Choose Bluehost if you want WordPress, WooCommerce, deeper customization, migration freedom, or a lower advertised hosting price. Choose Wix if you want to publish a polished site quickly without managing WordPress, plugins, servers, or updates. They are not equivalent products: Bluehost is primarily a hosting provider, while Wix is a managed website-building platform.
Bluehost and Wix solve different problems
Bluehost provides a hosting environment, usually paired with WordPress. You choose themes, plugins, content tools, integrations, backups and configuration, although Bluehost now offers AI-assisted setup, migration tools, automatic updates and staging on listed WordPress plans. Its product range also includes WooCommerce, VPS and dedicated hosting. See Bluehost’s WordPress hosting information and current plan details.
Wix bundles the visual editor, templates, hosting, security, domains, marketing and business functions into one managed platform. A Premium or Studio plan is required to connect a custom domain and remove Wix branding; the domain may be bought through Wix or connected from another registrar. The distinction is convenience versus portability: Wix removes infrastructure decisions, but it does not give you a normal, self-contained WordPress installation.

|---|---|---|
| Best for | WordPress, WooCommerce, publishing, agencies and owners who want control | Fast no-code launches, portfolios, service businesses, bookings and simple stores |
| Platform type | Hosting for WordPress and other site software | Managed hosted website builder |
| Advertised entry signal | About $3.99/month on current promotional pages; Business-level signal about $6.99/month, depending on term and offer | Approximately $17 Lite, $29 Core, $39 Business and $159 Business Elite per month on annual billing in reported 2026 pricing |
| WordPress | Native focus, with themes, plugins, code and hosting tiers | Not a WordPress host |
| Visual editing | Available through Bluehost’s WordPress tools, but WordPress concepts remain | Drag-and-drop editor and templates are central |
| Storage and site count | Plan-dependent; a 2026 comparison lists roughly 10–100 sites and 10–3,000 GB NVMe storage | Generally one site per plan; reported storage ranges from 500 MB to unlimited by tier |
| Backups | Weekly backups on listed plans; higher tiers may advertise daily backups | Automatic backups are listed on displayed ecommerce plans |

#1 Best Overall
Pricing: compare the whole ownership cost
Bluehost’s public pages currently show introductory WordPress or web-hosting prices beginning around $3.99 per month, with a Business-level signal around $6.99. Wix’s reported annual-billing prices are about $17 for Lite, $29 for Core, $39 for Business and $159 for Business Elite. These are promotional or billing-term-dependent signals, not guaranteed renewal prices. Check the final checkout for your country and product.
Before deciding, compare the same requirements and record:
- Introductory price, renewal price and required billing term
- Domain registration in year one and renewal thereafter
- Business email and its duration or provider
- Paid WordPress plugins, Wix apps, backups and security add-ons
- Payment-processing charges and ecommerce upgrades
- Taxes, storage, collaborators and extra sites
Basic business site
For a few pages, contact details and a blog, compare Bluehost WordPress Starter-level offerings with Wix Lite or Core. Wix may cost more but includes the editor and managed infrastructure. Bluehost’s lower entry price can be attractive if you are comfortable with WordPress maintenance.
Content or publishing site
Compare a Bluehost WordPress plan with a Wix plan that provides the storage, collaborators and marketing tools you actually need. Budget for premium themes, plugins, email delivery and independent backups on WordPress.

Online store
Compare Bluehost WooCommerce/ecommerce plans with Wix Core or Business only after listing inventory, shipping, tax, subscriptions, marketplace and analytics requirements. A cheap plan that lacks a required commerce function is not a cheap store.
Ease of use and maintenance
Why Wix is easier at launch
Wix takes you from account to published page with templates, visual editing and prompt-based site creation. Hosting, SSL, updates, forms, bookings, events, restaurant tools, payments and marketing live in one dashboard. You make fewer choices about themes, plugins, caching and server configuration.
What Bluehost simplifies—and what it does not
Bluehost’s AI site creation, WordPress onboarding, migration tools and visual tooling make WordPress less intimidating than a fully manual installation. It is still WordPress, however. You may need to understand themes, plugins, users, permalinks, updates, staging, caching, DNS and compatibility troubleshooting.
Design freedom versus technical freedom
Wix offers extensive front-end design freedom: experiment with layouts, branded pages, templates and responsive presentation without code. Its limitation is platform-level control. You cannot install arbitrary server software or move the entire Wix implementation as an equivalent installation.

