OANDA appointed David Grant as its Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific on December 3, 2019. The role was based in Singapore and covered the company’s administrative and operational functions across the region.
This was a historical appointment, not a current 2026 hiring announcement. OANDA’s present leadership materials do not list Grant in the role.

In its December 3, 2019 press release, OANDA said David Grant had joined the company as Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific.
Grant was to work from Singapore and oversee OANDA’s administrative and operational functions in the Asia-Pacific region. The company said his remit included helping improve the overall efficiency of the business.

Grant’s background
Before joining OANDA, Grant was APAC Chief Operating Officer at Gain Capital. OANDA said he had more than 20 years of experience in electronic trading.
His earlier positions included chief executive of the Singapore offices of City Index and OptionsXpress. His career also included roles at Goldman Sachs and E*Trade. That background gave him experience across trading, brokerage operations and management—areas directly connected to the responsibilities OANDA described for the new role.
Part of a wider management reshuffle
Grant’s appointment formed part of a broader leadership change at OANDA in late 2019. The company said:

- Lucian Lauerman was appointed Head of Solutions for Business. That is the spelling used in OANDA’s 2019 release; OANDA’s current leadership page uses the spelling “Lucian Laureman.”
- Both executives reported to Kurt vom Scheidt.
- Vom Scheidt had taken on an expanded role as OANDA’s global Chief Operating Officer.
That structure is important because Grant’s title was regional. He was not appointed OANDA’s global COO. The announcement distinguished his Asia-Pacific operating role from vom Scheidt’s company-wide position.
Contemporaneous reporting from Finance Magnates also placed the appointment shortly after the departure of OANDA’s then-Asia-Pacific CEO, Kazuaki Takabatake. That timing was reported by the publication and was not stated in OANDA’s appointment release.
Why the appointment mattered to customers
A COO generally focuses on how a company’s business operates rather than setting retail trading strategy or acting as the public face of the company. At an online broker, operational leadership can affect areas such as account administration, internal processes, service delivery and the coordination of regional teams.

OANDA’s announcement did not promise specific changes to spreads, commissions, platforms, leverage, execution or account terms. Customers therefore should not interpret the appointment as evidence of a change to any particular product or pricing policy.
The stated objective was broader: use Grant’s experience in electronic trading, operations and management to support efficiency and OANDA’s growth in Asia Pacific. Any practical effect on a customer’s account would depend on later business or product announcements.
Is David Grant still OANDA’s Asia-Pacific COO?
OANDA’s current leadership page does not list David Grant. It identifies Philip Waters as Managing Director, Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets, and describes Waters as heading OANDA’s Asia-Pacific and emerging-markets business.

The same page lists Kurt vom Scheidt as OANDA’s global Chief Operating Officer, with responsibility for trading, product management, financial risk, business operations and FX Data Services.
OANDA’s current corporate materials also identify Otakar Šuffner and Marek Vašíček as co-CEOs. The company’s regulatory disclosures say that FTMO completed its acquisition of OANDA from CVC in December 2025.
These current details do not change the historical record: Grant was appointed Asia-Pacific COO in 2019. They do mean that reports presenting him as OANDA’s current regional COO would be outdated.
