Google completed its acquisition of cloud-security company Wiz on March 11, 2026, nearly a year after announcing the all-cash transaction. Google originally described the deal as worth $32 billion, subject to closing adjustments. Alphabet later reported a preliminary purchase price of approximately $29.5 billion, or $29.467 billion, in its SEC filing.
Wiz has joined Google Cloud but kept its brand and is expected to remain a multicloud security platform. Google says Wiz will continue supporting Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

The Google-Wiz deal is now complete
Google announced the definitive agreement to acquire Wiz on March 18, 2025. At the time, the transaction was described as an all-cash acquisition valued at $32 billion, making it Google’s largest acquisition.
The transaction closed on March 11, 2026. Wiz is now part of Google Cloud, although Google retained the Wiz name rather than folding the company immediately into an existing Google security brand.

Google’s announcement says the companies received the necessary closing clearances. Public records, including the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s register, show a Phase 1 determination dated February 19, 2026. That record should not be treated as a complete regulatory history for every country involved.
Google’s original announcement and its closing announcement provide the company’s account of the transaction.
Why the headline says $32 billion while Alphabet reported $29.5 billion
The two figures describe different stages and treatments of the transaction:
- $32 billion: the announced headline value of the all-cash deal, explicitly subject to closing adjustments.
- $29.467 billion: Alphabet’s preliminary purchase price reported after purchase-price adjustments and excluding post-combination compensation arrangements.
Alphabet’s SEC filing allocated the preliminary purchase price across approximately:
- $8.3 billion in acquired intangible assets;
- $22.689 billion in goodwill; and
- $1.522 billion in net liabilities assumed, including approximately $660 million of acquired cash.
That means it is accurate to call this Google’s previously announced $32 billion Wiz acquisition. It is incomplete, however, to say without qualification that Alphabet’s final accounting purchase price was exactly $32 billion. The reported preliminary accounting value was closer to $29.5 billion.
These figures are not the same as a simple valuation multiple. Without verified financial information about Wiz’s revenue, profitability, or recurring revenue, the acquisition price cannot responsibly be used to calculate a meaningful purchase-price-to-revenue comparison.
Alphabet’s detailed purchase-price allocation and its quarterly SEC filing contain the accounting figures.

What Google bought
Wiz is broader than a conventional cloud vulnerability scanner. Its platform is positioned around connecting security information across the software-development and cloud lifecycle.
Depending on the product and license, Wiz’s capabilities include:
- cloud security posture management;
- cloud exposure management and attack-surface management;
- data security posture management;
- AI security posture management;
- code-to-cloud security;
- vulnerability prioritization;
- cloud detection and response;
- runtime protection;
- security-graph analysis; and
- integrations with code repositories, development environments, and CI/CD pipelines.
The central product idea is context. Wiz says it correlates cloud configurations, identities, vulnerabilities, secrets, network exposure, code, and runtime information so security teams can focus on exploitable attack paths instead of treating every alert as equally urgent.
Its categories should not be treated as interchangeable. CSPM focuses primarily on cloud configuration and compliance posture; DSPM focuses on data exposure and data-security posture; AI-SPM addresses AI applications and related infrastructure; and cloud detection and response focuses more on identifying and responding to active threats. A buyer needs to confirm which capabilities are included in a particular package.

Why Wiz mattered to Google Cloud
1. It gives Google a multicloud security product
Large organizations commonly use more than one cloud provider, along with Kubernetes, hybrid infrastructure, and on-premises systems. A security platform that works across those environments can be sold even when Google Cloud is not the customer’s primary infrastructure provider.
Google has specifically said Wiz products will continue working across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and OCI. That cross-cloud reach is strategically important: Google can use Wiz to sell security into an enterprise’s whole environment rather than limiting the opportunity to workloads running on Google Cloud.

- Defends against ransomware, zero-day exploits, and encrypted malware with Capture ATP sandboxing and RTDMI for precise detection and blocking.
- Enterprise connectivity with multiple 10 GbE SFP+ and 1 GbE ports supports bandwidth-heavy applications and east-west segmentation.
- Scales for thousands of VPN tunnels and large remote workforces, enabling secure connectivity across global sites and data centers.
- Redundant power options and high availability modes provide resiliency for mission-critical operations.
The arrangement also creates a long-term customer-neutrality question. Google benefits from Wiz being multicloud, but customers may eventually ask whether pricing, feature parity, integrations, and sales attention remain comparable on rival clouds.
2. It strengthens Google’s AI-security strategy
Google framed the acquisition partly as an investment in securing AI platforms and workloads. Current Google Cloud positioning places Wiz alongside Google’s security operations and threat-intelligence capabilities.
Google later said Wiz supports environments and agent platforms including Databricks, AWS AgentCore, Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, Microsoft Azure Copilot Studio, and Salesforce Agentforce. Those are Google’s post-close product-positioning claims, not independent evidence that every integration delivers the same depth or performance.
Google’s AI-era announcement provides more detail on that positioning.
3. It adds an established enterprise security platform
Google Cloud has traditionally competed with larger infrastructure rivals through data, analytics, artificial intelligence, and security. Wiz gives it a prominent standalone security platform, an existing enterprise sales channel, and a product designed for customers with mixed-cloud estates.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

That is a strategic inference from the transaction, not a separately disclosed financial rationale.
What changes for Wiz customers?
For existing customers, the immediate message is continuity rather than a forced migration. Wiz customers should not assume they must move their workloads to Google Cloud. Google says the Wiz platform will continue to support AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and OCI, and the Wiz brand remains in place.

