Control that exceeds economic ownership

These percentages measure different things:
- 13.9% ordinary-share ownership is the relevant disclosed economic stake in the ordinary shares.
- 28.8% voting power reflects the additional votes attached to beneficiary certificates.
- The beneficiary certificates carry no economic rights, so it is inaccurate to describe Ek as economically owning 28.8% of Spotify.

The share count is reported as of December 31, 2025, not August 18, 2026; beneficial ownership can include indirect holdings and securities treated as beneficially owned under SEC rules; and net worth also depends on taxes, liabilities, other assets, private-company interests and valuation adjustments. A large shareholder may also be unable to sell at the quoted price without affecting the market. Different assumptions
Estimates may use different ownership dates, exchange rates, treatment of holding companies, tax assumptions, debt estimates and liquidity discounts. Public shares have a quoted price; private assets do not.
Private-company valuations
Forbes reports that Neko Health, which Ek co-founded, raised $700 million in 2026 at a reported $7 billion valuation. That financing valuation does not establish Ek’s personal stake: his ownership percentage is not established here, and preferred-share terms may differ from the value of ordinary founder equity. The company may contribute to his wealth, but Spotify remains the clearly documented core source.

Rounded figures such as $7 billion, $8.7 billion, $9 billion or $10.3 billion may reflect older dates or unsourced databases. They should not be presented as current verified facts without a date and methodology.
Daniel Ek’s salary and compensation
Spotify reported no annual base salary for Ek at the end of fiscal 2025. Its compensation table reported $694,484 in total compensation for 2025, listed as “all other compensation,” with no salary, bonus, option awards, stock awards or non-equity incentive compensation shown for him in that table.
That paycheck is separate from his net worth. His billionaire status is associated primarily with equity and investment interests accumulated through Spotify, not with an unusually large annual salary.

Prima Materia and Neko Health: what can be counted?
Prima Materia
The approximately €1 billion figure associated with Prima Materia is an announced investment plan, not a statement of Ek’s cash balance or the current value of the firm. Without a current portfolio valuation, it cannot be added directly to a personal net-worth calculation.
