For most people, a “PayPal username” means the handle in a PayPal.Me link, such as paypal.me/YourHandle. Sign in, open Account Settings, then Profile or PayPal.Me profile to view it. If someone wants to send a standard PayPal payment, they may instead need your confirmed PayPal email address, associated phone number, or QR code.
What “PayPal username” can mean
PayPal does not present one identical username field for every account and country. The phrase can refer to several different identifiers:

- PayPal.Me handle: The memorable name after
paypal.me/, such asExampleName. - PayPal.Me link: The complete public payment address, such as
paypal.me/ExampleName. - Searchable username: An identifier that may help people find you inside PayPal when your privacy settings allow it.
- PayPal email address: The confirmed email linked to your account. People often call this a username, although it is technically an email address.
- Login credentials: Your password and one-time security codes. These are private and must never be shared.
PayPal.Me pages may display your link, name or business name, username, profile image or logo, and other permitted profile information. See PayPal’s PayPal.Me terms.
Find your PayPal username on the website
- Go to PayPal and sign in.
- Select the profile icon or Settings.
- Open Account Settings.
- Select Profile and look for PayPal.Me or PayPal.Me profile.
- Copy only the text after
paypal.me/if someone asked for your username, or copy the complete link if they need a clickable payment address.

Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
- To report your Lost or Stolen Physical Visa Card, call Customer Service 24/7 at 1 (888) 524-1283 to cancel your Gift Card as soon as you can. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
Find it in the PayPal app
- Open the PayPal app and sign in.
- Tap your profile picture or account menu.
- Open the area labeled Profile, Account Settings, or PayPal.Me.
- View and copy your PayPal.Me link or handle, using the share option if available.
Mobile navigation differs by market and app version. PayPal confirms that PayPal.Me preferences can be managed in the app, but the exact labels may change.
Which PayPal detail should you send?

How people can find you on PayPal
Depending on your settings, PayPal search may use your name or business name, email address, phone number, or username. Review these controls at Profile → Data and privacy → Search privacy. PayPal documents this path and the available discovery settings in its Search privacy help page.
If search is disabled, someone may still pay you using a known email address, phone number, direct PayPal.Me link, or personal QR code.

If the sender cannot find you
- Check the spelling of the email address, phone number, or handle.
- Confirm that your email address or phone number is verified and attached to the intended account.
- Review Search privacy settings.
- Send the complete PayPal.Me link instead of relying on in-app search.
- Use a payment request or invoice when appropriate, or scan a QR code when you are together.
- Before payment, verify the displayed name, profile image, or business information.
If a link opens to the wrong profile, stop and confirm the recipient before sending money.
Can you change a PayPal username?
PayPal says a PayPal.Me link or username cannot be changed once created, and each account can have only one link. Handles are assigned first-come, first-served; PayPal lists alphanumeric naming rules, a 20-character maximum, and restrictions on offensive, defamatory, or reserved names.

You can turn a link off or hide it, but doing so does not release the handle for someone else. Contact PayPal if you need to ask about an exceptional deletion or change; approval is not guaranteed.

You do not need PayPal.Me to receive money. Share your confirmed email address, associated phone number where supported, payment request, or QR code. PayPal.Me availability depends on your country or region. If available, you can create a link through PayPal.Me; PayPal’s FAQ says setting one up is free, while transaction charges depend on the payment, account, country, and currency.

Personal and business use
PayPal’s terms distinguish personal PayPal.Me links for friends-and-family payments from commercial links for customer payments. Business-account PayPal.Me links are treated as commercial, and a personal link should not be used as a substitute for appropriate business payment tools. Sellers, freelancers, and organizations should review the PayPal.Me terms and consider a PayPal Business account.