Customers should nevertheless review the following during renewal or procurement:
- Contract terms: Check renewal rights, assignment provisions, service levels, and termination terms.
- Data and telemetry: Confirm where security data is processed, stored, retained, and exported.
- Roadmap and integrations: Ask whether features will remain equally available across clouds.
- Support: Determine whether account teams, escalation paths, or support geographies are changing.
- Google integration: Evaluate any connection to Google Security Operations, threat intelligence, or other Google Cloud services.
- Procurement: Ask whether discounts require Google Cloud commitments or whether marketplace purchasing remains available.
Google’s public promise of continued multicloud availability is important, but it does not guarantee that future packaging, pricing, sales incentives, or product priorities will never change.
How Wiz’s licensing can affect costs
Wiz generally uses modular, quote-based licensing. Pricing can scale according to factors such as workloads, active developers, log ingestion, and runtime sensors. Its public pricing page does not generally display a universal list price.
An AWS Marketplace listing provided examples of annual prices seen in August 2026:
| Example product | Listed scope | Example annual price |
|---|---|---|
| Wiz Essential | 100 workloads | $24,000 |
| Wiz Advanced | 100 workloads | $38,000 |
| Wiz Sensor | 100 sensors | $28,000 |
| Wiz Code | 100 licenses | $58,500 |
| Wiz Defend | 300 GB of logs per month | $18,000 |
These are marketplace examples, not a universal quote or a complete cost estimate. Add-ons, cloud growth, log volume, sensors, contract structure, and negotiated terms can materially change the total. Buyers should request a full bill of materials before comparing Wiz with a native cloud service or another CNAPP platform.

The deal reinforces the value of cloud-native application protection platforms, often grouped under the CNAPP category. It also removes a major independent company from the pool of potential cybersecurity IPO candidates, a possibility discussed in contemporary coverage such as Axios’s report.
Best Value
- Built on a purposed-built secure processor, this compact network firewall delivers the highest level of security performance and energy efficiency in its class – 2.5 Gbps IPS throughput | 1.3 Gbps threat protection | 1.4 Gbps SSL Inspection throughput.
- User-friendly management console gives you centralized visibility and simplifies policy enforcement across your network. Its zero-touch deployment helps you optimize your onboarding experience.
- Compact design equipped with 10 x GE RJ45 ports (including 7 x Internal Ports, 2 x WAN Ports, 1 x DMZ Port) provide essential connectivity and flexibility for various network configurations in branch offices.
Independent vendors may face more pressure to differentiate through cloud neutrality, lower cost, deeper runtime protection, stronger developer tooling, identity and entitlement analysis, AI-security features, or managed services. The transaction could also encourage further consolidation, although the effect on pricing and market structure remains uncertain.
Wiz is not automatically the best choice for every organization. The relevant comparison depends on cloud mix, existing security investments, operational maturity, runtime requirements, and total licensing cost.
Key alternatives
- Palo Alto Networks Prisma Cloud: A broad option for organizations already standardized on Palo Alto Networks or seeking a larger cloud-application protection suite. Its breadth can also increase implementation and licensing complexity. Product details.
- Microsoft Defender for Cloud: Often worth evaluating for Microsoft-heavy organizations using Azure, Entra, Defender, and Microsoft enterprise agreements. Buyers with complex non-Microsoft environments should compare multicloud coverage and workflow depth. Product details.
- AWS security services: A natural fit for AWS-centric teams that prioritize native integration and pay-as-you-go services. Native controls may not provide the same single cross-cloud operating model as a dedicated CNAPP. Product details.
- Orca Security: An independent multicloud alternative for buyers concerned about hyperscaler ownership. Compare module depth, runtime capabilities, developer security, and pricing rather than assuming independence alone determines the better choice. Product details.
- CrowdStrike cloud security: Relevant for organizations already invested in CrowdStrike endpoint, identity, or security operations products. Confirm that its cloud, code, and posture-management scope matches the organization’s requirements. Product details.
Who should consider Wiz—and who may not need it?
Wiz is most compelling to organizations with multiple clouds, complex development pipelines, substantial compliance obligations, or a need to prioritize relationships between vulnerabilities, identities, exposure, and runtime risk.
Recommended Free Tools
It may be excessive for a small business with few workloads, limited compliance requirements, and no dedicated security team. A single-cloud organization that already has strong native controls may also find a native service more economical or easier to operate.
Buyers should compare:
- the organization’s AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OCI, Kubernetes, hybrid, and on-premises footprint;
- required coverage across CSPM, DSPM, code security, vulnerability management, runtime protection, and AI security;
- which functions require agents, sensors, logs, or additional modules;
- developer, source-control, CI/CD, ticketing, and remediation integrations;
- the quality of risk prioritization and attack-path analysis;
- data residency, retention, audit evidence, and support geography;
- existing investments in Microsoft, AWS, Google, Palo Alto Networks, CrowdStrike, or other security platforms; and
- data export, API access, contract portability, and exit options.
Questions that remain unresolved
The acquisition’s immediate facts are clear, but its long-term business impact is not.
- Will Wiz maintain comparable functionality and pricing for customers that do not use Google Cloud?
- How extensively will Wiz be bundled with Google Cloud security and AI services?
- Will Google’s ownership change account management, support, or product-development priorities?
- Will the acquisition improve Google Cloud’s security position in measurable ways, or mainly strengthen its sales and distribution?
- Can Google preserve the independent operating culture that helped Wiz compete across cloud providers?
These questions matter because Google did not merely buy another internal security control. It bought a platform whose value depends partly on remaining useful outside Google’s own infrastructure.
The bottom line for investors and enterprise buyers
Google has completed the Wiz acquisition. The deal was announced at $32 billion, but Alphabet’s preliminary accounting purchase price was $29.467 billion after adjustments and excluding post-combination compensation arrangements.
