How to Compare HCLTech With Other Indian IT Services Companies (FY2026 Guide)

The fairest way to compare HCLTech with Indian IT-services peers is to use the same fiscal year, currency and reporting scope for every company, then examine scale, constant-currency growth, profitability, business mix and deal activity separately. On that basis, HCLTech reported FY2026 revenue of $14.7 billion and 3.9% constant-currency growth; those figures sit between the larger TCS and Infosys totals and the smaller Wipro total, but they do not by themselves establish which company is best.

The comparison below uses company-reported results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. It is a framework for disciplined analysis, not a stock recommendation or a claim about customer satisfaction, delivery quality or future returns.

Set a like-for-like comparison before looking at rankings

Indian IT companies publish several measures that sound similar but cover different things. “Revenue” may mean total company revenue, services revenue or an individual segment. “Growth” may be reported in U.S. dollars or in constant currency. “Operating margin” may be a group measure or an IT-services measure. Write the scope beside every number before comparing it.

  • Use one fiscal year. The figures in this guide are for the year ended March 31, 2026 (FY2026).
  • Keep the currency consistent. The headline figures below are in U.S. dollars unless a company reports a required segment figure in another currency.
  • Match the scope. Compare total-company revenue with total-company revenue, and an IT-services segment with another IT-services segment.
  • Separate actual results from expectations. A contract booking or management forecast is not recognized revenue.
  • Preserve the metric label. Record whether a number is gross revenue, EBIT margin, operating margin, TCV or constant-currency growth instead of silently renaming it.

This discipline prevents a large company with a broader business mix from appearing automatically stronger than a smaller specialist, and it avoids treating a currency effect as operating growth.

Why fiscal-year alignment matters

All four companies in the numeric comparison report a year ending March 31, which makes FY2026 a practical common period. A quarterly result, a trailing-twelve-month figure or a calendar-year number would answer a different question. If you add another peer later, write down its reporting period and do not blend it into the table until the period is genuinely comparable.

Also record whether a company has changed a segment definition. A reclassification can make a year-over-year comparison look stronger or weaker even when the underlying work has not changed. The safest practice is to use the company’s current annual release and its stated prior-year comparison, then note any disclosed change.

1. Compare scale, but treat it as a starting point

Revenue indicates the economic scale of each business, including its ability to support large delivery networks and diversified client portfolios. It is not a complete measure of competitiveness because companies differ in business mix, accounting presentation and exposure to subsidiaries or software products.

Company FY2026 reported figure Scope and qualification
HCLTech $14.7 billion revenue Company-reported headline revenue for FY2026.
TCS $30.017 billion revenue Company-reported headline revenue for FY2026.
Infosys $20.158 billion revenue Company-reported headline revenue for FY2026.
Wipro ₹926.2 billion gross revenue Gross revenue is reported in Indian rupees; Wipro also reports a separate IT Services segment in U.S. dollars.

Sources: HCLTech FY2026 results, TCS FY2026 results, Infosys FY2026 results and Wipro FY2026 results.

TCS therefore has the largest FY2026 headline revenue among the four, followed by Infosys, HCLTech and Wipro on the measures shown. That ordering is a scale observation only; it is not a normalized ranking of margins, growth quality or shareholder value.

Scale can matter to a buyer that needs coverage across many countries, a large bench of specialists or the capacity to run a complex, multiyear program. It can matter to an investor seeking diversification across industries. Yet scale can also conceal slower divisions, lower-margin work or a sizeable product business. Treat revenue as the first column in a scorecard, not as the scorecard itself.

2. Compare growth in constant currency first

Constant-currency growth removes much of the distortion created when currencies move against the U.S. dollar. Use it as the primary cross-company growth measure, then show reported-dollar growth as a separate fact rather than mixing the two.

Company and measure FY2026 result How to read it
HCLTech total revenue 3.9% constant-currency growth; 6% year-over-year growth in U.S. dollars Two different presentations of total revenue growth.
HCLTech services revenue 4.8% constant-currency growth Services-only scope; do not compare directly with a peer’s total-company rate.
HCLTech IT and Business Services 3.7% constant-currency growth One HCLTech services segment.
HCLTech Engineering and R&D Services 9.8% constant-currency growth A separate HCLTech services segment with a different growth rate.
Infosys total revenue 3.1% constant-currency growth Total-company rate, making it the closest scope match to HCLTech’s 3.9% total-company rate.
Wipro IT Services 1.6% constant-currency decline IT Services segment, not Wipro’s gross-revenue growth.

