Use several layers rather than relying on one setting: restrict or remove betting apps, block gambling sites on your devices, register with the official self-exclusion service for your location, and ask your bank whether it can block gambling payments. Each layer has limits, but together they can make gambling harder to access when you are trying to stop.
Choose the barriers that match where you gamble
Phone controls can restrict specific apps or website addresses, while gambling-specific blocking software is designed to cover gambling sites and services across supported devices. Self-exclusion applies through participating gambling businesses in a particular jurisdiction; bank blocks may restrict certain payments. These are different controls, not interchangeable guarantees.

Restrict betting apps and websites on your phone
iPhone: use Screen Time
Apple’s documented iPhone route lets you restrict named sites and manage app-related features. To block specific gambling website addresses:
- Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions and turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions if needed.
- Open App Store, Media, Web, & Games > Web Content.
- Select Limit Adult Websites, then add each site under Never Allow.
This is an address-by-address approach, not a gambling-specific filter. Add the actual sites you use, including relevant variations, and review the list if you encounter another address. Apple also documents Allowed Apps & Features for restricting certain built-in features; it does not replace blocking third-party betting apps or sites. Menus can differ across Apple devices and software versions, so these directions are specifically for iPhone.

For extra friction, you could ask someone you trust to hold the Screen Time passcode. That is a practical arrangement, not a guarantee that the restriction cannot be changed or bypassed.
Android: block installed apps, but do not mistake the web filter for a gambling blocker
Google’s Android device controls can set app limits or block a selected installed app. Use the device’s parental-controls settings to select the app you want blocked; exact screens can vary by device and Android version. Google’s web filters address explicit sites and search results, not gambling specifically, and work only in specified Google apps, Chrome, Android System WebView, and other apps that integrate the feature. Google cautions that explicit content may still appear in other apps, devices, or browsers.

Family Link is for supervised child accounts, not an adult’s self-blocking setup. A parent can manage certain apps, screen time, and content, but eligibility and features vary, and some apps needed for supervision or the device cannot be blocked.
Consider gambling-specific blocking software
The UK Gambling Commission distinguishes gambling-specific software, intended to block gambling websites, from general blocking software that can restrict broader categories or permissions. The Commission names GamBan as an example. A Michigan Gaming Control Board announcement dated 23 April 2026 describes Gamban as blocking gambling websites and applications on Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. These are regulator descriptions, not independently validated comparative results, and device support and service terms can change.

The Michigan announcement offered Michigan residents free Gamban licenses for one to five years and said the offer covered unlimited household devices. Those terms are specific to that state and announcement; check the regulator or provider for current availability and eligibility before relying on them.
Use the official self-exclusion scheme for your location
Self-exclusion is an agreement with gambling businesses to prevent access under a formal scheme. The UK Gambling Commission describes it as “a tool used by those who have recognised that their gambling is harmful to them.” Find the scheme that applies where you live and check which operators and gambling settings it covers.

Great Britain: GAMSTOP and separate land-based schemes
In Great Britain, GAMSTOP lets a person self-exclude from online gambling websites and apps operated by businesses licensed in Great Britain with one request. The UK Gambling Commission says gambling businesses must take reasonable steps to prevent access for people who self-exclude. GAMSTOP’s scope is online operators covered by the scheme; it is not a universal block on all gambling. The Commission lists separate schemes for land-based betting shops, casinos, bingo premises, and adult gaming centres in its overview of free multi-operator and national self-exclusion schemes.
Australia: BetStop
BetStop is Australia’s National Self-Exclusion Register for licensed online and phone wagering providers. Its service pages say registration takes about five minutes, requires identity details, and is free. The minimum exclusion period is three months, and a registrant can nominate up to five support people. While registered, providers should not open new wagering accounts, accept bets, or send marketing; existing accounts should be closed and credit refunded. The person must decide to register—someone else cannot register on their behalf.

Add a bank gambling-payment block if your bank offers one
Ask your bank whether it offers a gambling transaction block, how to activate it, and which payments it covers. The feature’s availability and operation vary, so do not assume it blocks every payment route or applies to every merchant. A bank block is an additional barrier alongside device restrictions and self-exclusion, not a substitute for either.
Make the setup harder to undo
Once you have chosen the relevant controls, add friction deliberately: remove betting apps, restrict easy downloads where your device allows it, enter known gambling URLs in the block list, and ask a trusted person to help you keep account or device changes from being impulsive. Where a formal exclusion service is available, complete its own registration rather than relying only on a phone setting. No setting described here is established as impossible to bypass, and the sources do not provide a validated success rate for gambling blockers.
