the platform’s current rules before publishing.
For a paid clipping job, clarify whether the client has the necessary rights and whether the clipper is permitted to post the material on the specified account. Keep written records of the permissions and terms rather than assuming that a client’s brief settles every rights question.
