Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo check whether a Solana transaction actually succeeded, query its signature with getSignatureStatuses. Read result.value[0]: a non-null record with err: null shows successful execution, while confirmationStatus tells you how strongly the cluster has accepted the block. For a consequential transfer, treat the transaction as settled only when the record is non-null, err is null, and confirmationStatus is finalized.
A successful response from sendTransaction is only an acknowledgement that an RPC service received the signed transaction. It is not proof that the cluster processed or confirmed it. Always perform a separate status check, and do not resubmit a missing transfer merely because the first lookup is inconclusive.

The three questions a status check must answer
A transaction signature by itself is an identifier, not a receipt. A reliable check separates three different questions:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Was a status found?
getSignatureStatusesreturns a status record ornull. - Did execution succeed? The status record’s
errfield isnullon success and contains an error value when execution failed. - How durable is the confirmation?
confirmationStatusisprocessed,confirmed, orfinalized.
Do not collapse these questions into a single “found” or “not found” result. A transaction can have a status and still have failed on-chain, and a temporary null lookup does not prove either success or failure.

What each Solana confirmation level means
| Level | Meaning | Use it for | Risk or limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
processed |
The node has processed the transaction in its newest block view. | Fast UI feedback while a user waits. | The block can still be rolled back, so it is not a final settlement signal. |
confirmed |
More than two-thirds of active stake directly voted on the block. | Applications that need stronger assurance but can accept less than finality. | The cluster has not yet reached its strongest recognized commitment. |
finalized |
The cluster recognizes the block as finalized with maximum lockout. | High-assurance settlement, such as a consequential transfer. | It generally appears later than the earlier levels; the API does not promise a universal confirmation time. |
The ordering is processed < confirmed < finalized. A finalized result also satisfies an application’s requirement for confirmed or processed status, but the reverse is not true. Choose the threshold before writing your application logic instead of treating every non-null response as equivalent.
Check a signature with getSignatureStatuses
1. Preserve the exact signature
Copy the transaction signature returned by the wallet or by sendTransaction. Do not alter its case, truncate it for the RPC request, or substitute a block hash. The signature is the value that belongs in the method’s signatures array. Query the same Solana cluster on which the transaction was submitted.
2. Make the status request
getSignatureStatuses accepts an array, so even one transaction is sent as a one-element array. A minimal JSON-RPC request is:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"getSignatureStatuses","params":[["TRANSACTION_SIGNATURE"]]}
With a command-line client, keep the RPC endpoint in an environment variable rather than embedding credentials or assuming a particular provider:
curl -sS "$RPC_ENDPOINT" -H 'Content-Type: application/json' --data-raw '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"getSignatureStatuses","params":[["TRANSACTION_SIGNATURE"]]}'
The method returns an object whose relevant path is result.value[0]. The status method does not take a commitment option. Instead, read the returned confirmationStatus and compare it with your application’s required level.
3. Interpret the result, not just the HTTP response
A successful HTTP or JSON-RPC transport response means the endpoint answered your request. It does not mean the transaction succeeded. Apply this decision sequence to result.value[0]:

- If the entry is
null, the endpoint did not return a status for that signature. Wait briefly and query again, or use history search when the signature may be old. - If the entry is non-null and
erris notnull, report an on-chain execution failure. Do not display the transaction as successful merely because it has a confirmation level. - If the entry is non-null and
errisnull, report the currentconfirmationStatusand continue polling if your required threshold is stronger.
In other words, “successful” should be a conjunction: a status exists, execution has err: null, and the commitment meets the threshold selected for the action.
What a null status means
result.value[0] = null means that the node has no status available for the signature in the lookup it performed. It is not a failure code and is not proof that the transaction never reached the network. A just-submitted transaction may not yet be visible to the node, while an older transaction may have left the recent status cache.
Retry a recent lookup safely
After a short delay, issue the same status request again. Use bounded polling rather than an unending tight loop: wait between requests, stop when the required state is reached, and surface a timeout that tells the user the result is still unknown. The official method does not provide a commitment parameter, so do not add one and assume it changes the lookup.
Search transaction history for an older signature
When a signature may have fallen outside the recent cache, set searchTransactionHistory to true in the method’s configuration object:
{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":2,"method":"getSignatureStatuses","params":[["TRANSACTION_SIGNATURE"],{"searchTransactionHistory":true}]}
History search can make a lookup more expensive, so use it when the age of the transaction or the cache behavior justifies it, not as a substitute for every first request. If the result remains null, keep the outcome unknown rather than declaring success or failure without another source of evidence.
Check execution errors separately
The confirmation level describes the block’s acceptance, not whether the program instructions completed successfully. For example, a transaction can be included in a block and receive confirmed while its instruction fails. The err field is therefore mandatory in a settlement decision:

