LegacyFX is not a broker I would treat as a safe, mainstream choice. The brand has been associated with offshore forex and CFD services rather than a major UK-regulated investment firm. That does not, by itself, prove that every LegacyFX customer has been scammed. It does mean that the legal entity behind your account, the regulator supervising it and the compensation available to you matter far more than the brand name.
For UK investors, the practical verdict is cautious: avoid depositing money unless you can independently verify the exact LegacyFX entity and its current authorisation on the FCA Register. A website, trading platform, professional-looking account manager or claimed licence is not sufficient evidence that the broker is legitimate.
What is LegacyFX?
LegacyFX presents itself as an online broker offering leveraged products such as forex and contracts for difference. Depending on the account and jurisdiction, the platform may advertise currency pairs, commodities, indices, shares or cryptocurrencies.
These are speculative products. With a CFD or leveraged forex trade, you normally do not own the underlying asset. You are taking a position on price movements, and leverage can magnify both gains and losses. The broker’s legal status is therefore only one part of the risk; the product itself can be unsuitable for most retail investors.

The important question is not simply whether “LegacyFX” exists. It is:
- Which legal company will hold your money?
- Which regulator authorised that company?
- Does the authorisation cover retail forex and CFD trading?
- Does it cover customers resident in the UK?
- What happens if the firm becomes insolvent or refuses a withdrawal?
Is LegacyFX authorised in the UK?
Do not assume that an overseas registration makes LegacyFX FCA-authorised. A broker can have a company registration or financial-services licence in an offshore jurisdiction without having permission to market regulated investments to UK retail customers.
Before opening an account, search the FCA Financial Services Register yourself. Use the firm’s legal name and not just “LegacyFX”. Check that:
- the firm’s status is Authorised, not merely registered or an appointed representative;
- the website domain, telephone number and address match the FCA entry;
- the permissions include the products being offered;
- the firm is permitted to deal with retail clients;
- the warning list does not contain the firm, domain or a closely matching clone.
Use the address entered manually at register.fca.org.uk. Do not rely on a link sent by a salesperson. Clone firms can copy a genuine firm’s name, registration number, address and branding while replacing the contact details with their own.

Why LegacyFX may be described as a scam
Online complaints about brokers commonly involve the same pattern: aggressive sales calls, promises of unusually high returns, pressure to deposit more, a sudden request for tax or “verification” money, and difficulty withdrawing funds. A complaint is not proof of fraud, but repeated reports of this type deserve serious attention.
Be particularly cautious if someone claiming to represent LegacyFX:
- contacts you unexpectedly after you searched for investments;
- offers a personal account manager or “expert” who promises profits;
- claims your account is guaranteed against losses;
- asks you to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer or another remote-access tool;
- requests payment in cryptocurrency, gift cards or to an unrelated bank account;
- asks for your online-banking password, card PIN or one-time passcode;
- requires a further deposit before releasing your existing balance;
- offers to recover money from an earlier investment scam for an upfront fee.
A legitimate broker may ask for identity and source-of-funds documents. It should not need your banking password or remote control of your computer. A demand for more money to release a withdrawal is one of the clearest warning signs of an investment scam.
Can you trust the trading platform?
A broker using MetaTrader or another familiar trading interface is not automatically trustworthy. Trading software shows how orders are presented; it does not prove who owns the broker, where client money is held or whether withdrawals will be honoured.
Some firms also display account profits that cannot be withdrawn. A growing balance on a dashboard is not evidence that the money exists in a segregated bank account. The only meaningful test is whether a small withdrawal reaches your own bank account without an additional deposit or invented charge.

Do not confuse a successful trade with a successful withdrawal. A broker can show profitable positions while still creating problems when a customer asks for money back.
Fees and trading conditions to check
LegacyFX’s advertised spreads, leverage and bonuses should not be assessed in isolation. Read the account agreement and the complete fee schedule before paying anything. Look for:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