The HCLTech, Infosys and Wipro figures come from their FY2026 releases: HCLTech, Infosys and Wipro.

What HCLTech’s growth mix says

HCLTech’s 4.8% constant-currency services growth was not uniform. Engineering and R&D Services grew 9.8%, while IT and Business Services grew 3.7%. A company-level rate can therefore conceal which activities are expanding and which are slower. When reviewing later periods, track the segment trend rather than relying only on the consolidated percentage.

This distinction is useful when the comparison question is strategic. A buyer looking for product engineering may care more about the Engineering and R&D Services trend than the consolidated rate. A buyer seeking a broad infrastructure or business-process program may focus on IT and Business Services. Neither preference makes one percentage universally superior.

Keep executive language separate from the measured result

HCLTech chief executive C. Vijayakumar described the 3.9% constant-currency result as “superior revenue growth” in the company’s release and said annualized Advanced AI revenue crossed $620 million in the fourth quarter. “Superior” is management’s characterization, not an independently established ranking. The $620 million statement is an annualized revenue figure for that offering, not total company revenue or recognized FY2026 sales.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When quoting such statements, retain the speaker and the period. Do not turn an annualized run rate into a full-year booking, and do not compare it with a peer’s AI figure unless the peer uses the same definition.

3. Read operating margins with their original labels

Margins are useful only when the numerator, denominator and business scope match. Do not create a precise league table from the following figures because the companies use different labels and scopes.

Company FY2026 margin measure Important limitation
TCS 25% operating margin Company-reported operating margin; scope and definition should be checked in the release before normalizing against another company.
HCLTech 17.2% EBIT margin EBIT is not the same label as TCS operating margin. HCLTech notes that FY2026 excludes the one-time impact of new labour codes for certain displayed metrics.
Wipro 17.2% IT Services operating margin IT Services segment measure, not necessarily Wipro’s entire-company margin.
Infosys Not stated in the FY2026 figures cited here Do not fill the cell with an estimate; retrieve a directly comparable official measure before ranking.

Sources: TCS, HCLTech and Wipro.

The apparent equality between HCLTech’s 17.2% EBIT margin and Wipro’s 17.2% IT Services operating margin does not prove equal profitability. One is an EBIT measure and the other is a segment operating-margin measure. A sound comparison either uses identically defined metrics or reports the differences explicitly.

How to make a margin comparison responsibly

  1. Copy the exact label from each release: EBIT, operating margin, adjusted operating margin or segment operating margin.
  2. Identify the denominator: consolidated revenue, services revenue or a segment’s revenue.
  3. Check whether exceptional items, labour-code effects or other one-time items are excluded.
  4. Compare only after the scopes are aligned; otherwise present the figures side by side without ranking them.

Margin also needs context. A business investing heavily in engineering, cloud platforms or new AI offerings may show a different margin profile from a mature outsourcing portfolio. The reported percentage is evidence about that year, not a complete diagnosis of cost efficiency or future pricing power.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Examine business mix and stated capabilities

Two companies with similar revenue can have very different exposure to services, engineering, software and end markets. HCLTech reports three segments:

  • IT and Business Services
  • Engineering and R&D Services
  • HCLSoftware

HCLTech describes capabilities spanning AI, digital, engineering, cloud and software. Its investor overview lists financial services; manufacturing; life sciences and healthcare; technology and services; semiconductor; telecom and media; retail and consumer packaged goods; mobility; and public services. These are stated areas of activity, not proof that HCLTech delivers better outcomes than a peer.

For each company, create a mix sheet with the same questions:

  1. What portion of revenue comes from services versus products or software?
  2. Which industries are large enough to affect the consolidated result?
  3. Are engineering, cloud, cybersecurity, data or artificial-intelligence offerings reported as segments, subsegments or marketing categories?
  4. Does a growth rate reflect a fast-growing niche inside a flat core business?
  5. Are acquisitions, divestitures or currency movements changing the apparent mix?

Use the HCLTech investor overview for its segment and industry descriptions, then consult each peer’s annual report for equivalent detail. Do not infer delivery quality, implementation success or customer satisfaction from a capability list.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Business mix is especially important when comparing HCLTech with a company whose disclosures emphasize a different portfolio. HCLTech’s separate HCLSoftware segment means a reader should ask whether a peer’s software or platform activities are reported separately or embedded in services. Without that check, a services-growth comparison can inadvertently compare unlike businesses.