err: null: the cluster reports successful execution.err: { ... }or another non-null value: execution failed; show or log the error and do not credit the transfer as successful.
Preserve the error object in application logs. Its exact shape depends on the failure, and reducing every error to “not found” makes support and reconciliation harder. A failed transaction with a non-null status is different from a signature for which no status is available.
Use getTransaction when you need details
getSignatureStatuses is the right first check for state. Use getTransaction when you need the transaction’s message, metadata, balances, instructions, or recorded error details for investigation and reconciliation.
The two methods answer different questions:
getSignatureStatusesreports the current status associated with one or more signatures.getTransactionretrieves confirmed transaction details at a requested commitment and can returnnullwhen the transaction is not found or is not available at that commitment.
Because getTransaction can return null for more than one reason, do not use that result alone to infer that a transfer failed. Request the commitment that matches the detail you need and include maxSupportedTransactionVersion when your client must declare which transaction versions it can decode. A representative request shape is:
{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":3,"method":"getTransaction","params":["TRANSACTION_SIGNATURE",{"commitment":"confirmed","maxSupportedTransactionVersion":0}]}
The version value in that example is a client capability declaration, not a guarantee that every transaction uses that version. Set it to the highest version your decoder supports, following the method’s current reference.
A practical polling design
A wallet, exchange, or personal-finance dashboard should make the state transitions visible instead of displaying a binary spinner. The following algorithm keeps status, execution outcome, and settlement policy separate:
- Submit the signed transaction and save the returned signature immediately.
- Display that submission was received by the RPC service, not that the transfer is complete.
- Call
getSignatureStatusesfor the signature. - On
null, wait and retry; if the signature is old, repeat withsearchTransactionHistory: true. - On a non-null record with a non-null
err, stop and mark the transaction failed. - On
err: null, display the current level: processed, confirmed, or finalized. - For a high-assurance transfer, stop only at
finalized. For a lower-risk interaction, document whetherprocessedorconfirmedis sufficient. - After success, optionally call
getTransactionto obtain details needed for a receipt or reconciliation record.
Keep the original signature attached to every status update. If a user closes a page, the application can resume by checking that signature later instead of submitting a second transfer.

