Apple’s reported sales in India are no longer an almost-$8-billion story. Bloomberg-based reporting put sales at nearly $9 billion for the fiscal year ended March 2025 and above $10 billion for the fiscal year ended March 2026. The earlier claim of roughly $8 billion and about 33% growth describes an older 12-month comparison and should not be applied to either later year.
The India-sales timeline
Apple does not publish a separate India revenue line in the financial statements cited here. The country figures come from Bloomberg-based reports that relied on people familiar with Apple’s private financial data, so they should be treated as reported estimates rather than audited country disclosures.

The fiscal-year dates matter. Saying that Apple’s India revenue “jumped 33%” without identifying the period can make an older comparison look like the latest result.
Why the 33% figure is easy to misread
A rise from $6 billion to $8 billion is mathematically about 33%. That arithmetic explains how the older headline may have been constructed, but it does not independently verify the underlying accounting period or source. It should therefore be described as a reported or inferred historical comparison, not as Apple’s disclosed growth rate.

What “annual sales in India” includes—and what it does not
The reported number is revenue from Apple products and services purchased in India during a financial year or 12-month period. It is not a measure of:
- the value of iPhones assembled in India;
- the value of iPhones exported from India;
- Apple’s broader Asia-Pacific revenue;
- sales booked by independent Indian distributors or retailers; or
- Apple’s profit in India.
This distinction is essential because Apple’s sales, manufacturing and export statistics are often discussed together even though they measure different economic activity.
What is driving the increase?
iPhone-led premium demand
iPhones account for most of Apple’s reported Indian revenue. Apple benefits from demand among India’s expanding affluent and aspirational consumers, even though its unit share remains well below that of mass-market Android brands.

A wider retail and online footprint
Apple opened its first Indian stores in Mumbai and New Delhi in 2023 and had six official stores by the FY2026 report. Its Indian online store has operated since 2020. Premium resellers and broader distribution extend access beyond the largest cities. Retail expansion is a contributor to the strategy, but the available reports do not establish what percentage of the sales increase it caused.

Financing and trade-ins
Bank offers, student pricing, instalment plans and trade-ins help reduce the upfront cost of Apple hardware. Apple’s official India buying page advertises trade-in credit of up to ₹57,000 toward eligible iPhone purchases, although the final amount depends on the device and inspection: Apple Trade In.
More than the iPhone
Tim Cook said India had a record October–December 2025 quarter across iPhone, Mac, iPad and Services, with strong double-digit sales growth. That suggests Apple’s installed base is supporting an ecosystem business rather than only a single-device upgrade cycle.

India’s market position: small unit share, large value share
Counterpoint estimates cited in Indian business coverage put Apple’s 2025 Indian smartphone share at about 9% by unit volume and 28% by smartphone value. The iPhone 16 was reported as the country’s top-shipped smartphone model that year. These are third-party estimates, not Apple disclosures.
The gap between unit and value share reflects Apple’s higher average selling price. Apple can generate a disproportionate amount of revenue without leading the market in the number of phones shipped. It is therefore inaccurate to say that Apple dominates India by volume, even as its premium position strengthens.
Why India matters to Apple beyond current revenue
A large market with room to grow
Cook has described India as the world’s second-largest smartphone market and fourth-largest PC market while acknowledging that Apple’s share remains modest. A large population, a growing middle class and a developing installed base give Apple room to expand iPhone, Mac, iPad, accessories and Services sales.

Production diversification
India is also becoming an important manufacturing base. India’s technology minister said Apple exported more than ₹1.5 trillion, or approximately $17.4 billion, in iPhones from India in the fiscal year reported in April 2025 (Bloomberg). That is the reported value of products shipped abroad, not revenue from Indian consumers.
By August 2026, Bloomberg-based coverage reported that India had five iPhone factories and produced approximately one in four iPhones, with the country becoming a major source of US-bound devices. These figures describe supplier and contractor capacity, not necessarily factories directly owned and operated by Apple. They also do not mean India has replaced China across Apple’s entire supply chain.

Import duties and other taxes, currency movements, distribution expenses and Apple’s premium positioning all affect Indian prices. Bloomberg-based reporting cited an entry-level iPhone 17 price of ₹82,900 in India versus $799 in the United States at the time of publication. That is not a perfect like-for-like comparison unless tax treatment, storage, financing and promotions are specified, and prices can change.

On Apple’s official India store, the listed starting prices checked for current models were ₹64,900 for iPhone 17e, ₹69,900 for iPhone 16, ₹82,900 for iPhone 17, ₹119,900 for iPhone Air and ₹134,900 for iPhone 17 Pro: Apple India iPhone store. An AppleCare+ example on an iPhone 17 purchase page showed ₹14,900 MRP or a ₹2,483 monthly option for that configuration; coverage and pricing vary by model.
Limits and risks behind the growth story
- Price sensitivity: high list prices limit Apple’s mass-market reach and make financing important.
- Android competition: local and international Android brands remain stronger by unit volume.
- Currency exposure: rupee depreciation can reduce the dollar value of reported growth even when local-currency sales rise.
- Tax and policy exposure: import duties and other rules affect both pricing and supply-chain economics.
- Disclosure limits: Apple’s public statements report broader geographic segments, not a standalone India annual-revenue line.
- Launch timing: sales can be affected by the timing of new iPhone releases, promotions and financing conditions.
What investors and buyers should take from the numbers
For investors, the cleanest reading is a progression from an older approximately $8 billion comparison to nearly $9 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2025 and above $10 billion in the fiscal year ended March 2026. Those figures indicate a meaningful growth market, but they are private-source estimates rather than a separately reported Apple segment.
For buyers, India’s growth explains Apple’s expanding stores, online support and upgrade tools, not a guarantee that an iPhone offers the lowest cost per feature. Compare the official price, trade-in valuation, financing cost, insurance terms and expected ownership period before purchasing.