5. Use contract value and guidance as context, not as revenue

New-deal total contract value (TCV) can show sales momentum and the scale of commitments signed during a year. It is not the same as revenue: contracts may run for several years, contain optional work or be recognized over time.

Company FY2026 TCV or guidance figure Interpretation
HCLTech $9.3 billion new-deal TCV Value of new deals announced for FY2026; not FY2026 recognized revenue.
TCS $40.7 billion TCV Company-reported FY2026 TCV; compare definitions and booking periods before drawing conclusions.
HCLTech FY2027 constant-currency growth guidance Management expectation for a future period, not an achieved result.

Read the underlying releases for definitions and periods: HCLTech and TCS. A higher TCV can reflect larger average contracts, a different mix of renewals and new work, or a different disclosure policy. It should not be converted into a forecast by dividing it by current revenue.

Guidance deserves the same caution. Record the fiscal period, currency basis and any range or assumptions stated by management. Compare guidance with later actual results only after the period ends, and label revisions. A forecast can be useful for understanding management’s expectations, but it is not evidence that the expected growth has already occurred.

6. Build a comparison scorecard that matches your purpose

There is no universal “best” Indian IT-services company. Assign weights to the factors that matter to your decision, and retain the original metric label beside every score.

Axis Question to answer Evidence to record
Scale How large and diversified is the company? Same-year total revenue, currency and scope.
Growth Is the core business expanding? Constant-currency total-company growth, plus matching segment rates.
Profitability How much operating profit is produced from revenue? Original margin label, scope, and any one-time exclusions.
Mix Where does revenue come from? Services, engineering, software and industry exposure.
Sales momentum What may support future revenue? TCV definition, booking period and conversion caveats.
Forward view What does management expect? Guidance period, currency basis and assumptions; never treat it as actual performance.

A practical scoring sequence

  1. Define the decision. State whether you are choosing a vendor, studying an industry peer or reviewing an investment.
  2. Choose the weights. For example, a scale-sensitive outsourcing decision may emphasize revenue and industry coverage, while an operating-momentum review may emphasize constant-currency growth and margin.
  3. Use only comparable cells. Leave a cell blank rather than substituting a segment figure for a company figure.
  4. Attach a confidence note. Mark each measure as directly comparable, partially comparable or not comparable.
  5. Write a conditional conclusion. Explain which company leads on the selected evidence and what remains unknown.

An investor focused on operating momentum might weight constant-currency growth and margin more heavily than absolute size. Someone assessing a potential large outsourcing partner might give scale, geographic reach and industry coverage more weight. The FY2026 disclosures do not establish security performance, service-level compliance, implementation history or commercial pricing, so those items require separate, use-case-specific diligence rather than a score inferred from financial statements.

7. Add buyer diligence that financial tables cannot answer

Financial results are a screening tool, not a vendor-selection checklist. A procurement team comparing HCLTech, TCS, Infosys or Wipro should request evidence tied to its actual workload.

  • Technical fit: Ask for architecture examples, certifications, migration methods and the named skills available for the proposed scope.
  • Delivery record: Request references for comparable industry, geography, scale and technology, not generic testimonials.
  • Service levels: Review uptime, incident-response, resolution-time and escalation commitments in the contract.
  • Security and compliance: Map data residency, access controls, audit rights and regulatory requirements to the service design.
  • Commercial terms: Compare rate cards, transition fees, minimum volumes, change-order rules, termination rights and indexation.
  • Continuity: Check staffing plans, subcontractor use, knowledge-transfer procedures and exit assistance.

None of these attributes can be inferred from a company’s revenue, margin or TCV. They must be tested through proposals, reference checks, demonstrations and contract review.

8. Avoid these common comparison errors

  • Mixing fiscal years. A March-year company result should not be compared with a peer’s later quarter or a different fiscal year without labeling the mismatch.
  • Mixing currency bases. Reported-dollar growth and constant-currency growth answer different questions.
  • Comparing total revenue with a segment. Wipro’s IT Services revenue and HCLTech’s total revenue are not equivalent denominators.
  • Ranking unlike margins. EBIT, operating margin and segment operating margin are not interchangeable.
  • Calling TCV revenue. Contract value is committed work spread across contract terms, not sales already recognized.
  • Treating guidance as a result. A forecast can be revised or missed.
  • Repeating marketing claims as facts. Words such as “leading” or “superior” describe management’s view unless independently verified.
  • Inferring investor returns. Revenue, growth and margin do not by themselves establish valuation attractiveness or future share performance.
  • Filling missing data with estimates. If a peer’s directly comparable metric is not disclosed, mark it unavailable instead of calculating an unsupported substitute.
  • Ignoring denominator changes. A segment percentage may look better simply because the company moved activities between segments.