Rank #3
Bluehost plus WordPress gives broader structural freedom. You can change themes, install specialized plugins, edit code, create custom post types and databases, use custom integrations, move hosts and eventually upgrade to VPS or dedicated infrastructure. That flexibility also creates more ways to misconfigure a site.
SEO, blogging and publishing
Neither platform guarantees rankings. Results depend on useful content, crawlability, information architecture, speed, accessibility, links, structured data and relevance to the searcher.
Wix includes metadata controls, page-management tools, analytics, marketing and a guided workflow that reduces beginner configuration errors. It is sufficient for many local businesses, portfolios and conventional blogs.
Bluehost’s WordPress route provides a larger SEO ecosystem and more control over redirects, schema, technical settings, performance tools and content architecture. Bluehost advertises Yoast SEO features on current plans. WordPress is the stronger choice for complex categories, memberships, custom post types, newsletters, affiliate publishing and editorial workflows.

Ecommerce: simple store or commerce operation?
Choose Wix for a straightforward store
Wix is a good fit when products, pages, bookings and marketing should share one interface; the catalog and inventory process is relatively simple; and fast launch matters more than maximum extensibility. Its ecommerce pages list product tools, payment-enabled plans, SSL, DDoS protection, automatic backups and 24/7 care: Wix ecommerce hosting.
Choose Bluehost for WooCommerce flexibility
Bluehost is better when WordPress content marketing is central, specialized plugins are required, or you need more control over checkout, data, integrations, themes and hosting tiers. Bluehost’s current pricing pages describe WordPress and WooCommerce/ecommerce options, payments, inventory tools and premium plugins on some bundles.
Know when neither is ideal
If advanced inventory, subscriptions, multichannel selling, wholesale pricing, tax automation or commerce analytics drive the business, compare Shopify at Shopify pricing and BigCommerce as well. Independent 2026 coverage identifies commerce-first platforms as stronger candidates for demanding operations.
Performance, uptime, security and backups
Bluehost advertises a 99.99% uptime SLA on its pricing page. Wix’s general plans page advertises 99.99% uptime, while its ecommerce page displays 99.9% for the listed ecommerce plans. These are provider claims from different product pages, not directly comparable test results; exclusions, measurement and remedies may differ. See Wix plans and Bluehost pricing.
Best Value
Real page speed and reliability depend on theme, plugins, media, caching, traffic, geography and configuration. Independent tests report strong Bluehost performance in their tested setup, but that cannot promise the same result for every site.
SSL, malware scanning, DDoS protection and managed updates are useful features, not proof that one provider is universally more secure. A weekly backup is also not a complete disaster-recovery plan. Frequently updated stores and publications should maintain off-platform, versioned copies, test restores and document who performs recovery.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support and day-to-day responsibility
Bluehost advertises 24/7 live chat and phone access for WordPress hosting, plus WordPress-focused onboarding. Wix advertises 24/7 customer care through chat and scheduled calls. Before buying, ask whether your exact plan includes phone support, plugin troubleshooting, DNS and email assistance, backup restoration and migration help. Independent coverage praises Bluehost’s onboarding and documentation but notes upselling and limited free-email duration on some offers.
Wix removes more maintenance decisions. Bluehost gives you more control but leaves more responsibility for plugin conflicts, updates, security settings and recovery planning.

Leaving Bluehost
A WordPress site can generally move to another WordPress host. Plan to transfer files, database, media, DNS, SSL, email, cron jobs and redirects. Bluehost advertises a free WordPress migration tool, but verify what the tool covers for your site.
Leaving Wix
You can connect a domain registered elsewhere and may export selected content or store data, but a complete Wix design and its platform functions do not normally become a portable WordPress installation. Recreating a mature site elsewhere can require manual page, layout and integration work. Domain connection is documented by Wix Support.
Quick Recap
Which platform fits your site?
| Site type | Recommendation | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Personal portfolio | Wix for fastest polished launch; Bluehost for future WordPress ownership | Visual presentation versus portability |
| Local service business | Wix | Templates, forms, bookings and marketing are integrated |
| Serious blog or affiliate site | Bluehost | WordPress publishing depth and plugin ecosystem |
| Freelancer or agency | Bluehost | Staging, plugins, custom workflows and multiple-site options |
| Small simple store | Wix | Faster launch with one business dashboard |
| WooCommerce store | Bluehost | Direct WordPress/WooCommerce path and extensibility |
| Complex commerce operation | Compare Shopify or BigCommerce too | Advanced inventory, selling channels and analytics may matter more than either platform |
| Membership or custom application | Bluehost | More control over plugins, code, databases and infrastructure |
| Existing Wix site | Stay unless portability or functionality justifies rebuilding | Migration is a recreation project, not a one-click host transfer |
| Existing WordPress site | Bluehost or another WordPress host | Preserves the content system and migration path |