Illustrative JavaScript flow
async function readStatus(endpoint, signature, searchTransactionHistory = false) {
const response = await fetch(endpoint, {
method: 'POST',
headers: { 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
body: JSON.stringify({
jsonrpc: '2.0',
id: 1,
method: 'getSignatureStatuses',
params: [[signature], { searchTransactionHistory }]
})
});
const payload = await response.json();
const status = payload.result?.value?.[0] ?? null;
if (status === null) return { state: 'unknown', status: null };
if (status.err !== null) return { state: 'failed', status };
if (status.confirmationStatus === 'finalized') return { state: 'finalized', status };
if (status.confirmationStatus === 'confirmed') return { state: 'confirmed', status };
return { state: 'processed', status };
}
This example intentionally returns an unknown state for null instead of converting it to failure. A production implementation should also handle transport errors, JSON-RPC errors, request cancellation, and a polling deadline.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy sendTransaction is not confirmation
The submission method’s successful response contains the signature that lets you perform follow-up checks. It does not establish that a validator processed the transaction, that the transaction was included in a block, or that its instructions succeeded. Network connectivity, RPC behavior, and later cluster processing are separate stages.
Present the stages distinctly in user-facing text:
- Submitted: the signed transaction was accepted by the RPC service for forwarding.
- Processed: a node reports it in its newest processed block view.
- Confirmed: more than two-thirds of active stake voted directly on the block.
- Finalized: the cluster has reached maximum lockout for the block.
- Failed: a status exists but
erris non-null. - Unknown: the status lookup returned
nullor could not be completed.
These labels prevent a submission receipt from being mistaken for a completed payment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not retry a transfer just because the first check is unclear
For a consequential transfer, a missing status can tempt an operator to submit the same payment again. Solana’s exchange guidance cautions against retrying before the original recent blockhash expires, because an early retry can create a duplicate transfer if the original transaction is later processed.
Use the original signature as the reconciliation key. Continue status checks, use history search when appropriate, and investigate with getTransaction. If a business process requires a retry policy, define the waiting condition and the authority to approve it; do not let a client-side timeout automatically create a second payment.
Troubleshooting common outcomes
“The signature is not found.”
First determine whether the lookup returned a genuine null entry, a transport failure, or a JSON-RPC error. For a recent submission, wait and query again. For an older signature, enable searchTransactionHistory. Verify that the signature was copied exactly and that the endpoint is connected to the same cluster used for submission. Until a status or other authoritative record is obtained, label the result unknown.

“It says confirmed, but the balance did not change.”
Inspect err before treating the status as success. If it is non-null, the transaction executed with an error. If it is null, retrieve transaction details with getTransaction and inspect the instructions, metadata, and account changes. A status check confirms the transaction’s execution outcome and commitment; it does not by itself explain whether the intended account, token mint, or amount matched the user’s expectation.
“It is processed, but not finalized.”
That is a normal intermediate state. Processed is the node’s newest view and can be rolled back. Keep polling if the operation requires finality, and show the user that the transaction is still awaiting the stronger threshold rather than marking it failed.
“The status is confirmed, so can I release funds?”
Only if your documented risk policy accepts confirmed status. Confirmed represents a direct vote from more than two-thirds of active stake, but finalized is the strongest commitment recognized by the cluster. For consequential settlement, require finalized plus err: null.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →“getTransaction returned null.”
A null detail response can mean that the transaction is not found or that it is not confirmed at the requested commitment. Check the signature status first, then retry details with an appropriate commitment and supported transaction-version setting. Do not translate a null detail response into a failed transfer without checking getSignatureStatuses.
Choosing a threshold for a personal-finance workflow
Use the weakest threshold that matches the consequence, and make that choice explicit:
| Action | Suggested application rule | What to show the user |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate interface feedback | Show processed when err: null, but label it pending stronger confirmation. |
“Processed; awaiting confirmation.” |
| Routine, reversible activity | Accept confirmed with err: null if the product’s risk policy permits it. |
“Confirmed by the cluster.” |
| Irreversible or high-value settlement | Require finalized and err: null. |
“Finalized and successful.” |
| Any non-null error | Reject as successful regardless of commitment level. | “Transaction failed; review the on-chain error.” |
Do not advertise a universal number of seconds for these transitions. Confirmation time depends on network and RPC conditions, and the official status references do not establish a topic-specific latency statistic.
Production RPC considerations
Shared public RPC endpoints are useful for experiments and occasional checks, but the RPC overview warns that they are not intended for production applications and may return rate-limit or access-block responses. A production service should assess infrastructure appropriate to its request volume, reliability requirements, logging, and history-search workload.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Regardless of endpoint choice, build for these conditions:
- Transport timeouts and intermittent connectivity.
- JSON-RPC errors distinct from a valid
nullstatus. - Rate limiting during polling bursts.
- Different costs or response times for recent-cache lookups and history searches.
- Resuming a status check after a process or browser restart.
- Retention of the signature, cluster, timestamps, observed status levels, and final error for reconciliation.
Never hide an RPC outage behind a “failed” transaction label. A failed lookup is an observability problem; an on-chain non-null err is an execution result.
Quick Recap
A concise final checklist

- Separate endpoint failures and rate limits from on-chain transaction failures.