9. Know which peers belong in the numeric table

TCS, Infosys and Wipro have sufficiently detailed FY2026 figures for the tables above. Tech Mahindra may be a relevant Indian IT-services peer for a broader qualitative discussion, but a sufficiently detailed and comparable FY2026 result was not available for this numeric comparison. It is better to omit unsupported figures than to create a misleading ranking. If you add Tech Mahindra later, apply the same fiscal-year, currency, scope and definition tests used for the four companies shown here.

10. Repeat the process each reporting year

  1. Download each company’s annual results and record the fiscal-year end date.
  2. Copy total revenue, constant-currency growth and reported-currency growth into separate columns.
  3. Label every segment figure, including services, engineering, software or IT Services.
  4. Record the exact margin definition and note exceptional items or exclusions.
  5. Map business segments and industries using each company’s own reporting terminology.
  6. Add TCV and guidance only after recording their period and definitions.
  7. Check whether a metric changed definition from the prior year.
  8. Recalculate the scorecard weights if your decision has changed.
  9. Write a conclusion tied to the reader’s chosen priority rather than naming a universal winner.

How to state a defensible conclusion

A careful FY2026 conclusion would say that TCS had the largest reported revenue and TCV among the figures shown; Infosys reported $20.158 billion of revenue and 3.1% constant-currency growth; HCLTech reported $14.7 billion of revenue, 3.9% constant-currency total growth and faster growth in Engineering and R&D Services than in IT and Business Services; and Wipro reported a 1.6% constant-currency decline in its IT Services segment alongside ₹926.2 billion of gross revenue. It would then explain that margin definitions, business mix and contract disclosures are not perfectly aligned.

That wording gives the reader usable evidence without pretending that scale, one growth rate or one margin settles a question that depends on objectives, risk tolerance and the specific service or investment decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HCLTech bigger than Infosys or TCS by revenue?

No. On FY2026 company-reported headline revenue, TCS reported $30.017 billion, Infosys $20.158 billion and HCLTech $14.7 billion. Those are scale indicators, not a complete competitiveness ranking.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which company grew faster in FY2026, HCLTech or Infosys?

HCLTech reported 3.9% constant-currency total-revenue growth, while Infosys reported 3.1% constant-currency growth. The figures are the closest scope match in the comparison, but a single year does not establish a long-term trend.

Can I compare HCLTech’s 17.2% EBIT margin with TCS’s 25% operating margin?

Only with a qualification. HCLTech’s figure is EBIT margin, while TCS reports operating margin; definitions and scope may differ. Present the original labels rather than treating the percentages as a perfectly normalized ranking.

What does HCLTech’s 9.8% Engineering and R&D Services growth mean?

It is FY2026 constant-currency growth for that HCLTech segment. It does not mean the entire company grew 9.8%; total-company constant-currency growth was 3.9%, and IT and Business Services grew 3.7%.

Is TCV the same as revenue?

No. TCV is the value of newly signed contracts and may be recognized over several years, include optional work or follow different booking policies. HCLTech reported $9.3 billion of new-deal TCV and TCS reported $40.7 billion for FY2026; neither figure is FY2026 recognized revenue.

Why use constant-currency growth instead of U.S.-dollar growth?

Constant-currency growth reduces the effect of exchange-rate movements, making operating trends easier to compare across companies. Reported-dollar growth should still be shown separately because it describes the result in the reporting currency.

Can this comparison identify the best vendor for my project?

No. Financial disclosures do not establish technical fit, security controls, service levels, implementation history or commercial pricing. Those issues require use-case-specific proposals, references, testing and contract diligence.

Why is Wipro’s figure shown in both rupees and dollars?

Wipro reported ₹926.2 billion of gross revenue and separately reported $10,478.1 million of IT Services segment revenue. The different currencies and scopes must remain labeled; do not combine them into one ranking without a consistent basis.

The Bottom Line

Compare HCLTech with TCS, Infosys and Wipro using the same FY2026 period and matching scopes. HCLTech reported $14.7 billion of revenue, 3.9% constant-currency growth and $9.3 billion of new-deal TCV; TCS was larger by revenue and TCV, Infosys reported 3.1% constant-currency growth, and Wipro’s IT Services revenue declined 1.6% in constant currency. Margin labels and business mixes differ, so the right conclusion depends on whether you value scale, growth, profitability, specialization or a specific delivery need.