| Item | What to check |
|---|---|
| Spread | Whether the quoted spread is fixed, variable or widened during volatile markets |
| Commission | Whether commission is charged per side or on the whole transaction |
| Swap or overnight financing | The daily cost of keeping leveraged positions open |
| Withdrawal fee | The amount, currency and circumstances in which it applies |
| Inactivity fee | When it starts and whether it can consume a dormant balance |
| Minimum deposit | Whether a salesperson quotes a different figure from the published terms |
| Negative-balance protection | Whether it applies to your jurisdiction and account type |
| Bonuses | Any turnover requirement that prevents withdrawal of your own funds |
High leverage can make a small price movement produce a large loss. A broker offering leverage that would not be available to UK retail clients may be operating outside the UK regulatory framework. That is not an advantage if it removes important safeguards.
How to check LegacyFX before depositing
- Find the contracting entity. Look in the footer, account-opening documents and terms for the full company name, registration number and country.
- Check the regulator directly. Search the regulator’s own register, not a screenshot or certificate supplied by the broker.
- Match every detail. Compare the domain, email address, phone number and legal address with the register.
- Check the UK warning list. Search the FCA site for both “LegacyFX” and the legal entity name.
- Read withdrawal terms first. Search the agreement for “withdrawal”, “bonus”, “charge”, “margin” and “dormant”.
- Confirm the payment recipient. The bank account should be in the regulated company’s name. Be wary of personal accounts, unrelated companies and cryptocurrency wallets.
- Test support without depositing. Ask who regulates the account, where funds are held and what compensation applies. Require clear written answers.
- Never let a salesperson rush you. A genuine investment opportunity does not become unavailable because you take a day to verify it.
What protection would you have?
If a UK-authorised investment firm fails, eligible customers may have access to protections such as client-money rules, the Financial Ombudsman Service and FSCS compensation, subject to the relevant rules and limits. Those protections are not a guarantee against investment losses.
If you deal with an offshore or unauthorised LegacyFX entity, the position can be very different. Client-money segregation may be weaker or difficult to enforce from the UK. A local compensation scheme may not cover you. Even if you win a legal claim, enforcing it against a company in another jurisdiction can be expensive and slow.

Protection also does not cover a bad trade. If the value of a forex or CFD position falls, regulation does not reimburse the loss. Compensation generally concerns a firm’s failure or misconduct where the applicable scheme’s conditions are met.
What to do if LegacyFX will not let you withdraw
Stop sending money. Do not pay a supposed tax, clearance charge, insurance premium or account-upgrade fee to unlock a withdrawal.
- Save account statements, emails, chat messages, invoices, wallet addresses and screenshots.
- Ask for the withdrawal decision and the relevant contractual clause in writing.
- Contact your bank or card provider immediately and explain that you may be the victim of an investment scam.
- For card payments, ask about a chargeback. For bank transfers, request a fraud recall; success is not guaranteed, but speed matters.
- Report the matter to Action Fraud in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, or the relevant police reporting service in your jurisdiction.
- Report the firm or contact to the FCA if it targeted UK residents.
- Be wary of “recovery agents” who contact you afterwards. They often target people whose details have already been shared with scammers.
Advantages and disadvantages
| Potential advantage | Corresponding risk |
|---|---|
| Access to leveraged forex and CFD markets | Leverage can produce rapid losses and margin calls |
| Online trading software | Software availability does not prove regulatory status |
| Potentially flexible account terms | Offshore terms may provide fewer consumer protections |
| Account-manager support | Unsolicited sales calls and profit promises are major red flags |
| Low advertised entry deposit | A small first deposit can lead to pressure for increasingly large payments |
LegacyFX verdict
LegacyFX should be treated as high risk, not as a verified UK broker. I would not recommend it to a UK retail investor unless the exact entity is currently listed as authorised by the FCA for the service being offered and all details match independently.
This is different from saying that every person who has used the brand has been defrauded. The issue is that an offshore or unclear regulatory structure leaves customers with fewer practical remedies. The burden is on the broker to demonstrate authorisation, transparent ownership, credible custody arrangements and a workable complaints process.
FAQ
Is LegacyFX a scam?
There is not enough basis to label every LegacyFX-branded service a proven scam, but the broker should be treated with caution. Its regulatory status and contracting entity must be verified directly, especially if you are in the UK. Do not deposit until those checks are complete.

Is LegacyFX regulated by the FCA?
Do not assume so. Search the FCA Financial Services Register for the exact legal entity, website and permissions. An overseas licence, company registration or claimed registration number is not the same as FCA authorisation.
Can I get my money back from LegacyFX?
If a withdrawal is blocked, stop paying further fees and contact your bank or card provider immediately. Ask about a chargeback or fraud recall, preserve evidence and report the matter to Action Fraud and the FCA where appropriate. Recovery is not guaranteed.
Does MetaTrader prove that LegacyFX is legitimate?
No. MetaTrader is trading software and can be offered by different firms. It does not establish that the broker is authorised, that your funds are segregated or that withdrawals will be processed.
What is the safest alternative to an offshore forex broker?
Use a broker authorised for your country, verify it on the regulator’s own register and check the applicable complaints and compensation arrangements. For UK investors, that normally means checking the FCA Register before opening the account.
The Bottom Line
Verdict: avoid LegacyFX unless its exact legal entity and current UK authorisation can be independently verified. The main concern is not the existence of a trading website; it is the possibility of dealing with an offshore, unauthorised or impersonated entity with limited access to UK protections. Never pay an extra fee to release a withdrawal, and never give a supposed broker remote access to your device or online-banking credentials.
