There is no confirmed Samsung commitment in the available sources to begin 1nm mass production in 2026. The date came from a May 2024 report by TrendForce, which attributed the claim to Business Korea. Samsung’s official roadmap at the time instead placed its distinct SF1.4 process in 2027; later secondary reporting put SF1.4 in 2029 and 1nm-class production around 2030.
Where the 2026 date came from
On May 29, 2024, TrendForce reported that Samsung might move its 1nm mass-production schedule forward by a year, from 2027 to 2026. TrendForce attributed the claim to Business Korea. This is a media-reported plan, not an official Samsung confirmation of a 2026 production date: TrendForce’s May 29, 2024 report.
The distinction matters because a target date is not evidence that production started, and the sources available here do not establish a completed Samsung 1nm mass-production milestone.
How the 1nm claim differs from Samsung’s SF1.4 roadmap
Samsung’s official materials used the designation SF1.4 for its 1.4nm-class process. That is a separate roadmap milestone from the 1nm-class process described in the 2024 report; the names and dates should not be treated as interchangeable.

- 2022: Samsung announced a foundry roadmap extending to 1.4nm in 2027. Samsung’s 2022 announcement.
- 2023: Samsung said SF1.4 mass production would begin in 2027 as planned. The same roadmap placed SF2 mobile production in 2025, high-performance computing in 2026, and automotive in 2027. Samsung’s 2023 roadmap statement.
- June 2024: Newspim’s coverage of the public roadmap said Samsung retained a 2027 target for 1.4nm. That is context for SF1.4, not confirmation of the separate 1nm acceleration report. Newspim’s June 2024 coverage.
In other words, Samsung’s official 2027 SF1.4 target neither verifies nor disproves the reported 1nm move to 2026. It describes a different node designation.
What later roadmap reporting says
In August 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported a revised Samsung roadmap that placed SF1.4 in 2029 and 1nm-class timing around 2030. Those dates are later reported targets, not proof that either process has entered mass production. The account is secondary reporting rather than an official Samsung announcement: Tom’s Hardware’s August 2026 report.

What a “1nm” schedule does—and does not—tell you
Here, “1nm” is a process-node roadmap label. It should not be read as a literal measurement of every transistor feature, or as a standalone guarantee of chip speed, power use, yield, cost, customer demand, or commercial success. The sources provide schedule claims, not measurements or production results.
For readers tracking Samsung’s foundry progress, the useful questions are which process designation a date refers to, whether the date comes from Samsung or a media report, and whether it describes a target or production that has actually begun. On those terms, the 2026 1nm date remains an attributed 2024 report; later coverage describes a substantially later prospective schedule.
